Military's porn ban questioned

Thread Starter
From today's USA Today:

WASHINGTON — Ten years after Congress banned sales of sexually explicit material on military bases, the Pentagon is under fire for continuing to sell adult fare, such as Penthouse and Playmates In Bed, that it doesn't consider explicit enough to pull from its stores.
Dozens of religious and anti-pornography groups have complained to Congress and Defense Secretary Robert Gates that a Pentagon board set up to review magazines and films is allowing sales of material that Congress intended to ban.

"They're saying 'we're not selling stuff that's sexually explicit' … and we say it's pornography," says Donald Wildmon, head of the American Family Association, a Christian anti-pornography group. A letter-writing campaign launched Friday by opponents of the policy aims to convince Congress to "get the Pentagon to obey the law," he adds.

This is a stupid law and I'm glad the Pentagon's blowing it off.

I see what you did there.

Yeesh. Seems like the least you can do for someone you can send into a war zone is let them have a wank now and then.

Besides if they ban Penthouse from military bases how can anyone ever believe their military-themed Forum letters ever again? When is enough enough, Wildmon?!

When an association has "family" in its name, you can be sure it's about to ruin somebody's good time.

So long as this ban doesn't affect Reader's Digest, I'm fine with it. I need my "Humor in Uniform."

As am I. And if that pencildick group thinks Penthouse is pornography, they need to see the shit my sailors always managed to pick up in every other f**king country we pulled into.

Suck it demagogues. Where is my Cheri?

Anyway, Donald Wildmon - guy has a great last name and this is his legacy?

You fools, now it's just a matter of time until we have Arabic animal incest DVDs at the checkout counter! Think of the child-like soldiers!!

Wildmon and his posse have been doing this shit for years - they used to bitch to the FCC about Howard Stern back in the day.

Shit, I'll buy subscriptions to the skin rags for the soldiers just on general principle, mostly to piss off Wildmon and his flock.

Only if you eat the scrambled eggs.

Donald Wildmon thinks the troops shouldn't have their girlie mags, he can strap on an M-16 and head into Baghdad to take them away himself. I'd like to see how long he lasts.

They should form a Congressional Blue Ribbon Committee on pornography. Watch the old men run to line up!

I think that it's time that somebody organizes a nationwide drive to buy subscriptions for the troops. If they aren't going to sell porn in the Exchange, we need to make sure that a copy of Swank is delivered to every platoon in every company everywhere! THIS WILL NOT STAND!

Insert Ted Kennedy joke here. Or Larry Craig. Your call.

Seriously though, what kind of sadist wants to take this away from the troops? I guess they must have it so good out there in the desert, thousands of miles away from their loved ones, that they don't need this kind of smut poisoning their minds. Argh.
