The posts per page situation...

What's up? Now it's limited to 20? Don't get me wrong, in certain situations I felt 150 was too high(especially in image-heavy threads), but 20 is wayyy too low. Any chance of a happy medium of 100?

I generally surf CHUD on dial-up(the horror), and I can handle 150... usually.

Maybe it's necessary for the conversion to the new site?

I actually prefer it. 25-30 a page would be good though.

For those perplexed, I'm assuming this is a bandwidth countering measure due to the recent server issues. Cutting posts per page causes more http requests, but smaller data transfers. Considering the usual heavy loads of people checking new posts throughout the day, it will probably cut the board bandwidth usage in half.

I find the smaller post count per page much better myself. The previous limit was too much and pages took forever to load.

Agreed.

On the other hand, the Bond thread is at 144 pages now. Mighty!
Kiwis and Aussies was suddenly at 173 pages. That was quite a surprise.

However, I do like each page relatively shorter, it's easier to keep track. I'd be happier at about 50 a page. However, of all the things to complain about, number of posts per page is pretty low on my list.

I always thought that chewers could set the number of posts/page per thread on their options screen. Unfortunately I might have been confusing these boards with another sites. 100 posts per page seems a nice enough number.

I like it and I loathe it...I normally don't get onto the site during my working day, yet I usually have a good half-hour where I can print entire threads off for the journey home.
For the more interesting threads this now takes 4 times as long.

...and you have no idea about how the micro-managing bastards I work with will complain about the loss of company paper/ink/bandwidth/etc...

...if I get caught... now it's 4 times more likely.

Hoorah?

Most other forums I go to set it at 50 posts-per-page, which I think is just about perfect.

This switch makes the Diva Ass thread much better.

You used to, but that option seems to be gone now.

It's Nick's sandbox, but I think 50-75 would be best.

It was killing our servers, though I don't exactly believe it, as it's the slowest time of year. Whatever, though. As long as the site's not offline like it was. I'll find a workaround after the reboot.

With the new post count or the old one?

Also remember: more pages means more ads served. If 20 posts per page helps CHUD out, I'm fine with it.
Surely with the new one. The old one, all you'd have to do is hit the ol' Ctrl+F, and type in a keyword that reminded you of what you were looking for, and it'd be easier to find in a bigger basket to look through.

It's taken me awhile, but I don't like it. It completely destroys the flow of a conversation, and you need several clicks if a point made a few pages later is relevant to a comment made a few posts ago.

Depends on which thread. I've been catching up on the B-Action one, and now I'm completely lost.

Any way of getting the search function to narrow down to thread pages that specifically feature your search criteria? When trying to find something in a long thread... you may as well Control & F on every page.

I sincerely hope the search function gets a major overhaul during this revamp. I rely on it, and I die a little with every usage.

In Advanced search, you can use "Title" as criteria, but the Title search is always busted and never reveals all possibilities.

Also you can choose to have the results shown in order of "relevancy" instead of "date" (most recent). I still can't find threads to save my life, but it works a bit better that way.

Well, unless some behind-the-scenes work on the upgrade is going on, the post per page thing isn't helping. Been having sizeable outages and slowdowns since yesterday, both at home and at work.
Yeah, I can't log onto CHUD for hours at a time each day. It's quite frustrating that I actually have to do work while at work!

Those damn capitalistic bastards, Diva. How dare they!

I'm thrilled with the new post-per-page count. Agree about the Search function, however. But overall, I think there's progress being made.
