Angel: Season Six - After The Fall

Spoilers for the first issue.

It starts out just like they said it would have with Angel and Co. in Hell,. We get a ghostley Wes ala Lilah at the end of Season 4 and it appears Gunn's wounds healed and he is out fighting and didn't die. Also cool that Connor, Gwen, and the Werewolf girl have a role saving what humans are left.

It's got a Escape from LA vibe with different demons controlling different parts of LA. It takes place a few monts after the series end with promise of a flashback comic to the moments right after the battle in LA.

I'm not sure I get what/who the vamp at the end was. Was that a hell version of Angel or a random vamp? Or is it Gunn as I read by a few fans in a cuople of places?

And we get Spike in issue two. And for the cover of issue 3 issue 3 cover spoiler

And not of fan of the artwork so far. Really loved the first Buffy arc art but this stuff isn't near as good.

That was Vamp Gunn at the end of the issue, which I didn't realize until I read a blurb online.

I had the same problem with this that I have with many Joss Whedon related comics -- I had no idea what the hell was going on. The way that many Whedon comics are structured and written (though I know he didn't write this) makes it hard to follow the story. This is why the Brian Vaughan issues of the new Buffy comic are so much better than the original arc, at least in my opinion.

So yeah, I was very much not blown away by this. When you can't even tell you're looking at Vamp Gunn at the end, that's a problem.

Yeah, so I went to pick up my Buffy subscription (don't judge me!) and this was waiting along with it. Good show, Alakazam Comics. Good show. I didn't even know they were making it.

I didn't think realizing the vampire was Gunn was that hard to get.

First, he made that somewhat lewd comment to the slave girls when he "rescued" them.

Then, we see those same slave girls at the end being fed on by a black, bald vampire.

Seemed pretty straight forward to me.

I will agree, though, that the art is not the best, at least in terms of consistancy with character faces (and matching up to the actors... really? That is supposed to be Wesley?).

I thought it established the setting well, and had some good Whedon-esque quips and moments to keep things fun.

It was enough for me to keep reading.

Read the thing. Liked it and am once again interested in the world of Angel. I just couldn't stand the artwork. It made my eyes and head hurt. I could bare tell what was going on half the time.

Edit: When did Wesley join W&H? Am I missing something here? I'm guessing there's going to be a "# months back" storyline soon?

I didnt like the fact Angel has to use a parasite to heal himself.

When did this comic series come out? I ask because I used to collect Angel & Buffy comics.

About when this thread started (i.e., about a month ago).

Didn't care for this issue as much as the first. More "set-up-the-futurey" than anything else.

Still, it was nice to see Gunn in denial, and I wonder what Angel named his dragon. I'm guessing Cordelia.

Issue 3 has a killer last panel. Does it mean what I think it means?

Put in invisotext what you think. I'm going to have to reread his spoiler 2001 type fight with Illyria for clues.end

I thought Angel started out slow. Not knowing it was Gunn the vamp right away made me like the issue less but they made up for it.

And Spike as the new Hef is great.

They need to get this puppy on the same release schedule as Buffy season eight.

Really enjoyed issue three, though Angel the non-vampire really threw me for a loop (how exactly is he surviving these fights?)

Angel 5 just came out and the ending is a shocker. I'm not sure what it means but the answers will get delayed till atleast issue 7 as 6 deals with what happened after the Season 5 finale.

I know Buffy comes out the first week of the month. Does Angel come out the third week usually, because I have not been able to figure it out?

Anyone read the new Serenity book yet? They say it takes place between Season 1 and the movie ...

Issues 6, 7, and 8 are all 'First Night.' The main After the Fall arc picks up again in #9.

Good news, though, is that #6 hits on April 2 (same day as Buffy #13), while #7 comes out on the 16th, I believe. We'll get two ATF issues in one month.

It's out.

We get the stories of Spike, Connor, and Lorne. Spikes's was the best as we get to see that Illyria/Fred are a bit unstable in hell. May it be that Wolfram & Hart were able to save Fred's soul to be used against Angel at a later date?

I'm assuming the other storis are Angel, Gunn, and Wes with the possibility of Gwen and Nina to spread it out. Angel should have his own issue on First Night or I'll be a bit disappointed. Much explanation of the human thing.

Looks like they age saving Gunn and Angel for last. A few good tidbits hinted at this issue and we get Kate back. And given that I don't remember her from earlier issues I'm betting she dies soon.

And what's this with a Spike seperate series on First Night?

I have a question regarding Fred.

In the comics, they keep talking about Fred's soul. Where is she, will Wesley see her again, etc.

In season 5, though, I thought they made it abundantly and explicitly clear that Fred can no longer exist in any form. The ritual required to bring Ellyria into Fred's body completely consumed and destroyed every part of her (physical, mental, and spiritual).

Is this an error? Did they forget the finality with which she was dispatched in season 5? Or are we supposed to assume they were wrong?

I think the writers have forgotten, but, hey, it's Comictown. Nothing's permanent.

Unfortunately it cheapens her excrutiating death scene from season 5, and makes me less interested in reading the comic.

After the series ended, I remember reading that the plans for a 6th season would have introduced some wiggle room into the whole "Fred can't come back" thing.
