Fantastic list, hopefully it'll bring you guys/gals as many memories as it did to me!

As a kid I almost fell off of the "Hang-On" game multiple times, I guess the name was apt. Or I was too short to play it.
"Tank 8" looks insane, and I would love to have a better game, or home system, plugged into that "Computer Space" cabinet. That thing looks awesome.

Time Traveler was a P.O.S., and they forgot Chiller, but that was very fun.

"sharkJAWS" is pretty funny.

I was at an arcade earlier tonight(yes, one still exists, and it's new too!) scoping it out, and they had some crazy cabinet with what looked like a periscope from a submarine, but it wasn't a sub game. The periscope had a screen built in to it, which kind of defeated the purpose of a main screen on the cabinet. Either way, it was pretty snazzy.

That list sucks. Do not put dog shit looking boxes on there simply because of their historical significance. Or, if you do, put the original Star Wars game at number one since it was light years better than anything else available at the time.

Also, where's the elevated Afterburner super-cabinet that cost something like 3.00 bucks to play? In 1990. Or the Street Fighter cabinet with the big oversized plush buttons?

Fah, I say to this list. Fah.

grr no Captain American and the Avengers.

If I had a 6-player X-Men cabinet, I might never leave the house.
Where's 'Gauntlet'? I must have spent a thousand dollars on that game back in the day.

I have to admit to totally agreeing on the #1 choice. 'Discs of Tron' was a definite favorite of mine, and it was indeed hard to find a full cabinet version of it in most arcades.

...because that behemoth blocked the doorway.

You're absolutely right! Where the fuck is Gauntlet!

Discs of Tron was a damned good cabinet. There used to be one at the Redondo Pier arcade, back in the day. I don't remember the game being particularly good ...

X:Men needs to be released on Xbox Live, along with the two Dungeons and Dragons Arcade games.

Discs of Tron was a worthy choice at No.1. They should have put Wacko and SubRoc 3D in there somewhere, though.
I agree with the notion of Discs Of Tron as #1. However, where are The Punisher, Spy Hunter, Double Dragon, GunBlade NY, Ikari Warriors, Heavy Barrel, and I 2nd Captain America And The Avengers. These games all had great arcade cabinets.
Does no one else remember the afterburner super cabinet that basically looked like a big metal frame cockpit suspended before a gigantic screen? That thing was incredible. And dangerous.
My local arcade was way too lame to have any of those massive cabinets that you your sit in, though it did have Sonic Blast Man, and I remember watching a guy break his arm playing it. I wonder if the guy got in on that class action lawsuit...
The 1990's Sit Down Daytona by Sega that could be placed next to seven other cabinets?
Ikari Warrior's?
SNNK 4x Game Station?

Dammit, now I'm going to spend all day trying to remember the names of games that should've been on the list. There was one that really DID have bicycle pedals, and a little fan situated in the cabinet in front of your face, so the faster you'd pedal, the stronger the breeze you'd feel.

Then there was another police chase game where one person steered the car and another person operated the light gun mounted on the "dashboard," all in a two-seater cabinet. That one was pretty fun.

That damn cowboy, right? I can still picture him. If I remember correctly it was like Dragon's Lair, where you'd flick the joystick in whichever direction according to on-screen prompts. And then the cowboy would be shot, and you'd put in more money.

Overlord, I remember that version of 'Afterburner'...it was like $4 a game, so I think that I only played it once or twice.

Another one of those fun co-op games was 'Quartet'. It was kinda a sci-fi version of 'Guantlet', except that it was a side scroller intead of a top-down view. I played that one alot whenever I could find it. I played a shitload of 'Zaxxon' and 'Xevious' too. I was on a big 'Moon Patrol' kick for a while.

Not to totally derail the thread...but I remember really getting into pinball games too. 'High Speed' and 'Pinbot' ate up alot of my quarters. The 'Star Wars' pinball game was fun too.

I know that I'm dating myself when I say this, but oh well: I really miss those days of the massive arcade. You'd grab $10 and head out with your friends down to the mall (or whatever) and spend a few hours on 'Gauntlet'.

'Wizard, your life force is running out.'
'Elf needs food, badly.'
'Warrior...is about to die.'
and the all time best - 'THAT was a heroic effort.'

Good times, indeed.

Yeah, that list brought back a lot of memories, and a surprising number of games I'd never heard of.

The thing is, when my friends and I went to the arcade, we only played two games: WrestleFest ("We snack on danger! Dine on death!") and NBA Jam ("Boomshakalaka!"). We were not going to waste our money on lesser quality games, no matter how cool they might have looked.

And now, that NBA Jam machine we played as kids sits in my garage. The arcade sold off all their old cabinets a few years back, and I snatched that bad boy up. It is my pride and joy, and if I could only fit it through the front door (goddammit), it would have a prized place in my home. If I could've afforded both, I would've bought the WrestleFest machine too.

Was that "Lucky and Wild"? http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8462
I loved that game, mainly because I played with a buddy of mine that loved driving the car, so I had both guns for myself.
NBA Jam was great because it had a free game. Hold down all the buttons and all the controllers and you played a rudimentary 3-d shooting game. Arcade owners hated the shit out of that.

Gauntlet was the messiah BITD (back in the day). I remember for one of my birthdays getting ten dollars in quarters for myself and three friends, and vowing to beat the game. Yeah. Didn't happen.
You're goddamn right DISCS OF TRON is number one.
I used to love "T-Mek". They had three of those two box cabinets at the local bowling alley all linked together and Id save up my lunch money for an entire week to go down on the weekends and play it. In retrospect not really a great game but I loved it at the time.

You guys had a healthier Lucky and Wild relationship than my buddy and me. I always insisted on driving and firing one of the guns, so mostly I just wrecked the car and wasted our money really fast.
I'll also add in my love for T-Mek, and my absolute befuddlement on what exactly I was supposed to do in Time Traveler.
I'd also like to add that the type in the thread title makes me think of some sort of video game revolutionary.....or coffee server.

It took several trips to the local mall and a LOT of money for us to reach that relationship level...there was no friendship whatsoever on Street Fighter II, T-mek and King of Fighters '98.
Okay, I have to ask of all of you: What was your most memorable arcade experience?
Mine's a tie between finally beating Strider, and that glorious day when I kicked my big brother's ass at Virtua Fighter infront of a crowd of onlookers...Xbox Live will never capture that kind of feeling, IMO.

A nice list until it left of Tempest.

FAIL.
