Opeth - The Roundhouse Tapes

Not sure how many of you folks are into these guys, but here goes.

New live album from my second favorite band. I'm usually quite reserved when it comes to live recordings, even when they're put out by bands I enjoy immensely, but I gotta say "The Roundhouse Tapes" is givin' my testicles goose-pimples. That means either I need to hit my doctor up for a Valtrex prescription or this album (double-live, actually) is makin' me feel like pullin' a Mortensen on a Bello - staircase and all. It's so hard to find live albums that fully capture the essence of what a band is and has been throughout their entire career, but "The Roundhouse Tapes" does it.

Highly fucking recommended for fans. Hopefully there's at least one or two around these parts...

I'm a big fan, but it seems redundant after seeing them live in early 06 and owning the live DVD. Their live versions are so close to the studio versions I don't feel the need to hear this.

That's their only album I listen to a lot, even though I have several others.

The only track from Orchid is "Under the Weeping Moon", however they do perform "The Night and Silent Water" from Morningrise as well. The only album not represented is Deliverance.

As for their live performance sounding like the studio recordings that's true, but for some reason this is hitting me harder than "Lamentation", the DVD release. Maybe it's because I haven't pulled these guys out in awhile, or because the last time I saw them live they put on a really sub-par show. I still recommend checking it out, even if you do own "Lamentation" and have seen them perform multiple times. If you do, let me know what you think.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll definitely look out for this.

Big fan here. I saw em the last time they came through here (SF Bay Area) and enjoyed their set and performance quite a bit.

I've got this. The sound quality of the songs is amazing; they almost sound as if they are directly from the albums, but there is enough difference to tell that it is definitely live. The crowd noise is a little subdued, but hell; it's Opeth...I don't expect Slayer-like crowds so it fits.

Great album from a great band; highly recommended.
