Kokoro, a Sanrio Group company specializing in the design and manufacture of robots, unveiled its new Actroid DER2 feminine guide robot at Sanrio headquarters in Tokyo on October 4.

Actroid DER2 is an upgraded version of Kokoro’s previous fembot, Actroid DER, who has made quite a name for herself by providing services at a number of events, including the 2005 World Expo. Compared to the previous model, DER2 has thinner arms and a wider repertoire of expressions. The smoothness of her movement has also been improved, making it now even more likely for the uninitiated to confuse her with an actual human being.

Actroid’s limbs, torso and facial expressions are controlled by a system of actuators powered by pneumatic pressure. Once programmed, she is able to choreograph her motions and gestures with her voice.

Kokoro* intends to rent Actroid DER2 to companies and events. The basic rental fee is expected to be 400,000 yen (US$3,500) for 5 days, plus extra fees for technical support, delivery and choreography changes. For those who can’t cope with a sayonara after 5 days, there is a late fee of 80,000 yen per day.
Japanese scientists have finally overcome social boundaries and found a way to make real women obsolete. Perfect for bachelor parties or Everquest LAN parties.

Does bending her over in half into the "lawn chair position" count as transforming?

3500 for five days? not bad. but you know you gotta spring for tech support. I'd hate to be the service rep who answers the call that her bukkake program is not working right.

Mah Soo Rahh!

Why do they have her dressed like that? The shaking motion the robot makes each time after it stops moving is creepy. I'm telling you, Japanese robotic designers are trying to make Ghost In The Shell a reality. 20 years time and they'll have fully articulate robots that can move large distances on their own and be pretty interactive. It's just the power requirements that need to keep up so they operate longer.

Ok, I'm putting way too much thought into this. I'm going to bed.

More importantly, do you have get these dry-cleaned before they're returned?

Doc Happenin has made his match. Now it's his problem.

My kind of woman, Lisa: quiet, docile, Japanese and can kill me with one punch of her robot FISTS!

Point of order: I'm always alert for thong-wearing pretty women jumping over buildings.

If all this is true, I'm expecting the Pentagon to put the female population of the world on orange alert (High Risk of Tentacle Rape Attack) any day now.

That's one chatty broad.

Hopefully the DER2 isn't as much of a prude as Aiko, the Canadian fembot.

Seriously, what's the use in a fembot if you can't cop a feel every now and then? Someone in the comments there said it best:

The scary thing is if you just programmed it to flail about and cry out "No!" and "Rape!" you'd meet the needs of most potential buyers.

In unrelated news, also on the site: giant jellyfish!

Is there another use I'm not aware of?

On a related note, comments found elsewhere say this model can cry too.

Looking back at the thread title, I should've gone with Blade-Fucker or Dr. Noonien Soong: Or How I Learned to Stop Killing Tony Danza and Love the Actroid.

Manual labour, I'm a lazy cat.

Also, those giant jellyfish made me perform some urinification in my pants. Why must everything in the ocean be both giant and disgusting?

Huh. I don't know about anyone else, but I want to dry hump those giant jelly fish. It would be the ride of my life.

When I saw the giant jellyfish, my first thought was how much it would suck if you had to eat an entire one, in one sitting.

I'm sure there's a Japanese gameshow where that happens though.
