1. Zodiac (becoming one of my favorite movies ever)
2. Into the Wild (so well done, absolutely everything about it)
3. The Bourne Ultimatum (lean and mean)
4. Sweeney Todd (creativity and director/star perfection)
5. The Mist (Darabont is 3 for 3 w/ King adaptations -- I knew it might be good, but not this good)

These four films are the ones that I will continue to watch for years to come. Nothing else really comes to mind.

Worst of the year: Planet Terror (Grindhouse) (and I really liked Death Proof)

Still want/need to see: No Country, There Will Be Blood, Michael Clayton, Juno, Eastern Promises, 3:10 to Yuma, Assassination of Jesse James, Gone Baby Gone

Thread Starter
I have posted my list a couple of times already, but I've caught up on a few things the last couple of weeks, and, with Blood yesterday, I'm pretty much finished for the year. Atonement, Todd, and Diving Bell are the only big ones I need to see, but:

1. I'M NOT THERE (Todd Haynes)
2. ZODIAC (David Fincher)
3. GONE BABY GONE (Ben Affleck)
4. ONCE (John Carney)
5. JUNO (Jason Reitman)
6. THERE WILL BE BLOOD (Paul Thomas Anderson)
7. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN (Joel and Ethan Coen)
8. KNOCKED UP (Judd Apatow)
9. THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES BY THE COWARD ROBERT FORD (Andrew Dominick)
10. SUPERBAD (Greg Motolla)

Instead of making a list ranking the order of my favorite films in 2007, I figured I'd just throw out the few films that really stood out for me.

Grindhouse - Hands down, the most fun I had watching a movie in a very long time. The solo title DVD's don't do the experience justice. I feel like if you didn't see the movie in the theatres with all the fake trailers, you lost something.

The Mist - I was expecting a decent horror film going in but this one really went the extra mile. It reminds me of the old school Romero zombie flicks where the monsters seem more like a metaphor with the real conflict being between the human characters. This is a very well-done film and the ending is easily the most memorable one in awhile. I wasn't crazy about a few of the CGI effects but even so, an amazing movie.

Knocked Up - It takes a lot to get me to laugh out loud when I'm watching a movie by myself. There were a few scenes in this movie that literally had me laughing until I cried. I recently watched it again and found myself laughing just as hard at the same scenes. A lot of the humor is pretty crude at first but it also manages to sneak a few sweet moments in from time to time.

God of Vampires - This was a low-budget horror film I caught at a film festival during a horror convention involving an Asian hitman who is hired to assasinate a vampire. While it might not be for everyone, the experience in watching this movie was almost like "Grindhouse" in that the director managed to take everything that I like about movies and incorporate it into the film. Being a fan of John Woo's Hong Kong action films and vampire films in general, this was the stand-out film of this weekend's festival. It reminded me of a low-budget "Big Trouble In Little China" mixed with elements of a Lucio Fulci film. The movie has yet to get an official DVD release but if you somehow get a chance to see it, I would take it.

The Simpsons Movie - Being a fan of the show since the first episode, it was something else to finally see my favorite series up on the big screen. Some will argue that it wasn't nearly as funny as the classic seasons but the bottom line was the movie entertained me a lot.

Hot Fuzz - Can't go wrong with "The Shaun Of The Dead" guys doing a take on fun but dumb buddy cop action films. Everything I expected and a few twists that I didn't see coming.

NOTE: I still have yet to see "American Gangster" but purchased it on Tuesday. Been so busy that I haven't had the time to committ to watching it.

Honorable Mentions : We Are The Night, Spider Man 3, The Host, Eastern Promises, 1408, Superbad.

The Worst Of 2007: The Condmened, Halloween, Captivity, Saw IV, I Know Who Killed Me.

Not to be a dick, but I implore you, take that argument to the NCFOM thread. I would REALLY like to hear how you justify that Rise of the Goddamned Silver Surfer's better than that film.

I've seen neither film but I'd be amused to see that argument myself.

I decided to finally update my list. It still pains me to say I'm not completely caught up. 2007 was such a fantastic year.
