They were actually kind of good in the 70s, before anyone knew who the hell they were.

Yet, he persisted with shitty hair.

I care so little about this that I'm going to post how little I care.

But - but who will play with Britney Fox and Enuff Z'Nuff at the Annual Henderson County Fair and Pig Roast (sponsored by Pete and Elda's, Rt. 45, off the Beltway) next summer?

Sad times, my friends. Sad times.

Dude has been bald for years. One of the worst wigs ever seen by man.

Great White's probably available. I hear they put on a pretty smokin' show. Or maybe Zebra. . .

If someone could put in a call to Japan, I bet we could get Loudness up in here.

"Rock n' Roll Crazy Nights". Indeed.

Holy shit. I was expecting an Onion story. That sucks. Then again, more hip to join the "died before their time" crowd than the "touring into their 60s" bunch. RIP.

Time to crank up the Metal Health.

Loudness did do a brief US tour early this year, and a 2008 tour is rumored.

M-Z-A!!!! I loved that song. I actually asked someone from Japan what "MZA" was supposed to mean, and she had no idea. Then I found this on Wikipedia a while back:

"It had the hit "Crazy Night", noted for the repeated chant of "MZA," which vocalist Minoru Niihara finally admitted in a series of 2006 interviews as being an improvised abbreviation that sounded good at the time."

I remember them having a modest hit with the Zeppelin-lite "Who's Behind the Door".

Quiet Riot just did a show near me in Ottumwa IA on Oct 19. They were with Vince Neal and Slaughter. I was going to go, but I didn't hear about it in time and only lousy seats were left. It would have been odd had I went, I saw Blind Melon perform about a month before Shannon Hoon died.

I remember that one but I thought this was the big hit.

Just checked, you're right, "Bears" was never a hit but "Who's Behind the Door" charted.

Won't last long though. 80's metal bands are kind of like LEGOS. One part snaps off and another snaps right back on. Look at a recent issue of Metal Edge, the guitar player from Winger (Reb Beach) has also played with Dokken, Whitesnake and other bands. They'll have a new lead singer from some other hair band replace Kevin and won't miss a beat....or a County Fair/tractor pull/Homecoming

Wait. . . Ottumwa Iowa REALLY EXISTS?! I'm more shocked by that than by this story. . . .

There used to be a public access show here in NJ called "Liquor Lipps" or something, with this skinny hair metal wannabe (Liquor Lipps, no lie, decked out in spandex, glittery make-up, and frosted blonde hair - horrifying)) doing MTV VJ wannabe interviews backstage at shows with bands like Quiet Riot, Dokken, Rainbow, etc. Local bands got coverage, too, but the best parts were his rants against grunge and heavier metal.

Dude's probably crying his eyes out right now, hugging a "Mental Health" album and rocking back and forth.

Well, Metal Health is what we all need, it's what you have to have...

I guess you're so touched you forgot his name. I still don't know why Kevin Dubrow died. I don't know why. I don't know why....

HOLY SHIT- this sounds like the best show in the world. I wish that cable access from years gone by was on youtube.

The show was a slice of fried gold. He used to get a bunch of early '90s Jersey girls (oh, how high their hair was) to do show bumpers between segments, often how much they dug Liquor Lipps.

His rants were the best though. He actually railed on the impact and music of Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam (the icky, messy, flannel and denim crowd) and said they couldn't hold a candle to bands like Cinderella, Poison, and Love and Rockets. It was funny as hell, but sad. The fucking denial that his genre of music wasn't hip any more was on the same level as that "Leave Britney Alone" yahoo.

You had to sift out a lot of the religious and community news shit, but the best, off-the-wall, stuff was on Public Access back in the day. Bar none.

How did Love and Rockets get on the same show as Cinderella and Poison?

There's plenty of that on the net, or at least there was in the 90s.

I asked the same question when I watched him do it. My guess then was he was reaching, trying to prove his point in his rant. "So Alive" was a big hit, and the singer had long hair, so...

You really had to see/hear it to believe it.

More than the actual story, I'm kinda bugged by CNN citing TMZ like AP or Reuters. I guess that's the feed you go to for your has-been semi-celebrity death updates. Though at least they did cite their online sources (allmusic? huh!), I suppose.

Sounds like it. I'm pretty sure somewhere Daniel Ash just got a migraine and has no idea why.

"Dude, we're Ratt!"

"I thought we was Quiet Riot!"
It's one hell of a drug.

Quote:
The death last month of Kevin DuBrow, lead singer for the 1980s heavy metal band QUIET RIOT, has been ruled an accidental cocaine overdose. Clark County coroner spokeswoman Samantha Charles confirmed the cause Monday after toxicology results were received Monday.
There was some suicide speculation. Maybe it wasn't a completely accidental overdose.
Their track stood out in the CRANK ost.

Yeah that's all I know about them. Good luck facing off against Lou in Hell, rock dude.
