Tom Waits plays benefit in LA, 1/22/08

This could probably have gone in the regional board, but fuck it. Some people might travel for Waits, even if it's probably only going to be a 6 song, 30 min set.

The show is being hinted at as a precursor to a Waits tour next year. The artist said in a statement, "Somehow we return like the salmon to perform in important towns like Nimrod, Minn.; Square Butt, Mont.; Peculiar, Mo.; or Diagonal, Iowa. We just may be coming to a theatre near you."

His show here last year was one of the best I've ever seen. If you can get there, go.

Damn, I miss yet another Tom Waits concert. Here's to hoping the article is right and this is a precursor to a new tour. Seattle or Vancouver would be nice. Calgary would kick ass.

I'd travel across the country if it was a full show. $400 for a handful of songs is brutal. I suppose I should be thinking of it as giving to charity and getting a few songs also but I can't lie to myself quite that much.

Im still waiting for him to head to the southern hemisphere for the first time in over twenty years, if indeed he'll ever do it again. I won't even admit what I'd do to see Waits live just once.
