Making clay masks

Thread Starter
I have a new little hobby. I've been trying out making masks with sculpey over a mesh wire frame. So far the results have just been so so; I just am trying to learn as I go.

Does anyone have any experience using clay products? Any hints or suggestions to achieve good results?

Super Sculpey works pretty good, you have to bake it afterwards to harden, and it does get pretty brittle.

Milliput is a two-part resin - you have to keep your fingers wet in order to work it, but it air drys after a few hours, and is fairly strong and durable.

I have heard good things about Apoxie Sculpt, though I've never tried it - similar to Miliput, but even stronger when it hardens. You could also hit your local Auto Parts store and get some two-part body resin on the cheap, plus some good acrylic primer and paint and spray it on your finished mask - looks great, and you don't have to worry about brushstrokes on the finish.
