Lupe Fiasco - The Cool

Anyone have a chance to hear this album yet? Through the MTV Online Leak stream?

Man, it's a tight album. Lupe really embracing the 'concept album' genre. Stand-out tracks, personally, so far: "Go Baby", "HelloGoodbye", "Paris, Tokyo"

Thanks for pointing out the Leak. I'm only halfway through it and I'm already thanking Jesus that Lupe's back.

He wanted to collaborate Pink Floyd on the album, which didn't come to fruition obviously, but I've been spinning this album a lot lately. It makes up for the two Jay-Z disappointments, the boring 50 album, and the good-but-not-great Kanye album. Great stuff.

Oh man, I can't wait. He's probably my favorite MC these past five years...

When does the album drop proper?

I picked it up today. Sonic Boom, you're in for a treat tonight.

This album is really great. I'm liking it a good amount more than "Food and Liquor". Favorite tracks are so far "Hi-Definition", "Hip Hop Saved My Life", "The Die", "Go Go Gadget Flow", and especially the big middle finger to ringtone rappers and critics, "Dumb it Down".

Also, given first week sales which saw him outselling a lot of recent releases from bigger names, I'm sort of impressed that the highest selling hip hop releases this year have actually been the ones which tried to break the mold a bit (Jay-Z, Kanye, Common, Timbaland)

I love this LP, and agree that it's a big step forward over Food & Liquor. He still cannot write a hook to save his life, but i'll forgive it when his verses are progressing at such a great rate...this album is "Touch the Sky mixtape" good, and I didn't think he'd be able to surpass that.

Even total floss songs like "Tokyo, Paris" and "Gold Watch" are stellar.

No love for "Little Weapon" yet? C'mon, guys.

The Cool lacks a lot of the playfulness of Food and Liquor in terms of establishing an overall mood but it is really a step in the right direction for him. It ranks alongside his debut, so it is a must buy. I am loving the Radiohead-esque Hello/Goodbye and Gold Watch. In fact, Gold Watch has one of the weirdest loops that sustains an entire rap song that I've ever heard and it is completely endearing. Don't hesitate io picking this up because he is truly emerging as one of the most creative forces in music.

Loving this album, silly hooks and all. Looks like I'm going to have to amend my favorite albums list. I'm glad he's moved beyond the "rap score" style from his last album.

Lupe's matured, that's for sure. I mean, the guy fucking raps about cheeseburgers and it works.

A little off-topic, but I think it's great that a thread on a non-hip hop-specific site hasn't had any "rap is teh gay" posts. Something I run into too much on other net forums.

Thumbs-up to CHUD and the CHUD hip hop fans.

Mention "Rap" on Kotaku and it's like someone said "Hitler" and "Awesome" in the same sentence.
