'The Good German' Question

This was shot in the pre-widescreen full frame style, correct? Because my DVD says "formatted to fit your screen," but I can't seem to figure out if there's a widescreen edition out there. Is this true, or are Netflix once again being douchebags by not better noting which of their films are in full frame?

It's been awhile since I rented it, but I seem to remember mine being in widescreen.

I'm fairly certain that the only version is available is the full frame, "Casablanca" style aspect ratio. That's the DVD I rented. It would make sense gien that Soderbergh completely aped the movie. I would say that the "altered to fit your screen" line is either an error or just a very technical alteration, like full frame 1:33 or maybe 1:66. I'm pretty sure though that there's no 1:85 or 2:35 version.

From what I read, it was presented in theaters as a widescreen release, and then cropped for the DVD. Will try and look it up.

It's not fool proof, but the trailer isn't Academy ratio, which would suggest that the movie was kept in widescreen for theaters.

"The DVD release even presents the film in the outdated 4:3 aspect ratio that was normal for 1940s films, although the theatrical release used a modern widescreen ratio."
