Look at my school's sack!

I know it's a couple of days late, but I'm still high on Navy's first victory over Notre Dame in my lifetime. Here's a video of one of the greatest sacks ever:

Dig it!

One of my close work friends is a ND grad, an ex-Navy pilot. He's got four kids, the oldest 16, and he's ten years older than me (born in 1964).

He was in the womb the last time his alma mater lost to mine (and Frank's).

My father also attended Navy, and he's RETIRED (mostly). He was a senior in high school when Roger the Dodger beat ND.

It was a pretty exciting game, and a very big deal for Navy.

That was a great play. I almost felt like I was watching REAL college football

It would have only been better had his name been Rudy.

We had a kid on our 10-year old team that was our star RB, and we decided to put him at LB to give another kid a breather one game. We were beating this team 36-0, so they pretty much were passing every down. On their last offensive play of the game, we blitzed everyone, and as their QB dropped back to pass, this kid came through the line, to the QB's blind side, and leaped (we likened it to a spider monkey) onto the QB just as he was getting ready to throw the ball and demolished the kid. It was remarkably similar to this sack.

Congrats, Frank -- that's a great, great win. And everybody was rooting for your guys!

Also, "Ram" is a cool fucking name for a football player.

Good on Navy.

What does that make ND's record, like 0-10000000 or something?

Is the coach Bill Belichick? Blitzing like that with 10 year olds up by that much is poor sportsmanship. Way to teach the kids early.

And what's up with Charlie not going for the FG? So much for improving in the coaching deparment after Ty.

Play every down like it's the last one you'll ever play. Don't ever let up. Give 100%, 100% of the time. These are pretty basic tenets of football, no matter what age. Blitzing or not doesn't really matter. We had gotten to their QB zero times in that game, and that was the first and only sack. Coaching kids to half-ass it because you're winning by a large margin is poor coaching and tends to get players hurt. The other team isn't taking a knee every play, so why should my kids go at half-speed? There is a "mercy" rule that goes in effect when a team is up by 28 points or more, and that involves changing your entire offensive backfield, which was done. There are no such rules for defense. As I said, the LB had only practiced that week at LB and had never played the position before so we were trying to give him experience. He couldn't play on offense anymore because we were so far ahead, so this was the only way he could get on the field in the 2nd half.

Don't rush to judgment based on one play in a 40-minute game.

"You will give 110%"

"That’s impossible. No one can give more than one hundred percent. By definition, that is the most anyone can give."

Was just thinking that myself, tc.

That's a good speech to give actually, for a moment, I thought it was from a movie!

That play reminded me of this.

A lot of football fans care. I was having someone send updates to my phone when I was at the Bama-LSU game Saturday, and when I got the final score, I yelled it out for everyone to hear (it was a timeout, so the crowd was relatively quiet), and there were some cheers. And then a few minutes later the PA announcer said the score (which was the only score they announced the entire game) and a nice little roar could be heard.

It's probably true that casual fans don't care, but I know there are lot of people who have been watching college football for a lot of years who thought it was important, and there are a shit ton of folks who hate Notre Dame who simply wallowed in ND's embarassment over the loss.

You'll believe a linebacker can fly...and here I thought it was the Air Force that attacked from above, Frank
