Mr Big

Loving me some Mr Big at the moment. Seriously underrated rock band. I think genuinely they had real class throughout. No member (Gilbert days of course) let them down. Good singer, good drummer, and of course Sheehan and Gilbert are two of the best bassists and guitarists respectively. Not only that but some excellent songs. Their first three albums were top class. Personally my favourite is their first album, the self titled Mr Big. They seem to be somewhat of a forgotton band, often overlooked for Bon Jovi, or Van Halen and the like. Probably because they were a kind of middle ground somewhere between Halen and Jovi, a bit softer than one, harder than the other I mean.
Paul Gilbert is an amazing player, it must be said.

Holy shit, a Mr. Big thread...why?

This is like Chris Kattan being in a zombie western all over again.

What Andrew said - whatever Mr Big brought to the table in technical ability, they completely deep-sixed it with heinous songwriting.

A 2nd-tier "hair metal" band that just didn't have what it took.

I just don't have that in me. I could maybe do Dokken or Skid Row.

What about Stryper with a Y, they're metal and christian.

Or how about Enuff Z'Nuff?

When I saw the title of this thread on the main page, I thought to myself that this couldn't possibly be what I think it is. I was wrong.

What's next? A thread for The Alarm?

Why stop there? Why not the power duo of Nelson or the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, and who can forget Pretty Boy Floyd fronted by Steve "Sex" Summers.

I saw Mr. Big.

With Foreigner and Bad Company, probably 1992.

That money is GONE.

Damn you all to hell!

Who cares about the songwriting, the rockin playing was top draw. Gilbert could solo the crap out of anything. Even still they had some great songs. Albeit they lacked the stand out classics that the likes of Jovi had with Living On A Prayer, or Halen's Jump. To Be With You came closest to those.

Who cares about songwriting is right! I mean, it's only music. DOWN WITH SONGWRITING!

If you think those are Bon Jovi's or VH's best songs, I will weep for you ere my head is laid to pillow this evening.

Addicted to that Rush was a great start. Gilbert and Sheehan both had the chops. Too bad their frontman sucked. A legend like David Coverdale might have helped Mr. Big stay around a bit longer.

I love me some Skid Row. Bon Jovi has always sucked ass in my opinion.

Not their best- but their most well known.

Around the time of their stardom, my family was visiting the Peabody Hotel in Memphis and saw a rock band coming through the lobby. I asked my brother who it was.
He said, "Mr. Big." I thought it was generic term for someone who was popular, so I asked again.
"No, but what's their name?"
"Mr. Big! Shutup."
"But who is it?"
Extreme is pretty cool.

I thought this was about Ronald Isley's alter ego.

"This is Mr. Bigg"
"How ya doin' Mr. Bigg?"
"What the hell is goin' on?"
"Whatcha mean what's goin' on?"

R. Kelly, you've been MATCHED.

Mr Big had terrible songwriting skills,
But Gilbert was good Racer X, I'll give him that.
They had some decent ballads, but the "rocking" stuff is pretty bland.

I'm sure you'll be happy to know they're about to embark on a reunion tour.

I'm absolutely amazed they made three albums, I always thought they pretty much gave up after the first.
Try six albums.

"So why do they call themselves Mr.Big?"

"Well it's cock rock, stupid."

"Well it does suck a lot of cock."

Damn you, Michael Shaver. Making me look up Enuff Z'Nuff to see what the hell Chip Z'Nuff's real name is, only (to my horror) finding that there is none listed on Wikipedia.

I think its so hilarious when those hair bands can only do small clubs and free concerts these days. Does anyone remember that VH1 show "Where Are they Now"? I sure they've done something on Mr Big.

Yeah, and those 70s supergroups have to play county fairs and free music festivals. Losers.

Oh wait, I'd give my left fucking nut to make a decent living playing music to two or three thousand people a night. And I bet you would too.
