Live Free or Die Hard DVD (Digital Copy)

Anybody see this?

They're trying out this new thing for the first time with the LFoDH disc (the 2-disc "[Unrated]" one) that's basically the option to download the movie to your PC or laptop which you can then view whenever you want without needing the disc. I don't know if you can only download it once (you need the number code written on the instructions) or if you can then burn it to a CD and pass it between machines, but I think it's a neat idea regardless.

What do you guys think? Would you like to see this used more in future movies or do you think it's unnecessary?

Knowing how paranoid the MPAA is about, well, everything, the chances of that software not installing some sort of bullshit spyware or a Sony-style rootkit you don't want are essentially zero. At best it's a DRM'd WMV file. I'd sooner throw my laptop in the dishwasher.

Just get some software than enables you to utilize your fair use rights to watch the movie that you payed for in the manner of your own choosing. I can't post a direct link because the laws in the US are kind of fucked up right now and it could cause legal troubles for CHUD - thank you, President Clinton. Use the Google.

Remember, stealing movies is a felony.

The info that I read said that the content is DRM-free. Once you input the code from the booklet, it's yours.

I'm gonna try it on my PS3 - either I'm gonna try to rip it to the console itself, or I'll put it on my computer and stream it over the network via WMP.

I like the idea - certainly would be nice for multi-room systems in the future - which is my industry right there.
