The Hobbit & The Bridge LOTR Film - Page 7

I thought that some months ago Jackson was saying the Blu-ray would be "certainly not before the end of the year (2008), but maybe 2009." I'm going to be mighty upset if it's longer than another year...not like there's a damn thing I can do about it.

It looks like there is no more bridge film. I am glad they are splitting it instead.

The Hobbit x 2

The plan for Guillermo del Toro and Peter Jackson's adaptation of The Hobbit has long been to make that Lord of the Rings prequel as one film and to then make a "bridge" film which would connect it to the trilogy. That plan, it seems, has changed.

Speaking to Empire, the filmmakers have revealed that The Hobbit will instead be split up over the planned two films.

"We've decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur," says del Toro, who will direct the films.

Jackson, director of the LOTR trilogy and producer of The Hobbit, adds that the filmmakers believed it would be "a mistake" to attempt to do the book as one film.

"The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the [LOTR] trilogy," he explains.

You should read the front page more. And the boards more.

...maybe just everything that isn't this thread... more.

I got it. Thanks!

I don't care what they do with The Hobbit as long as I get another fucking Enya song.
I would gladly contribute to the budget of the film not to get another Enya song.

joke = not received
what wrong with Enya? I believed that she fit the first film well.

So when are they going to start shooting this? Ian McKellen aint getting any younger.

Sorry. I've known too many people who actually, unironically like Enya.

Given that she was involved with the soundtrack anyway I really wish they'd given Liz Fraser a song. For my money Annie Lennox was the real musical offence in the trilogy, not Enya.

Not till early 2010 I think. First film due in 2011.

I could have happily lived without any of the songs.

Before anyone asks, yes, Gollum's Song too.
Eh, the songs weren't that bad. Just symptomatic of the whole 'epic fantasy flick must have meaningful pop song to go with it over credits!'. Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Brotherhood of the Wolf, LotR films...I think even Braveheart had one, for chrissakes. "Now We are Free" for Gladiator, and I'm sure Troy had one...

Anyone get the feeling when del Toro and Jackson get together to work on The Hobbit, the beer starts flowing, the bullshitting starts, and nothing gets done the entire night?

There's probably a notebook with "Scene One" written on one page they've been carrying around for months.

You sure you're not thinking of a typical evening at your pad?

Just because these guys aren't entertaining your ass with a podcast every week doesn't mean they haven't been working hard on getting this behemoth ready for filming next year.
Somebody's taking this a wee bit too seriously.
I sure hope Christopher Lee is still around to be involved with the film when shooting starts.

Because GdT is notoriously lazy isn't he! A fat, lazy mexican. And Jackson too,
a fat lazy kiwi. Lazy lazy lazy.
Yeah, that's exactly what he meant.
I could be confusing him with someone else, but isn't del Toro the guy that directs every shot, and doesn't use use 2nd units? Has anyone heard whether he'll stick to that work ethic here, or whether the realities of the schedule will force him to have additional crews shooting material?
DelToro hates 2nd units (he squarely blames him being forced to have a 2nd unit on Mimic for ruining the flick), and even though this is going to be a gargantuan shoot, I don't see him relenting that stance. Maybe Jackson will convince him, but I doubt it.
What if... JACKSON DOES THE 2ND UNIT???!! OMG
post #324 of 332
Well, if there are lots of close-ups of people talking in slow motion, then we'll know.

The sheer logistics of the film might force DelToro to change.
DelToro changes for no man.

I wonder what draft of the script(s) they're on right now?
So, maybe DelToro and Jackson aren't seeing eye to eye on the direction of the films?

I'm thinking more along the lines that GDT has split through mitosis or just through sheer awesomeness so he can be many places at once.

Isn't there someone he trusts to lead 2nd? Not direct but get the essentials together based on storyboards. He shows up for the shoot and changes things as needed. Or is that how he works now?
Given your special relationship now, you should be 2nd unit Troy!
