Were there any questions about health care, energy policy, foreign policy, jobs, the value of the dollar, the price of oil, the housing market, etc.? How about Annapolis and the issue of Palestine?

As for the "plant" issue, I can imagine the uproar had this happened on the other side. I mean, 3 or 4 questions in a primary debate from people already supporting a candidate from the opposing party? And giving the Clinton supporter the floor for an almost 2-minute follow-up speech at a Republican primary debate isn't the most proper thing CNN has ever done. I can't imagine, for instance, that a 2-minute floor speech by a Giuliani supporter at a Democratic debate on how the Democrats want us to lose in Iraq would go over very well. But I don't see it as that big of a deal or evidence of CNN's duplicity. In fact, I agree with this:

Again, I think that the main problem with CNN's handling of the debate wasn't who they had asking the questions. It was that the questions as a whole didn't seem to hit the most important issues.
I'd agree with this. But I think that the Republicans almost don't want to really answer any questions of substance because they don't have any answers of substance.

Bottom line: ALL the televised debates need to be handled more professionally and less like an episode of American Idol.

I have no love for the mainstream political media. Although, I do like Olbermann.

This shit was so scripted and phony. The first exchange between Romney and Guiliani was painful. Huckabee doing his best work to be the least offensive person ever. CNN cutting off the first immigration question right before Ron Paul to get in a question to him about conspiracies and his wacky supporters.

Every single question was either cherry picked by the campaign to give a non answer, a setup to frame the candidate in a certain light, or a total fire bomb to start controversy.

CNN should be ashamed. They either got completely played by the powers that be, or have no interest in the progress of the United States.

I don't know. The LA Times and everyone else will breathe a sigh of relief scapegoating CNN, but I've watched all or part of most of the debates and they've all been swamp gas. Even when the questions seem to be about something, the answers are just incomprehensible surface jargon. Other than the occasional outbursts by Ron Paul and Kucinich, there's no there there.

I think it's a much more complex issue than "incompetence at CNN." It's the corporate infotainment age and a broken political system that renders both parties essentially operating on a level that has little to do with what they'll discuss publicly, and the corporate owned networks like things just fine that way. But the Dems definitely have the edge in being somewhat related to reality.

This incident really gets to the ugly truth of these "debates," which is that for the most part they're postage stamp-sized McStump Speeches.

"But the Dems definitely have the edge in being somewhat related to reality."

Republicans instigated civil rights. Or you gonna spin that too?

Horseshit. How long and how much can you tax someone, yt? When will they get tired and say fuck it? You playin hardball with someone elses money (as usual). Hell, I would love to say how my money was spent instead of you.

Having said that,

Fred mentioned oil. You saying you listened to the debate? The questions posed were panic/passionate buttons. More horseshit form CNN, Soros and MoveOn.get thefuckingon.com.
