Everything is Illuminated

The big elephant in the room: no Two Towers.
Yeah, LOTR:TTT is definitely the most interesting to me, too. No way I would have drafted it, but given the love that series gets... and the other two installments were drafted in the first seven picks. And TTT doesn't stand out as an inferior entry, the way something like ROTJ does. Curious.

Yeah, what happened to The Two Towers? My recollection is it was the best of those films. But haven't seen any in a while.

Apparently me and Bailey can hang. Morvern Callar is a flick not a lot of people like.

I think Matchstick said Waking the Dead was Crudup's best perf but no way, it's Jesus' Son, another S.Morton flick. I also just discovered she's the voice of Ruby in Max & Ruby which my daughter forces me to watch.

Yeah, really underloved. I liked it a lot, and not just because I had an almost unnatural thing for Samantha Morton for awhile. I don't think Lynne Ramsay has done anything since.
Black Snake Moan
Happiness of the Katakuris
Here's another one (besides The Shape of Things and Morvern Callar) I figured I was the only one who liked-- Anybody got some love for Young Adam?

Agreed. If I'd been playing, I wouldn't have let the first Pirates get past round 3, I guarantee you that. The shitty sequels are probably too fresh in peoples' minds, it's easy to forget that the first Pirates is easily one of the best adventure flicks since Raiders. I don't care if it is thirty minutes too long.

Re: Two Towers. I guess no one wanted to be the third person on the bandwagon. It would have been a terribly unoriginal pick but, in my opinion, a very valid one.

Another example: I damn near had Bourne Supremacy up for one of the later rounds, but when Ultimatum went, I shoved it aside because I didn't want to be a "copycat". Part of the fun of this draft was trying to surprise people.

Maria Full of Grace
Serenity
Final Destination 2
Saved!
With some of what was drafted in the bonus round I'd say Serenity easily belongs. The movie is a gimme for me so I let it slide.
Grizzly Man
Kinsey
Chicago
Street Fight
Deliver Us From Evil
The Kid Stays in the Picture
The Emperor's New Groove
The Sea Inside
Just fyi, Grizzly Man was taken in the bonus round.
I was totally going to grab The Host, but thread starter had to beat me to it.

I'm pleased that I grabbed the best Samurai film of the decade, the one without Tom Cruise.

I considered The Emperor's New Groove myself. 2D animation and not slotting easily into Disney's usual formula almost was enough. Animation got picked over hard in the draft.
Vanilla Sky
War of the Worlds
Minority Report
Letters from Iwo Jima
Hero
About Schmidt
Big Fish

Not necessarily stuff I would have picked, but I thought some of these would have gone.
The Quiet American.
Spy Game.
Rabbit Proof Fence.
A Very Long Engagement.
Atanarjurat.
Code 46

Ramsay had The Lovely Bones before some other guy got a hold of it.

My bad. I'm glad someone got it.
No Hotel Rwanda, either.

I seriously considered Minority Report. I love that film, even with the semi-copout ending.
Damn, I was gonna take THE QUIET AMERICAN. That's a great movie.

And I'm amazed that OCEAN'S TWELVE didn't get picked up. Did everyone think Nick had dibs on it? I certainly did.

About a Boy.

I stand by what I said about Crudup, but Jesus's Son is amazing and I did forget about it.

Still, kid has disappointed since.

I almost picked Twohy's Below. I think it's a really good flick and it was just brutalized by its studio. Like it was a Mike Judge flick or something.

Kinsey is a good flick, on the other night.

Also:

Auto Focus
Pollock
The Brown Bunny
Spider-man
I Am Trying to Break Your Heart
Ginger Snaps
The Devil and Daniel Johnston
Last Life in the Universe
Jackass: Number Two
I considered Spider Man, but I think someone took the sequel so that sort of stole the thunder.

I almost took May in the bonus round.
I know there's already a couple Johnny To pics out there, but I expected Breaking News to go as, well.
If Ripoll's including GINGER SNAPS, I'm listing GINGER SNAPS: UNLEASHED, its equally impressive sequel.

And good call mentioning MAY, Jankis. That was one of my bonus round possibilities too. Love that movie.

The King of Kong

Haven't seen it yet but looks great and think it got a great write up on CHUD a while back.

Was very good. I briefly entertained it for my bonus round pick, but went another way. Someone already mentioned Everything Is Illuminated, but I'll mention it again.

Would Blade Runner - The Final Cut been allowed? I wondered this after Army of Shadows was chosen.

Also, you know what's awesome? NO ONE chose a prequel. Even Freddy Got Fingered and Jackass Two were picked.
King of Kong was pretty awesome. This was definitely a good year for documentaries.

I was pretty surprised that Gone Baby Gone didn't make anyone's list. It's probably my second favorite film of the year, but like I said in the other thread, there were probably only three or four releases from this year that you could arguably put on a "best of the decade" list without question.

The way I went about it was films that were made previously but had a US theatrical debut during the decade were eligible. Older films that premiered a new cut this decade, or director's cuts of new films that were pretty much exclusive to DVD didn't apply. I'm not saying those were the actual rules, just my guess based on what Kirby said in other threads.

As someone who actually owns all three prequels on DVD and admits to enjoying some aspects of them, I can say that there is absolutely no way any of them deserve to be on the list. But it would have been interesting to see someone post them as a way to commit reputation suicide.
Did Howl's Moving Castle get picked?

I almost picked Man on Fire bonus round.
Where was Oliver Assayas?
Nobody picked Garden State. Props for that.
