I watched STAR TREK: INSURRECTION.

F. Murray Abraham films post-'96 are like $20 pros.

Ya know what I said to myself as the credits started to roll? "Gregg Henry was in this?"
I remember seeing it in the theater with my family way back when. The best part was afterwards, when my dad, a life-long Trek lover, tried to convince us all, including himself, that it didn't completely suck.

The only reason anybody should own it is if it came with this autographed photo of Gregg Henry:

F. Murray tries to recreate the magic of Surviving the Game by HOWLING TOWARDS THE HEAVENS at the end of Insurrection, but it just wasn't the same.
Whew, well this could have been worse. You could have just seen National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets or had unprotected sex with a hooker, not sure what is the lesser of those two evils..

Crisis averted.

Molti, just remember this piece of advice that I picked up from one Alfred Pennyworth:
"Why do we fall, sir? So that we might better learn to pick ourselves up."

Me? I never saw Insurrection, so I'm walking tall.

Will do. Maybe tonight I'll set my mind right with a little SEARCH FOR SPOCK. Been a while since I spent some time with First Officer Miguel Ferrer.
I am shamed for seeing this in the theater.

The only great part about the movie was the big ass ship.

The rest of the show was the Star Trek franchise imploding.

Same here. That was some cringe-worthy shit right there. Easily the worst of the entire series. For now.

Love SEARCH FOR SPOCK also for giving us some quality insane Bones moments.
I too am a Star Trek:Insurrection survivor. I saw it in the theater with a friend because we were young and naive.

They showed the Phantom Menace trailer before it (remember when hearing that title was still exciting?) It was the first time either of us had seen it and we spent the whole movie talking about that instead.
I went in because I wanted to see how they killed Data. They failed this seemingly simple task.

Yep, he's the one who lives. Also appearing as a Klingon in part 3: Branscombe Richmond.

Motisanti, just listen. Everything is going to be fine. You're very high right now. You will probably be that way for about five more hours. Try taking some vitamin B complex, vitamin C complex. If you have a beer, go ahead and drink it. Just remember you're a living organism on this planet, and you're very safe. You've just taken a heavy drug. Relax, stay inside and listen to some music, Okay? Do you have any Allman Brothers?

Individually, I understand the words. Together, they make no sense. You're telling me that Jim the taxi driver and Dan-Dan Fielding played Klingons? This world never fails to amaze me.

INSURECTION had been the only TREK film I hadn't seen. I think I held out so I could seem like less of a fan by saying "I haven't even seen all the films." Now I wish I could have kept my ability to say that.

Now the circle is complete.

I know for a fact I saw this in the theater, but can't remember what the fuck happened in it. It made Star Trek V feel like Star Trek III (still not great, but a huge fucking improvement over Final Frontier).

Heck, I think I may like V more...

Help me, please...

For a second I though INSURRECTION was gonna get good when Picard and Worf were trying to track down rogue Data. At one point it looked like Worf and Data were gonna fight. My heart started to beat a little faster. Then Worf just hit a button on some remote and turned Data off.

Way to make your movie far less exciting, Jonathan Frakes.

That is not an honorable fight.

Worf fails again as a klingon.
The best part of Insurrection is the 'perfect moment' where time slows down and nothing happens for a while. But then stuff starts happening again.

(edit) And the part where Crusher and Troi are talking about their tits.

This (and apparently someone else's quote about a "big ass ship") looks to be a reference to Star Trek: Nemesis, which is to Star Trek: Insurrection as Britney Fox is to Cinderella.

Jesus. I didn't realize I just blurred those two films together.

Same here Billylove, same here.

I might shame myself even more than you guys, but I liked Insurrection. I liked the struggle between petulant youth and mature wisdom. I like it whenever Picard realizes that it's time to get busy fucking or get busy dying. I like whenever they expand his time is running out and he must have kids to save the family arc. Ok, sure, there's not much action and it's all pretty schmaltzy, but I still love the hippy story and the eventual resolution where the "kids" come home.

