Anyone catch this? It's been playing festivals for the last year. I didn't even know it was hitting theaters till recently.

Haven't heard of it until now, but I like the poster.. and agree that the hallucination aspects of it could make for an interesting 'whats really happening' angle on things.

Will have to keep an eye out for this one. Thanks for the heads up!

Was hoping for some SEEDPEOPLE or MATANGO type flick from the title, but this sounds like a blast. Love the poster. The trailer looks creepy (from what I could make out... really dark most of the way through). And that final scream is the 2nd most overused scream sound effect behind the Willhelm (Tie-Fighter shriek).

My silly boss at work asked me why they "just didn't go to Amsterdam... makes no sense. You go to Ireland for the pub crawls, not shrooms."

Much as I like Breathnach's I WENT DOWN (one of the best Irish films of the last 10 years, although it's not like it has much competition), this is one to miss. It's quite simply shit.

I revisited that not too long ago after being reminded of it by it's trailer in the 42nd Street Forever collection.

It's worth the nostalgia check out. It does drag quite a bit, but there remains that bit of Invasion of the Body Snatchers style creepiness to it. Uncut from the old TV "Monster Week" specials, there's a lot more Lifeboat type interpersonal tension and a lot less mushroom people.

Huh, I always thought I should hunt down Matango after seeing that trailer. Might have to do that now.

Speaking of other recent Irish horror flicks- Boy Eats Girl is pretty bad shit. If it weren't for the accents I would've thought it was any other American slasher/zombies movie/high school drama bullshit. You know, the one where the dorky kid comes back with supernatural powers to fuck with the jocks and get the girl. Yawn.

But Williams, Shrooms is really that bad? What's wrong with it?

I agree with DS on the analysis, but I might have enjoyed it a bit more. It's what you'd expect from 60's Japanese scifi-horror.

Well, there's the complete lack of new ideas and it's very derivative. It's like listening to someone else's drug story.

I'll see it and enjoy at as a derivative slasher. Aren't they all? I'd be a little more excited maybe if I could see what the fuck was going on. Darkest trailer ever.

The Nevermore Film Fest in Durham, NC is gonna show "Shrooms" next month (the fest dates are 2/22/08-2/24/08) I watched the trailer on Magnolia Films website, it looks pretty cool. Besides, when was the last time a horror movie came from the Emerald Isle? Oh, and by the way, didn't "Matango" get shown on a episode of "MST3K"?

Went to a midnight screening of Jurassic Park and had this trailer play before it. Aside from the weird 3D movie-ish hallucination effects, there was nothing particularly noteworthy about it.

Until the title.

Like Midnight Meat Train, the audience howled when they saw it fade it. SHROOMS.

How could they not?

I caught it at Nevermore this weekend. A pretty decent film with some great mindf**k moments. The first thirty minutes suggest a stoner comedy with horror elements (theres a weird talking cow scene), but it quickly turns into serious horror after that.
