I can't believe Down With Love, Brewster's Millions, and Music & Lyrics are still on the board.

Since he hasn't made a movie in the range of years, it'd be impossible. Which makes The LD's joke even lamer than it already is.
I get in debates with my friends about whether Rushmore or Tenenbaums is better. For me Tenebaums always takes it. The cast is solid. Nuff said about that. But the story is so effective. It takes me on an emotional rollercoaster -going from hilariously funny to quite depressing to the heartwrenching reconciliation between Royale and Chas - and it never loses that effect. I can't say the same about Rushmore. I rewatched Tenenbaums the other day and still felt emotionally drained afterward. Not to mention the detail that went into every scene. I sometimes pause the DVD on Chas' closet to look at all the cool games in there. Also, every character is great and serves a purpose to the overall story. Pagoda, although having a "small" role, steals every scene he's in and is a personal fave ("There he goes!"). I'm not expressing the greatness of this film in purely technical terms because quite frankly I don't know all that much about filmmaking. But as a viewer, the end product comes to gether in such a way that I can only call it greatness.
Probably because of my age, I connect much more to Rushmore. Plus, I think it's even funnier than Tenenbaums. Too bad it doesn't qualify in this draft.
I need to see Tenenbaums again, as I only thought it "ok" on its initial release. I'm a huge Rushmore fan, and, at the time, this one just could not compete.

At the very least, ELEKTRA should last until the fifth round.
Estatic that I got what probably should have been a candidate to be taken first overall. Y'all slept on it!

And "Batman Begins"? There are three better eligible Chris Nolan films still on the board!
City of God was in my three possible first picks. Thanks for making the decision easier, Kabong.
Some good choices so far, guys. I have to say, other than Begins, which was an alternate, all the picks so far have matched my first round projections. Which gives me hope for the one movie I was pretty sure I would get at 27... but I'm not holding my breath.

I am really surprised about one film, that I was sure would go in the first four groups, and is still up on the board.

And as I type this- another correct guess. I had a feeling Andre would take In the Mood for Love. And you're lucky you did, because it would have been mine had you waited.
Great pick with City of God, was hoping it would stay alive...

Batman Begins is gone already??? Before Car 54 Where Are You???
Justin I hate everything inside you. That was ALMOST my #1.
Yeah, No Country for Old Men was a nice pick, but I was actually expecting 25th Hour from you. That's your flick.
Seriously, Andre, fuck you. I can't believe you took In The Mood For Love. That was one that I was SURE was safe.

25th Hour is greatness. I dunno if I'd go first round with it, since it's the kind of film that you'd think wouldn't be picked by round 2. Then again, Andre took In the Mood For Love, so there's all sorts of bastards lurking around here.

City of God is another great choice, nice going nabbing that one.
I'd always choose the best film available over one that's a personal favorite. In the Mood was pretty close to the best available at that choice. But that's the one blessing of going later, you don't have to worry as much about the ones you left behind.

Not anymore. Just like Matchstick's not my friend anymore.

Pow, pow, pow. Quick choices. And good ones.
Shit, my master list is starting to get whittled down. My other obvious choice will definitely go tomorrow. No need to hold my cards on this shit. One of you vultures is bound to pounce on it.
You'll never hear anything bad from me about that pick, Ratty. Leaves my shit still up on the board.

Well, who was going to pick Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life anyways?
Me and about 800 african orphans, Anderson.
City of God is the foreign film I expected to show up first; In The Mood For Love was the one I was hoping would be picked first. One right after the other, that was pretty cool.
My number one is still up on the board, as is my number 3.

How can you tell it apart from any other Will Farrell movie as he playes the same one in every comedy. Why not Blades of Glory or Talladega Nights instead? Any freak or geek can tell you there are better comedies out there.

25th Hour and City of God hurt bad. I was hoping 1 might slip by. Solid #1's

I have this problem too. I can't tell the difference between Trading Places and The Golden Child. They both have that one black guy!

I couldn't find the Sports Illustrated cover and I suck photoshop, still I wanted to see this abomination.

I was wondering how long it was going to take for a comedy to get picked. There's always talk of how comedies are overlooked come awards time, and glad to see it didn't happen here as well...

Awesome.
I LOVED Anchorman in theatres, but subsequent viewings on DVD have soured it to me.

Personally, I'd argue that Hot Fuzz is the funniest movie of the 21st century, but that's all senses of humor.
Sitting and watching you all pick great films, and Batman Begins, is upsetting as I am in the last group to pick. Will there be anything left for me? Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3D?

Not to mention any more titles, but that is one of about four of five others that I was pretty sure would get taken before Anchorman-- which was going to be, at best, a third round selection for me. But I like the changeup.

It's odd, by the way, that I had the exact opposite experience with Anchorman. It went from a comedy I liked to a comedy I really liked the more I watched it.

Ouch, you wound me so.

I just can't see how you can justify Anchorman as a top 12 film of the decade when there are atleast a half dozen better comedies and dozens upon dozens of better films. And Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang is one and far superior and another top pick taken.

If it was a 3rd round pick, no problem.

Same here. But, thanks for helping to whittle down the list.

I hadn't even thought of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (of course, I'm not participating, so that doesn't matter). Fucking great pick.
Kiss Kiss being gone really does hurt. But it does deserve to go early. Nice pick, Rath.

I will make that argument. I put Anchorman up with the best of Mel Brooks and the Zuckers. All the supporting players bring their "A" game, and, unlike some other very funny movies this decade, it's a tight 95 minutes with no fat on it.
Motorcycle Diaries hurt.

Kiss Kiss was in my second tier list. It was amazing at the time of release and I remember begging people to go see it in the theater so it could get a wider release, but I just don't respond to it the way I once did. That said, it's still much deserving to be on this list. Just not a priority to me anymore.

I can already see who I'll be battling with for picks. I have no urge to go for the typical geek sci-fi/fantasy films.

Edit: I don't get the Anchorman love. I thought it was funny, but greatest comedy of the past decade? I don't concur.

I'll have to add Motorcycle Diaries to Batman Begins on a re-watch list due to this draft. Didn't really like it when I saw it.
Have to agree with Kirby. Motorcycle Diaries seems, to me, a very simplistic movie with good performances. Didn't resonate with me. That said, I've only seen it once.

Yeah, my main goal was to grab either FOTR or ROTK. I've got a list of faves from the time period, but they're not ranked at all, they're just there more to remind me of what I have to choose from. And with this draft format, I get the feeling that list will be decimated by the time I pick again.
Of that little volley, only Kiss Kiss Bang Bang really stings.
I'm probably in the minority in that I like Kill Bill Volume I much more than Volume II. I think II suffers a bit like Death Proof in Tarantino falling too much in love with his dialogue. Those Carradine monologues near the end drain all the energy out of the flick; they go on way too long.

Are we gonna start a thread where we list our harem to be judged by?

Nobody picked the Spielberg. Damn you for ruining my hat trick.
Oh well, I expect it to get picked by Wednesday.

So, the new hat trick:

A Bird, A Coen Brothers and A Mann

Every year got hit. Very interesting. 2004 had the most with 4. 2006 had 3. 2000 and 2002 had 1 each.

I'll make the Your Lists thread.

I was interested in about half the movies chosen which isn't too bad. I'm still a bad boy and have not seen The Fountain, which is sort of ridiculous.
