The chewer X-mas CD swap of 2007

Thread Starter
This was brought up in the other swap thread, but I don't think most people have noticed it. If you want to be involved, post here. If you want to be in charge, say so, because I don't feel comfortable being in charge of things. I just wanted to get it started.
It should be called the Holiday Gift Exchange - we're not all Christians. And it's not even Thanksgiving yet. Why are we organizing this so early? Dang!

And yes, I want in!
Given how long it took last time I think any later and we wouldn't get the CDs until January or later.

Also, I'm in.
So, wait... is it a swap of Christmas-themed mix CDs or a mix CD exchange timed to coincide with the holidays? Inquiring minds want to know.
I'm in, and I do not want to be in charge. NOT IT

I don't think this is a gift exchange, this is just a CD swap.

And I'm in.

I suspect it's just a usual trade that happens to take place around the holidays. Otherwise, there'd be a glut of Christmas-themed CDs that looked remarkably similar. Christmas mixes are fun, but they're so limiting if you're making them for someone other than yourself. Everyone has "Fairytale of New York" by now, right?

A Ha!!! But do they have Kate Bush singing "December Will Be Magic Again?"
Either way, count me in, but NOT IT.

I was referring to the X-mas of Futurama, where a robot santa tries to kill you. All songs must be robot santa related.
I'm in, but sadly don't think I'll have the time to organize.

My only request is that the people who got screwed last time need to post who their deadbeat partner was, so whoever does end up in charge keeps them out of the mix.
Also if no one else wants to, I'll try and organise things.

No, and they might not have King Diamond's "No Presents for X-Mas" (though they should), either, but, given the way Christmas mixes tend to go these days, there'll be lots of standards; lots of hip, new artists covering classic Christmas songs; and lots of Sufjan Stevens. Not bad things on their own, mind you, but so repetitive.
I'm in. I already started working on one for my IRL friends. It's seven discs, though...so I'm pretty sure that's against the rules. Whatever. I'm doing what I do best here, people. Someones going to be drowning in my music by years end.

Also, it's got a pretty killer theme and I'm almost halfway done.

I'm not sure how that's a relevant point because I doubt anyone in this thread is Christian. And you also don't have to be Christian to celebrate Christmas. I think most of the the people you have ever met in your entire life would tell you that.

Anywho, I guess I'm in on this. Whatever.
As stated in the previous thread: "I'm in."
I'm glad this is finally picking up steam. As I mentioned in the other thread, I'm in too. No, it isn't too early to start organizing this ASAP. And I'd like to restate my earlier comment that if you think you can't hold up your end of the deal, please don't sign up. I wish I could help lead this thing, but I've been living at the hospital with my sick daughter, so I don't think I'll have the time to take charge.

About the Christian thing, I was raised one. I don't go to church and I don't practice religion outside of my own mind. Which basically just comes down to keeping faith rather than not. It's not mine or anyone else's place to tell you what you can and can not celebrate, but if you do Christmas, at least recognize that it's about more than just how much new stuff you get. And by the way, there is no such thing as "Xmas".

Oops. I was rushing between classes when I posted and didn't notice this was in the music forum. I'm still in!

I think it's pretty messed up that Christmas has been so co-opted by mass consumerism that people think it should be stripped of its religious meaning. But even so, why call it an X-mas exchange? Just call it another CD swap.

It also says "CD SWAP" in the title.
Again, I was rushed. All I saw was "X-mas" and assumed it was the annual Chewer gift exchange. When you assume... yada yada.
I'm in.

If Spike needs any help, I can oblige, and if anyone doesn't get discs this time around, I can send out some extras.
I'll do it. I've already been making mental notes.

And by "do it", I mean the CD swap, not taking charge. I'm not that industrious.
Okay, I guess I'll put my facist dictator cap on. Facism and Eugenics aside the Nazi's sure knew how to design a good hat.

Anyways, I was thinking maybe have the sign up period close next Friday. Which gives people a fortnight to sign up and then a month to get the CD together and posted before Non-Denominational Holiday During The Winter Period.

So

Sign Up Deadline is the 16th November 2007

Plan sounds good, Spike. Thanks for taking the Lumbergh position.
I'm in. Put me with DaveB. I have an awesomely eclectic mix he'll love. Have you guys heard of this band Arcade Fires? I bet he'll like them.

It's THE Arcade Fires. And I heard they don't hold up live unless they have someone like the Boss backing them up...

Give me DaveB. He'll get nothing but various side projects from Spencer Krug!

Thanks, Spike, for organizing.
If I were Spike, I'd probably keep DaveB all to myself and let the guys who let someone else do the work eat it.

I say this out of love.
I'm in like Donkey Kong.

...Wait. I don't think that's right.
I'm in. I'm hoping I don't get shafted this time.
Dave, since you are already being fought over, I'd like to work out a trade with you on the side sometime later. I think it would work out well. But hey, I was reading through how some of the past Chewer swaps turned out and I'd love to exchange with your MissZooey if she's up for it. Mind asking her for me?

On my MySpace page, I've listed most of the artists/bands that I listen to regulary. It'd be cool for whoever I end up with to cook me up a mix of old and new stuff not mentioned on my page.

I'm pretty sure Spike handles the pairings randomly, Ryan, so you never know...
If they are random, I'd like to add that I don't want to be paired with The LD, since me and him share enough music as it is in our daily lives. Also b/c he sucks. More for the first reason, though.

I assume we'll have some sort of say on this sort of thing, since, if MissZooey signs up, it wouldn't make any sense for me to trade with her. Also, I figure having previously traded with someone is probably grounds for switching trading partners.

I agree. You're the suckiest suck that ever sucked.

Yeah, I guess I'm in, then. Hopefully my computer will be done being repaired by then.

Put me in too, please. I don't remember who my trading partner was from first time around, but I don't think they're on the boards anymore.

Bump (and grind) to remind everyone to sign up before the deadline.
Okay, I'm in. But a couple of things -

1 - I was Justin's partner last time. While I enjoyed what I received from him and will continue to celebrate his Happy Noodle Boy avatar every chance I get, I'd appreciate getting someone else.

2 - I know you're all just using me to get to DaveB's CD collection. Don't be coy. It makes me feel even dirtier than I already do.

Cool. Skimming through the original swap thread, I noticed the last comp you made looked really good. So did Diva's and several others. I don't know how the pairing up is going to work, but it's nice to see people with good taste in music signing up.

I'm in.
Oh, no, your CD got here, and was awesome. I'd be glad to get more.

Should we try to make this a sticky just until the end of the year?

I should be on there too, Spike. There are two Ryan (last initials) on the board.

Thanks!
