The Chewer Consumer Reports Thread

Since this forum is frequently filled with "give me recommendations on this non-film related item," I thought we could condense this into a single thread.

First up: I need a relatively inexpensive coffee maker. I can't do this industrial shit I get at work much longer.

Oh, and if anyone has any good recommendations on what audio program is most helpful in learning a foriegn language, that too.

I can't help you with the coffee maker, but go for Pimsleur when learning a new language.

I've used it for Arabic, and Japanese, and Italian. I couldn't be happier with the results.

So I take it you are a cunning linguist? I too have been looking for a good language program to "bone up" on my Spanish.

I wouldn't go that far. I just know how to order beer, ask directions to the bathroom, say "excuse me," and ask if someone knows how to speak English in a bunch of languages.

Really, that's about all you need.

Damn foreigners should all speak English, anyways!

They got all the languages on that thing? Need to learn Greek for a trip of mine next year.

Bunn is the best coffee maker (so I'm told over and over again by my in-laws), but is expensive--like in the $200-$300 range. The last two coffee makers I've bought for my wife's use (I don't drink coffee) have been Braun, and they both lasted a while, and I think were both under $70.

I bought the Rosetta Stone program to learn Tagalog (so I know what my wife's family is talking about when I'm visiting). I haven't finished it yet, but it seems to work pretty well if you're willing to dedicate the time necessary. It uses an immersion technique, where everything, from the book to all parts of the computer program are in that foreign language to get you to think in the new language, not just translate words to English in your head.

Oh, and it's not cheap (ran me about $350)

That Gevalia deal is the way to go. We've had 2 or 3 of them. The coffee machines are great, and the coffee is good too. And you're not really obligated to buy much if anything.

Maybe he wants his Gus Avrakotos costume to perfect in terms of detail.

And I had heard Rosetta Stone was the way to go (Always wanted to learn Brazillian Portugeese) but it is extremly expensive.

Seeing as how Arabic and Japanese (one is for work, the other is just 'cause) are two of the languages I'm interested in learning, thanks, Frank. But 200+ bucks? Wow.

(Also, I'm interested in actually learning the language, not just being able to get by in it.

Damn straight.

Oh an on unrelated note, those automatic shower cleaners are fucking useless.

After trying all types of other methods, I have come to the realization that most inexpensive language helps (books & cds you can get for less than $50) aren't worth the paper/plastic they're printed/burned on.

After years of purchasing those $10 coffee makers which went out it seemed every month I invested in a Brewstation and that baby lasts well over a year. Considering my household inhales coffee this has turned out to be a great investment.

My request:
I need a good Portable DVD Car Kit.

We just got a portable DVD player for my son for long trips on the road, and we need a handy case that attaches to the back of a headrest.

I went to best buy last night and they ranged from $30-45 bucks. Saw the exact models at Target in the $25-$30 range.

I went online to Walmart and they range from $15-$25.

Any recommendations: Is cheaper better?
