2 Days In LA

So work is sending me to LA for at least 1 night, if not 2. I've never had a big urge or desire to go to LA, but is there anything I absolutely must try to do while I'm out there? Other than an earthquake, which would cause me to die of fright.

Sadly the New Beverly is under renovation at the moment.

After spend 2 days in LA, I have to admit ya'll have a nice city. It gets a bad rap for so many things, but I found it quite nice. I didn't get a chance to explore too much, but the weather was beautiful, the freeways were not filled with traffic (but could use a paving), the streets were easy to navigate, and damn...

The view from my hotel was just a panorama of mountains, many snow capped. Never seen a mountain before this weekend, so that was quite amazing.

I hope to get a chance to come out and spend a bit more time there someday.

I stayed in Norwalk. I was mostly on the 105, and surface streets.

I didn't get a chance to go do much at all. I stayed pretty close to Norwalk, since the company I had to visit was close to there. Did have some great views from the hotel there.

HOLD THE FUCK ON!

I'm from Norwalk. Rad.

I know what you mean about the mountains, if you were here during last week we had some beautifully clear skies with and you could see them pretty well.

But now I'm horribly intrigued. Norwalk isn't really "L.A.". In fact, I'd say it's L.A. County''s last Hurrah before you become overwhelmed by Orange County.

What sort of company were you visiting out here?

Samesies. "The freeways weren't bad" was what tipped me off to the possibility that it wasn't L.A. proper. Sad state of affairs for our traffic, huh?

I was meeting with a valve assembly company Vader. And yeah, it was definitely not LA proper, but I enjoyed it. Also ate at some fast food (kind of) italian place, francone's or something? Not the best, but damn I wish we had them in Houston. For a quick bit of cheap italian, it was damn tasty.

Frantone's.

My friend's Mom is one of the cooks there. Rad.

That place is a few feet away from our ONLY Comic book shop. And a few blocks from there is our ONLY Strip club. Coincidence?

Awesome, thanks for stopping by. 3 more visits and you earn a mustache comb!

Wow. It's refreshing to hear someone say something positive about LA! Someone from Texas even!!

Hey, I'm more patriotic for the state of Texas than anyone else, but I'm not a closed minded nitwit. I know how to appreciate fine places across the globe, even if they don't happen to be in my little corner.

And I wish I knew about the comic shop and strip joint. Would have made the trip much better!

The houses though...ya'll pay that much for THOSE? Almost identical stucco with 3 different color choices? I'm so sorry!

WELCOME TO SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA!

At least in my part we get to choose our color. Drive down a few more miles and you can't tell any of the houses apart. I imagine they know where they live by the size of their mini-palm tree out front.

Yep and it worse in other neighborhood. Like in Rialto and Moreno valley the WHOLE community will be about 4 different styles, 3 different colors. Your probably not out here anymore but if you were, you shoulda took a drive in Hollywood hills, breathtaking homes. Thats where like paris hilton, brittney spears, and a lot of celebrities live

It's a fucking nightmare.

In my neighborhood, a shitty little box of a house - maybe 900 sq ft, will sell for 800K.
But I bet you have an awesome view of your neighbor.
Yes exactly. A beautiful view of my neighbors cement wall.

You still haven't. Those are above average sized hills, don't believe what anyone says out here.

Cool on the fact you had a nice time in Norwalk but the next time you visit LA, you should probably - I don't know - actually visit LA.
Oh, you're just being a dick now.

He was here on business.

He's probably talking about San Gorgonio. Which, at 11,500 ft, is most definitely a mountain. It is also surrounded by 9 other peaks in the 10k foot range.

If you don't think those are "mountains", then I can only assume you're from Tibet.

That's one hellova guess.

try to stay alive and not breathe the air. also if you see someone driving a hummer while petting a dog...get as far away as you can from the vehicle

even Mt Baldy in LA is over a mile high. The eastern summit is higher at an elevation of 10,064 feet while the west is at 9,988 feet. there are a lot of mountains in LA over 6,000 feet. the mountains in San Bernardino are higher. If you go a couple of hundred miles to the north the High Serra's get a lot higher, but those are the highest mountains in the lower states.

Sadly not, but the Sherman Oaks Arclight is showing Flashdance on Tuesday. Would I consider actually going to this.....perhaps.
