I don't think Malick can be compared to any other director. He's so much his own artist. Aranovsky's great. It's not like Brad Pitt went from McG to Malick.

Wow. I don't even know what to say to this. I love the Fountain to death and I fell that while I love Malick, I'm wondering about where this could be going...

And how fantastic is it that he seems to be working regularly again after that long hiatus?

The New World is criminally underappreciated. Can't wait to see what comes next. And Pitt, I think, will be an excellent collaborator. Sign me up.

The New World is my favorite film of the last decade. And The Fountain was my favorite film of 2006.

And I agree with The Alexor...Malick is incomparable. That is no knock on Aronofsky, who I consider wildly talented, and one of the best and most interesting directors in the business.

But Malick, Malick, Malick....Malick

From how Pitt briefly described the Malick film on Charlie Rose it sounds like it could be the "Q" project which people had been speculating about.

"Yeah, it's a really profound film he's after. I mean it's beyond me. It's
time and existence and our place in that little timeline, but yeah I'm gonna do something."

This quote from Richard Taylor about Malicks vision for "Q" is mouth-watering.
"There is this creature, a Minotaur, sleeping in the water, and he dreams about the evolution of the universe, seeing the earth change from a sea of magma to the earliest vegetation, to the dinosaurs, and then to man. It would be this metaphorical story that moves you through time.'"

I wonder if Aranofsky is reading this and thinking "awesome!" or "call my lawyers".

Wasn't Pitt one of the many trying to get the Jesus Caviezel role in The Thin Red Line?

Malick seems to be getting a lot more attention lately, mostly from reviewers comparing various works (just this year I spotted his name mentioned in articles for Into the Wild, The Assassination of Jesse James, and There Will Be Blood, mostly just because they feature pretty shots of nature) to his catalog, but Alexor is right; he's incomparable. I don't think any other director can get that same magic that Malick can out of material that would, in any other hands, feel just silly.

That said, I'd like to keep my excitement in check for this one - not because I don't think it'll be wonderful, but because it'll likely take forever and a half. I can wait.

His hand and arm gestures or gesticulations, whatever you want to call it, drive me nuts.

Then you should see Jesse James.

EDIT: Or True Romance.