Screw the borg, time is always the real enemy! Ah, so deep and profound.
Wrath of Kahn and First Contact will make you feel better. Maybe even Undiscovered Country. Now just stick in Firefly dvds and be happy. Make Alfred proud.
Voyage Home isn't on the list? Like I have any idea about these things.
I saw this for the first time in ten years yesterday. I wish I hadn't. A few brief and possibly irrelevant thoughts:

1) This would make a fun double feature with Into the Wild.
2) If you're going to make all your villains look like a character from Brazil, don't choose Jonathan Pryce's mom.
3) This is what happens when a room full of nerds think they're funny. "What if they sang Gilbert and Sullivan?" "We should have them talk about their tits." "What if Worf got a zit?"
4) I loved the "cop taking off his badge scene" with Picard. Were those batteries?
5) I spent five minutes trying to remember why Zerbe seemed so familiar. I then remembered Matrix Reloaded. I then remembered an entire summer where I thought it was the greatest movie ever made. I was/am a retarded person.
6) Data says, "Saddle up. Lock and load." Someone thought that would be badass.
7) Tremors 2 has better CGI.
I just remembered the "Switch me to manual control!" moment at the end.

*commodore 64 joystick pops up*

Bit that had me shaking my head the most: Picard mambos.

And for the record, I think the best part of SFS was Kirk's McClane-like communicator moment near the end of the movie.

Sorry about your crew, but as they say on earth....C'EST LA VIE!!

The nadir of the entire series, and it happens right out the gate in the film. A sickening feeling of dread washed over me in the theater as I correctly believed I was in for a long 2 hours.

The only thing I remember about Insurrection is Troi and Crusher talking about her breasts and Picard avidly trying to bang Donna Murphy. And those aren't positive memories.

At least 5 has major cheese and Shatner. Insurrection and Nemesis are outright horrible, especially after the great First Contact.

Ya know what I didn't hate? GENERATIONS.

It has been years since I saw it and the end is lackluster but overall it was a decent second-tier TREK flick. Dug it more than FIRST CONTACT which I've never been down with.

Thinking seeing once is bad? Try being forced to see this several times a week. Let me explain..

When I was seventeen I was in a mental facility for teens and the place had a very strict policy against television and movies above a PG rating. Also the ward where I was had a very limited library…about five movies which consisted of ; Star Trek: Insurrection, Attack of the Clones, Remember the Titans, Treasure Planet and some shitty direct to video Power Rangers movie. Every night we required to be in the lobby for movie time(they didn’t like the idea of us being in our room alone for long) So I must have seen this puppy six or seven times.

I've seen every Trek n the theaters since III. Insurrection, Nemesis, and V have been painful consequences of this tradition.

Was their goal to give everyone a reason to stay?

This alone shows you how out of ideas the franchise was:

that you post a blank photo?
Insurrection would have been a decent one-hour episode of the series. But a two-hour feature for such a slight story? Nope.
Is this the one where Picard wears a muscle tee?
thats how i've felt after every movie since First Contact
post #48 of 223
I saw this in the theatre and had the stereotypical "moment of clarity." It was the last new ST:TNG movie I watched in any format. Occasionally I'll feel weak and consider adding Nemesis to my Netflix list, but have yet to falter.

One day at a time, man.
I was going to start a thread asking this, but I'll just post it here.

I'd never seen a Star Trek movie/episode before this past November when I caught First Contact one late night. Since then, I've caught several episodes of Voyager (pretty sure I've fallen for Jeri Ryan), and something has been nagging me.

What's the deal with the holo-deck? How in the hell does society not come to a crushing halt with an invention like that? From what I've seen, just about anything imaginable is possible, including changing your own appearance and sex with (replicated) people that you can control. People get addicted to just about anything they can, and being able to pretty much play God would definitely affect a great percentage of society, if not all of it. You would think exploring the galaxy would go way down on the priority list with something like that around...

Do they ever explain why this doesn't happen?

Seemed like shit was always going wrong with the holodeck on TNG, even in INSURRECTION the grand evil plan revolved around a holodeck. That technology was more trouble than it was worth.
