:: obligatory 'Hey Cracked is still around statement' ::

I'll admit, I chuckled. But the Dark Crystal is awesome, dammit!

The last time I remember actually reading something from Cracked is back when TMNTII came out!

Wow... I'm kinda old.

The last time I read Cracked I was about 13 years old. I picked Mad because it had Spy Vs Spy cartoons.

I was about 10. Actually, I probably peeked at parts of one here and there after that. I only remember one for TMNTII: Secret of the OOOOOOZE!

Like Garfield comics, it was something I realized later on that they weren't funny.

EDIT: I guess it's sad that I ever considered Garfield funny...

Not to mention no knock-off could compete with The Lighter Side of... and Snappy Answers to Stupid questions.

Same here. And it had those tiny Sergio Aragones cartoons in the margins. Though, I think he defected to Cracked later.

No, Don Martin was the defector.

I actually went through a period of preferring Cracked to Mad because the artwork was more realistic. I later came to understand that 'realistic' equals 'unimaginative' and developed an appreciation for caricature.

The article is damn right about The NeverEnding Story though.

I'll always hold Cracked in high regard, for it introduced my young eyes to the art of John Severin. I've been a fan ever since. Cracked and Mad always ran hand in hand for me when I was a kid. Cracked had some duds, but so did Mad. I liked them both.

Alright, I'm surprised. That list is pretty f**kin funny.

"But perhaps the worst expectation this movie sets up in kids is the idea that if you believe in something with enough fervor, fantasy can become reality. If only you dream hard enough, magic can happen, stories can come alive, and you too can be a hero. Not hearing any voices from beyond? Still stuck working at Taco Bell to pay off credit card debt? Books continuing to spiral into disuse? Well, that's on you, you unimaginative little shits. Guess you just didn't want it bad enough, did you? We'll be sure to tell the Childlike Empress that as she slowly and painfully dies from your lack of imagination."

I remember that when Voltron and Transformers were popular the first time, they were in every issue of Cracked.

I'm old enough to remember that when Mork & Mindy and Dif'rent Strokes were popular for the only time, they were in every damn issue of Cracked.

I'll always be a "Cracked" fan as they were the first and only magazine to publish a letter I sent them (to be fair, I think they were the only mag I ever actually wrote to) and while today, I question any magazine that would allow a letter from an 8-year-old with ADD blabbing on about Freddy Krueger to be published, I still have a place in my heart for them and I'm still trying to track down that issue of Cracked Monster Party from 1989.
