Now it comes out that the one who was killed was apparently trying to distract the tiger from killing her initial victim, according to this article in the BBC.

The two others involved in the attacks sound like real upstanding young men.

Quote:
When Carlos Sousa Jr. didn't show up for Christmas dinner, his father called several of his son's friends - including the two brothers injured in the tiger attack that killed the teen.

Either Amritpal "Paul" Dhaliwal, 19, or his 23-year-old brother Kulbir Dhaliwal answered the phone and told Sousa Sr. that his son wasn't with them. In reality, the three young men were either on their way to or had already arrived at the San Francisco Zoo, where they would later be mauled by a 350-pound Siberian tiger.

"I said, 'Have you seen my son?' and he said, 'No,' then he wished me a merry Christmas," the father said.

The Dhaliwal brothers remained in stable condition Thursday, recovering from their injuries at San Francisco General Hospital. Their relatives, reached Thursday at their home on a quiet San Jose cul-de-sac, declined to speak to reporters.

"We have no comment at this time," said the boys' 25-year-old brother Sunny Dhaliwal, adding that his family wanted to speak to the boys and hospital staff before talking publicly about the incident. A man accompanying family members outside the house later told a reporter that the family would have nothing to say until after consulting with a lawyer.

The Dhaliwal brothers have been hostile to police in the current death investigation and were "extremely belligerent" in an earlier encounter with police this year, authorities say. After the zoo attack, authorities said, the brothers had refused to give their own names, identify the victim or initially give authorities an account of what occurred.

Thursday, police interviewed the two brothers, as well as Sousa's father. Authorities didn't release the details of the interviews but did say their investigation showed that the tiger first attacked the older brother.

So the cat leaped nearly 20 ft, latched on to the dangler's legs and clawed over him to freedom?

That was a badass cat.
Or the tiger latched on to the dangler's legs and the dangler's idiot friends hauled both of them out together.

Or, how they helped the tiger get out and it killed their bystander buddy, so they're not talking so they don't get charged with negligent homicide.

I predict, The Dhaliwal brothers will sue the City/Zoo.

Both Oates and Hall would be proud.

EDIT: Gawd, that's like a Frazetta big cat. I so wanna see that flick. I'm so gonna be disappointed by that flick.
I hope the Dhaliwal family gets fifty copies of that DVD next Christmas.

I can't believe we've gotten this far without someone posting a video of that Del The Funky Homo Sapien song.

Watching this movie right now actually, and... surprise! It sucks. There's a weird little religious kid with some kind of relation to the tiger, and there's a painting up on the kid's bedroom wall of Jesus surrounded by lions that's just begging me to grab a screenshot of it.

Gary Busey plays the Sheriff trying to solve the murders. I'd like to see the reasoning of anyone hiring him to protect their town.

Oh, and no bare sneakers so far, but a couple of amputated limbs.
The people who voted Busey must've thought of it as a joke vote, well guess what town!

So, I want to know if Gary paused the crazy long enough to get filmed? Or maybe he just left the crazy playing and they just filmed it for the movie?

The real cover is a few posts above the fake one. Still very funny though.

Worthless New Year's Eve story: I went to a Jesuit High School, and one of the oldest priests who lived on campus occasionally served as a substitute. We all thought he was cranky and ornery, but the guy'd done some ministry in India, and there were rumors that he'd killed a tiger. One day, somebody in a class I was in that he was subbing for (wow, good syntax there) had the stones to ask him if the stories were true. The priest then proceeded to tell this absolutely bad-ass story about hunting a tiger through the jungles of India. We all had a little bit more respect for him after that.

In short: Old people are awesome.

This just gets better and better. It appears that one of the Dhaliwal 'victims" banged against a locked restaurant window and was ignored until the tiger came up and mauled him. The zoo employees discounted his ravings as they believed he was a "mentally unstable person." Dhaliwal was then attacked and transformed into a canine-esque gatekeeper for the demon-lord Zul right outside the locked restaurant.

Also, the medics initially refused to treat Sousa as they didn't want to enter an unsecured area.

**According to new sources, the Dhaliwal brothers had slingshots on them at the time. An empty vodka bottle was also found in a car used by Amritpal Dhaliwal, 19, and his brother, Kulbir, 23, on the day of the mauling, according to the source. It has been claimed that the discoveries could be an indication that the brothers may have taunted the 350-pound Siberian tiger before it leapt from its grotto. (from wikipedia)

Sounds like these feckless dipshits were getting their rocks off firing slingshots at a supposedly helpless animal.

In their defense, they are in San Francisco.

There's no shortage of bat-shit crazy wandering the streets there.

Oh I know, I know.

Or for that matter, the zoo employees could've thought the guy was reenacting that one scene from Ghostbusters where Lewis was banging on the glass at Tavern on the Green.

From Sfgate.com:

Quote:
Both Kulbir and Paul Dhaliwal were charged Oct. 9 with misdemeanor public intoxication and resisting a police officer after they were arrested a short distance from their home while apparently chasing two men, according to court documents.

Kulbir Dhaliwal allegedly cursed officers and kicked the security partition between the back and front seats in a police car after being handcuffed in the Sept. 7 incident, the police report said.

The brothers pleaded not guilty to the charges and are scheduled to appear in court Jan. 15, records show.

"The reports indicate they were extremely belligerent with police," said Steuart Scott, the deputy district attorney assigned the case.

I like this part:

Quote:
"Don't tell them what we did," Kulbir reportedly told Paul in the ambulance, paramedics told police.
Also - the 2 brothers are charged in 2 unrelated incidents:

These two just sound like complete dipshits. Should I be disappointed that the tiger didn't maul them to death, too? No, I shouldn't be. But I am.

My sentiments, exactly.

So a 24 year old gave 2 underage kids alcohol and they all smoked pot, and went to the zoo (probably seemed like a great idea while drunk and high) and taunted a tiger, resulting in the 17 year old getting killed.

Well, I guess at least they got detained before driving home under the influence and killing more people.
What punishment would fit this crime ... oh wait, perhaps they've already received it (but unfortunately survived)!!
Friend of mine who works in a zoo over here has told me some crazy shit that these kids have caused. Zoos all over the world are having rules changed, money and jobs lost, because of these douchebags. The San Francisco Zoo is in real danger of closing now, apparently.

Do you really think that a 24 year old who facilitated all this stupidity which resulted in the death of a 17 year old, and continues to lie and cover up for it, has "already received" enough punishment? I don't know that many 24 year olds, but most of them are clever enough not to supply illegal drugs and alcohol to other people in large public places, much less follow it up with a tiger taunting. If they'd driven home and gotten in a wreck, killing the 17 year old, instead of a tiger attack, would you say the scratches the other two received were punishment enough?

Well, not building your tiger enclosure appropriately - even to minimum standards - so the tiger can get out? Really incredibly stupid and wrong. On the Japanese guy-who-is-responsible-commits-suicide level of wrong. As much as I hate the idiots who let their vicious dog get away with biting people... expand that to people who don't take precautions for their giant vicious tigers.

I know people who keep tigers (and big dogs) and they manage to keep them away from the prey (people, horses). When they don't it's a BIG problem and it's the keepers' fault.

See also, for example, the Dallas zoo's tiger enclosure. A full story away from the people, who look down on them from above, with full height walls so people can't get into the enclosure.

You missed the point of my post. The appropriate punishment would be being mauled to death by a tiger. "Unfortunately, they survived."

Now they require more punishment, since the first didn't stick.

The San Francisco Zoo, like most institutions in San Francisco is horribly, horribly run. I wouldn't want to see it close down permanently, but change hands? Absolutely.
