Straczynski thinks OMD sucks - Page 4

Hurts too much to even consider it.

I'm reading "Brand New Day," and though I was expecting to despise it, the arc honestly is making the best of a bad situation. It's not melancholy and humorless and completely out-of-character like JMS' run. If you look at it as one long "What If..." storyline -- which it will ultimately be when Marvel retcons this new take into oblivion in a year or so -- it's not a bad read at all.

Thanks, much. That is what I was going for.

Agreed.

I am shocked to admit it, but I actually like "Brand New Day" -- what I don't like is how they got there.

In looking at the promo art for Jeph Loeb and J. Scott Campbell"s Spider-man I can't help but wonder in all this OMD/BND stuff isn't just manufactured bullshit. Q's ranting about the marriage... the forced shittiness of OMD all of it just a manufactured contreversy... all of it basically a lie to drum up interest in Spider-man because they're waiting for Campbell's pages and it is taking YEARS. They need to hold the line until that stuff can come out so they can't do anything real... can't do anything that would conflict with what Loeb has written... so we get this What If bullshit.

A terrifying possibility if there ever was one. What the hell project is this anyway? I haven't heard of it. Sounds...lovely...

Dammit, just when I was finally used to the idea of not buying another Spider-Man comic, they have to announce one of my favorite writers ever (Joe Kelly) is doing a run.

Damn you, Marvel! Damn you to hell!

I was liking Brand New Day well enough (after initially feeling like it was a hokey pastiche of older stuff, I warmed to it) until this last Bob Gale-penned issue. What a mess of bad dialogue, worse captions, and lame plot that was. It read like it was written by 60's Stan Lee's drunk cousin.

Also, "Freak" is maybe the lamest, most generic villain of the last decade.

I still failed to see the decision to make Peter single by erasing Peter & MJ's memory of each other is a good idea. But then again, I haven't felt compelled to buy a Spider-man comic in a long time so I guess I'm old-school.

Oh right, that's why Rob Liefeld continues to get work.

Nevermind.
