Tragic day for horror lovers!

Fangoria BBS says the warehouse where they stored the back issues burned up and took the mags with it. Fangoria will have an announcement about it soon but already they took all but the last 5 issues off their web store.

So many interviews with Debra Hill... gone forever.

Now, no one will know how wicked The Creeper's going to look in the DTV sequel "Jeepers Creepers 3: Salva Finds a Little Friend"

I'm saddened, beyond words.

How many back issues is Fangoria selling on an annual basis? Dozens? A hundred?

Aren't they also having serious financial problems at the moment?
Well, you can still get'm while they're hot.

word from Fangoria

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
December 10: Fire destroys Fango back issue supply

Hell came to FANGORIA last Wednesday when a massive fire that swept through a warehouse in Oregon, IL destroyed our supply of back issues used to fulfill mail and on-line orders. Also consumed by the flames were copies of STARLOG, STAR TREK and our dozens of past movie tie-in magazines. As a result, we are unfortunately no longer able to process back-issue orders for any of our past titles—so collectors, hold onto the ones you’ve got! The photo above was provided by one of our FANGORIA bulletin board members, who is also one of 20 employees who escaped the building unharmed.

The blaze was set off when a forklift driver in the warehouse punctured a gas line close to a space heater, and required over 100 firefighters from 20 different departments to bring it under control. Hampering their efforts was the fact that the building’s sprinkler system has been turned off—which fire marshals are currently investigating. Total damages are estimated at $8 million; Fango thanks and salutes the firefighters and other responders who worked to put out the flames. —Michael Gingold

Have they checked with any of the rival magazines? Perhaps Starlog is involved?

I remember when a Fango fire would have been heartbreaking.

Yep. I lived Fangoria circa 1981-84 or so.

I feel bad for the guy who hit the gas line. He's gonna have a tough time getting hired on as a forklift operator at the other leading magazine storage facilities. Blacklisted from the industry!

The sprinklers were mysteriously turned off and Fangoria is having financial troubles? Insurance fraud!

Here's hoping EW or People hires him.

I'm a little sad. But mainly because they were BACK-issues.

Still a shame though.

I have a love/hate relationship with that mag. I was always mad that they spoiled the cool monster reveal on the cover. Gotta sell those mags somehow.

My packrat addictions were alleviated a bit when I switched from print to online news. I thank CHUD everyday for that.

Wait a second? Isn't this eerily similar to the plot of 1987s Dragnet? I suspect Dan Akroyd may be involved.

I've read things you people wouldn't believe. Interviews with Dick Durock on the set of Swamp Thing. I saw exclusive pictures of Pet Cematary 2 on the cover page. All those moments will be lost in time like...tears in the rain. Time to die.

I think it's very sad. Those early issues of Fangoria are priceless IMO. Even in the 90s and recently there are still very good issues now and then. Although there are probably enough sets in the hands of collectors to ensure Fangoria will never die and be forgotten, it's a shame that newbies will have a harder time getting in on it. When I was a kid I used to love the 2-page ad spreads in the mag that advertised back issues. It was like the stock market for me, to watch the price changes.

Now the price of said magazines has gone up to $10.50. The market is reacting strongly to this event.

Hmmm, those 70 issues are certainly more valuable* now. Enough about motive, let's talk opportunity - when was your Illinois forklift operator's license most recently renewed, Mr. Darkmite?

*measuring value relatively, of course

And what, exactly, were you planning to do with that bomb, Darkmite?

On a lighter note, looks like my GoreZone collection has gotten more valuable! That's right, peeps, I'm filling up with SUPER unleaded tonight! WOO-HOO!!!!

Not to mention a "They tried to kill him with a forklift!" joke...

Y'know, i never got into Fango. Just glanced ata few issues over the years. I don't have a personal opinion on the mag itself. But it was, whatever you may have thought of it, a staple in the horror industry for my entire lifetime, I think. I am on a quest to collect all the back issues of "Creepy" magazine (and since Warren went out of business years ago, and all the back issues are scattered in the hands of various small vendors, I figure they're safe from Darkmite's Forklift o' Death; even HE couldn't possibly nuke the NY Comicon and all the "Creepy"-havin' dealers therein. . . .could he?), so I can understand the impulse behind wanting to collect them all if that was your thing. In all seriousness, this is a sad thing.

Not sure if this is what you were saying, but, FYI that I checked with Fangoria on this and they say the cover price has not changed and will not change as a result of this fire...

Um, I think he was responding to the post directly before that (mine in fact) regarding how I purchased the 1st 70 issues (of Starlog) for $10 in total on ebay.

that makes better sense. thought, it seemed quite possible that they would raise the newsstand price over this... but they apparently wont, at least not right away
