I figure The Condemned's an even bigger waste of space, but hey, you can't judge a book by it's cover.

....

Most of my queue is filled with movies my parents dragged to when I was younger or I just don't remember. Stuff like Sense and Sensibility, The English Patient, Men of Honor, The Rainmaker, Apollo 13, etc. etc. I've seen these, I just can't say I remember much and I'm now going back to revisit them. I pride myself on having seen a lot of older movies though, thanks to TCM as well as my grandmother's VHS collection which we inherited.

Now I have an HD package and I go through movies I DVR faster than the ones I Netflix. Every once in a while I throw in a wild card at the top, a movie I know nothing about and get purely on recommendation. I remember Devin did a write-up on some movie he rented called Singapore Sling. I didn't read the rest of his article, I just tossed it in hoping to be surprised. A few weeks later I started watching it, knowing nothing about it. Holy shit, that's all I have to say about that movie.
I have a bunch of stuff at home or in the circuit. I have the 8 at a time, and I go through them fast, so Netflix throttles my ass a lot. Plus, there are movies I get and then never get to, or movies I watch and am unable to handle at that point, like Funny Games or that Paradise Lost docu.

Anyway, here's my top 20 not at home:

What the #$*! Do We Know!? (this is for a friend)
Body Heat
The Tudors: Season 1: Disc 2
Leave Her to Heaven

Hill Street Blues: Season 2: Disc 1

I have 335 in my queue and 3 out at a time. It's a weekend thing for me. I get my three (hopefully) on friday and watch stuff on the weekend, drop them off Monday morning. I tend to rearrange about 4 times during the week to make sure I get stuff I want. I've been watching two TV shows and movie for awhile, trying to clean all those series discs off.

Damages Disc 1 arrives this week.
The Wind That Shakes the Barley
Slings and Arrows Season 1 Disc 1 both should land returned tomorrow.

Rocket science (which is out next week)
3:10 To Yuma

Is there anyway around the throttling issue? Because I don't believe for a minute that Netflix doesn't stock plenty of these so-called "Long Waits." I go through movies pretty fast, but not like same-day fast.
I should Netflix Damages, I know one of the minor actors in it. She's had major work done, but still.

Does anyone rent Blu-Rays on Netflix, or should I say attempt to rent them? Seems new releases are impossible to get. I've had Across the Universe and 30 Days of Night in there since they both came out and both are still Long Wait. I had We Own The Night in there and recently just changed it to DVD and it immediately went to available. For a company that went Blu exclusive like a month ago, they sure haven't done much with it.

I snagged a few blu-rays of new releases, but only when I send back discs on a Saturday and Netflix receives them on the Monday prior to the film being released. Otherwise, forget about it. Even a film like Mr. Magorium will probably sit in my queue and fluctuate between Long Wait and Real Long Wait for lord knows how long. Like you did, on films I really want to see I'll change from Blu to standard after a few weeks and they wait time will plummet.

In Old Chicago
The Dawning
Johnny Was
The Racket
The Field
The Informer
Flick
The Devil’s Own
Veronica Guerin
The Molly Maguires

10th And Wolf
Mystic River
This Thing Of Ours
Miller’s Crossing
Things Change
American Me

Naturally there's a pair of running themes in there haha. After the hundred-odd movies that make up this section I go 100% spaghetti westerns, then a shitload of Golden Age and Hammer horror, then a lotta Giallo and cult horror movies, and then every remaining movie I haven't seen on the IMDB top 250.

I don't understand how the 8 at a time is beneficial, unless you can burn through 3 discs or so a day.
I like having stuff in reserve in case the turnaround time is slow. I'd be getting throttled either way.
This has been a problem I've been pondering. I always have something to watch because I have Netflix+Free rentals at work. Once I quit this summer I'll either have to pay through the ass to upgrade or find a cheap alternative. Plus, new releases are a bitch to get on Netflix. Those 1-dollar-1-Night DVD machines any good?
We have the 6 at a time plan (4 for me 2 for her). My wife and I received our movies for the week yesterday and have already watch 3.5 of them. We'll probably finish up the rest by Tuesday, send those back and get new ones by Friday.
Mostly, there are Ingmar Bergman and Dario Argento films in my queue with a few James Bond films sprinkled in there for good measure.
It's hard for me to get through the 3 in a week. I've got on deck:

Ratatouille (Blu-Ray)
Meet the Robinsons (Blu-Ray)
They're Playing With Fire (80s buried gold!)
Fulltime Killer
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (Blu-Ray)

Yeah but even then, you're not really enjoying the film, you're just trying to get through them to get the value of spending 50 bucks a month. I get 2 a month unlimited, perfect amount. One movie a night consistently, and I don't have to spend more than 15 bucks.
The 8 at a time is good if you are sharing your account with several people. College roommates tend to use this one or families with kids.

This isn't the case for me, because as I mentioned, I'd be getting throttled anyway with the amount of movies I watch. With 8, I feel like I can take my time and still watch a lot of movies. Also, it's great for TV series.

Weirdly, I've got Transformers and Cronenberg's Crash near the top of my queue, too. I haven't made it to a D.C. Chewers event yet, but that won't stop me from crashing Frank's house to watch those two...what a double feature.

At home now is one of the middle disks from the final season of Deadwood, plus Walk the Line and Point Blank ('67).

Rounding out the top 10 is like a "greatest hits" of CHUD recommendations:
Pan's Labyrinth
Zodiac (I hear it's good)
Eastern Promises

It's seriously great. I'm really nervous how they're going to translate it to film, though. Plus, this has the all-star cast of just recently famous British actors: John Simm, David Morrisey, Phillip Gleineister, Kelly McDonald, Polly Walker, James MacAvoy, and Bill Nighy, stealing every scene he's in. Okay, I'll stop now.
