I just used a bunch of Aircel comics for kindling.

While at my folks' house for the holiday, I was asked to deal with the half dozen longboxes that have been in a closet for years. I knew most of them were worthless and mostly filler crap that I didn't want, but tonight I went through each pulling out the more obvious 'mature' stuff so they could be donated to a children's shelter or something similar in the area.

The bottom of the barrel was a set of books from Aircel -- Elflord, Ex-Mutants and a few others. A few issues of each, and while I'd like to say I have no idea where they came from I'm sure I enthusiastically bought them 20 years ago. Idiot.

So I used them to kickstart the fire tonight. The heat released from the cheap newsprint was more valuable than anything else the books might once (or ever) have offered.

I should have taken pictures as proof.

I had to google to even realize that Liefeld did anything for Aircel. So, no. It was Barry Blair stuff.

I would have given you $500 for them.

This is so much better, from Dave Cooper's Wikipedia entry:

Quote:
Blair has caused controversy with some comics that have featured young boys being tortured or eroticized, and while Cooper has never said that he was molested by Blair, he told The Comics Journal that their relationship was awkward and "inappropriate" and it served as the inspiration for Cooper's book Dan and Larry in: Don't Do That! The book features a childlike, "duckish" creature named Dan who is mentored by a pushy, older creature named Larry, and at one point Larry holds Dan down and presses against him, saying, "THIS is how we should play sometimes."
I love Cooper's stuff, and until going through the stuff tonight (much of which I literally hadn't touched since around 1990) I didn't realize he started at Aircel.

(Also from Cooper's page: his children's book pseudonym is 'Hector Mumbly'.)

I'm not sure if I've ever heard of Barry Blair before, but now I can't help but love him...

I'm sure you can find kindling for way less than that.
