I completely disagree, but I'll keep thing from going off topic.

I loved the story of SH4 but they rushed it and it shows. Having to play the exact same level twice with different objectives was awful.

SH 4 originally started as a separate IP but Konami got cold feet and turned it into a Silent Hill title

That said, there is a LOT to love about it....the concept was killer....I do NOT miss the burping 'nurse' creatures though! I loved the baby headed monsters though - they were awesome

Well, I finished Silent Hill: Homecoming - I received Ending 4 (there are five total)...all in all, darn fine game

Graphics were pretty good overall - some of the character models were iffy, but the story and the big reveals were all pretty intense....

This seems to be a game that is more accessible to people that have not played before, so I would highly recommend this one....

Took me about 13 hours to complete and missed a coupld weapons, and photos - not as meticulous as I thought I was!

On the 360 version enter the Konami code on the start menu (before pushing Start) and it unlocks a 'secret outfit - young Alex...

Code is up, down, up, down, left, right, left, right A, B

It'll take a time or two to get it, but it'll make a noise effect when you get it

So what's the final verdict on this one?

I'm torn here. I'm close to the top on the Goozex list, but I don't want to waste 1000 points if I can just wait a few months for Fallout or Mirror's Edge. Worth it?

If you are a fan of the series, get it. If you have kinda a 'meh' attitude toward past games, you can pass on this one!

Nice summary. I actually really liked both 3 and The Room, so I guess it's worth a shot. Still afraid of the lack of invert on the Y-axis, though.

If you like the Room - you should love this one. It is the longest Silent Hill game to date and has pretty great boss battles - 4 to be exact.

If you get it, the intro hospital level is kinda easy....it gets hard after that. I played the game on Hard and it was rough...

Personally, I give it a solid B rating....

It's a surprisingly engaging game when it gets going. Although the difficulty spikes are just bizarre. Once you get to the prison your chance of dying becomes almost 0, but before that it's easily the hardest game in the series.

I actually liked the plotting in the game and once I got past my initial 'non-Japanese Silent Hill = Suck' stage I realised that a lot of thought and attention had gone into the game. I'm a massive Silent Hill nerd, the kind who was put off when I found out that Homecoming despite being a prequel to Silent Hill was set in the present day (the original SH is supposedly set in the early 80s). Yet I had a real blast with the game and actually really enjoyed the story. It's like a halfway house between Silent Hill 1 and the Silent Hill movie and whilst I disliked Origins for spelling a ton of the SH1 plot out, I actually thought Silent Hill Homecoming did a good job of balancing a coherent plot, but keeping the creepy esoteric, unexplainable, unknowable aspect of the series going.

I really liked the use of Pyramid Head, after my initial grumblings at his appearance, because he's working in the same capacity as he did in 2...only he's working as a Punisher of others rather than yourself. Hence why you don't have direct confronations with him.

Loved the mix of splatter horror (the QTE with Holloway in the torture chamber is great) with the more traditional Silent Hill trappings and loved little details like the Nurses being pregnant (you can see fetuses in them if they're infront of light sources) and that the opening cutscene shows the four major villains all doing their thing (even when it's just abstract interpretations).

I'm kinda interested in seeing these guys actually tackle the Main Silent Hill plot now. Hell let them remake Silent Hill 1 and 3 (call it Generations) and see what a western influence does to the mythos of those games.

This is the only Silent Hill game where I've died mulitiple times.

In the other games it was the backtracking that was difficult, and one could easily avoid enemies.

Definetly not the case...

The graphics aren't up to RE5 standards but it's better than 3 & 4.
