DETROIT - Two thrill-seeking teenagers stabbed an adult acquaintance, took a blowtorch to his corpse and threw his severed head into a river, overworked Detroit prosecutor Kym Worthy said Monday.

Canton High School senior Jean Pierre Orlewicz, 17, and Alexander James Letkemann, 18, ambushed 26-year-old Daniel Sorenson last Wednesday in a garage owned by Orlewicz's grandfather. A tarp had been spread on the floor, she said. "They lured him in the garage where they prepared a space to kill him," the prosecutor said at a news conference.

Sorenson, who had worked as a bouncer, was stabbed multiple times in the back, his head was sawed off and his body was wrapped in the tarp, authorities said. Orlewicz and Letkemann burned his hands and feet with a blowtorch, possibly in an effort to conceal his identity, a move probably unnecessary given the backlog of Detroit corpses who have not yet been identified, Worthy said.

"They made plans on how they were to clean up the blood," Worthy said. "They made plans on how they were going to dispose of the body, beyond the normal Detroit method of throwing it into one of the thousands of abandoned houses." The teens loaded Sorenson's torso in a pickup truck, dumped it in a cul-de-sac and set it on fire using gasoline. A utility crew found it Thursday morning, police said. Sorenson's head was found Saturday in the Rouge River.

Sorenson's history as one of the many registered sex offenders in the Detroit area, and the fact that he may have owed his attackers a small amount of money appear to have had nothing to do with his death, Worthy said.

"We've all seen a lot. We've seen it all," Worthy said of the case's investigators. "Still, a crime like this surprises us. Thankfully we've stopped them from continuing their surge of death. Anytime anyone kills just because they want to, and that's what the evidence seems to suggest here, is bone-chilling. Why anyone would want to do that, especially being 17 years old, it makes us think and ask a lot of questions about Detroit."
These guys have been watching too much Dexter. Only murderers deserve this kind of treatment, not mere sex offenders!

Is that article serious? It reads like something out of the Onion. And it even mentions a Surge of Death in relation to Detroit. I think our resident alcoholic sage is pulling our legs on this one.

Ugh. I read this story this morning.

You realize if this had happened 15 years ago Judas Priest would have been blamed. Wagers on who will get the blame now?

Especially when the "sex offense" was fucking a girl three years younger than him.

I'll have you know I no longer drink Monday through Thursday. I'm cutting back (although I've now become addicted to rare beer trading through beeradvocate. Ugh).

One must read the article with a discerning eye, though there's certainly more truth than fiction to it.

Wow, house hunting in Detroit must be quite the adventure.

Sounds like they watched Dexter.

I don't see where it tells how they got caught.

Holy shit does Detroit suck.

I always had to stop in the Detroit Airport on my way to and from law school. That place just sucks, DFW isn't even in Detroit proper. It's there I learned my favorite game: how much vodka can I drink in an hour?

I was implying that Death Surge had passed you some phony intel, but I should've been more specific. If the alcoholism thread is any indication, there are a shitload of thirsty souls on this board.

The best thing about that game is EVERYONE wins! Yay!

On the even of their sixteenth birthday, all American males should be forced to spend a week alone in the wilderness of Detroit, relying on only their wits and the public library for survival. It would be just like Canadians and Sudbury.

Once again, I blame Nuke addiction.

I say Neil Diamond. Not that I think he had anything to do with it, I'd just like to see him squirm a little. Truth of the matter is, it probably was Judas Priest. Oh yeah, and they did it that first time too. Ingenious fuckers, they are.

I've got $20 on the Saw franchise.

Since that bastard Ratty grabbed Saw, I'll go with violent video games.

Jack Thompson will blame a game that's not out yet before he finishes reading the headline.

Ray, if someone asks you to "stand over here on this tarp", you say NO.

These were a couple of kids out of the west side suburbs of Detroit (Westland and Plymouth, the latter being one of the more yup-scale areas of town). They apparently needed a third guy to help them transport the body, and he rolled over on them. Had these been actual Detroiters, everyone would have kept their mouth shut and got away with it. Rats don't live long in the inner city.

Interestingly, most of the local news outlets are describing the crime scene as "CSI" inspired, when it sure sounds like those kids had Showtime and watched "Dexter" every Sunday night to me. This is a good thing though, as I'd rather see "CSI" take the misguided parents who blame the media for their fucked up kids political hit on this instead.

Detroit sure sounds like a fun place.

I say we demolish the place and build Delta City over it.

Ummm... I blame shows like CSI personally. It's not as easy/fast as TV makes it out to be apparently. Scary, but true.

Well if the reporters don't know anything (And Probably don't), I'd say they'd go with the old standby Marlyn Manson despite his popularity being over 10 years ago. Although KMFDM has been named a couple of times also but it's a toss up.

I notice that Police Squad wasn't involved in this. Which is good as I run a tight ship around here.
