Goddammit. Goddammit. Time to go find my copy of Boys from Brazil and read it again. They take the good ones and leave us with people like Brett Ratner. Like fate is choosing all the good players for dodgeball.

Not a fitting tribute to the incredibly talented Ira Levin, but I just feel this is just more bad news. Always awful to read this sort of news.

Not that I haven't enjoyed a few of Levin's books, but the guy was 78. Ratner's in his thirties. This isn't exactly some bizarre twist of fate.

I think it's the principle of the thing he's railing against.

Yeah, he was greatness. I wait through a Levin phase in high school reading Rosemary, Brazil, Stepford and Sliver within a few months of each other. Good stuff.

Liked Deathtrap the movie. Would love to see the original play.

MAAAAN loved this guy.

until Sliver, I thought his stuff was so good that it was impossible to make a bad adaption out of it. RIP.

Did you see the remake of A Kiss Before Dying? Hardcore shit sandwich.

this guy was a hell of a writer. they disrespected the material so horribly when they made the nicole kidman stepford wives. I've always loved the original film adaptation of the book. that was my introduction to him oddly enough. it was only after being introduced to the stepford wives in college where I discovered rosemary's baby. it must be nice to leave behind something timeless when you die.

I've never read the book, but I remember the movie being pretty enjoyable pulp. Besides - Gregory Peck as Josef Mengele, Olivier as a Jewish nazi hunter, and young Steve Guttenberg! How could it not be worth watching?

I'm ashamed that I haven't read his books yet, but my fondness for Rosemary's Baby and Stepford Wives nontheless renders this depressing.

Ditto. I also confess to the supreme ignorance of not realizing he was the author of Boys and Stepford. Thanks for bringing nthese matters to my attention, Alex. I seriously think I'm going to buy and read all of these now, which I probably SHOULD have done years ago.
