The CHUD Community Thread

Thread Starter
Just want to ask a question, but I figured I might as well start a thread where people can discuss the "community", announce new groups, blogs or whatever...

Anyway, my question: for anyone using Safari, how the hell do I get rid of that warning message? It says set Safari Warnings to False, but I have no idea where to find that...
Can anybody actually get into the thing?

I think so. I've signed up, and there seem to be some blogs up...
I still can't.
Every time I submit the form it takes me right back to the form page with the fields blank.
I've signed up for the community, but it seems the default font color is the same as the field you are in. Example, when typing in my username it defaulted to white, and I had to swipe over it to see that I had entered anything. I also tried to load some photos, but when I went to upload image the next page was just blank.
I noticed that too, but it still won't submit. It just goes back to the same page. It's a hiccup, I'm sure it will get worked out.
Logged in, under the name BrendanMLeonard, and even posted a blog.
the community is a priority for us to get working, trust me.

Glad to hear that Nick. I'm very interested in starting up a blog and writing about films, and other random nonsense. The writing bug has hit me again, as it does every few years, and I've always avoided starting a blog in a community that I felt it didn't/wouldn't fit.

Same here.
I kept getting the same thing, then someone said you couldn't use spaces in your user name. So I used RichardDickson and bang, got right in.

Maybe people could write what name they're using, if it's not the same as on the board. Who's this "RennBrown" who's written, like, 70 blogs?
For the record I am JamesMay, because thats my real name. As far as it goes and the promise of things to come, it looks like this will be a very cool addition to this site.
I think i was just able to log in and post something.
No spaces in the user name and those fields go blank once you're done with them. But it went through.

ElTati obviously.
Worked for me too. Trick is, don't use ANYTHING but the alpha keys when creating your login. I kept trying C.Swicegood, didn't work. CSwicegood did without the period.
Yup, it works. No spaces in your username. Naturally, mine's JustinClark.
I tried Diva and it wouldn't let me. So I used my real name. I am unable to change any of my account settings though (e.g., profile pick & info). It just brings me to a blank page.
I was able to sign up yesterday and post a blog, but am unable to add pictures or edit my settings. User name is Rob_Hughes but at the moment I'm having trouble adding a new blog.
I got in using LisaNewYork, no spaces, and it let me register with no problem. Put up a tester blog and it was fine. But can't add pictures, an avatar, and can't customize my profile, etc.
Finally got it up and running. Looking forward to e-stalking all of you soon.
I'm interested in doing the blog thing.. but it sounds like I might want to wait a couple days til the kinks get out?

or should I go ahead and do it so no one takes my name?

might as well login now. There's a few people over there.
I suppose my "DARKMITE8" (as a login name) doesn't work because of the all caps or the number?

EDIT: As it doesn't actually do anything when I click the button. It also doesn't tell me what the name/password parameters are or if I left anything out.
I'm now officially joined up under my real name DSimoneaux.

I'm thinking Diva and I had the same problem (low # of characters in login field).

I'm betting there is a 6 character or 8 character minimum for login.
Aw crap, I don't want to use my real name.

I'm a celebrity, you see.

Perhaps you guys are familiar with a little movie called The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford?

Yeah.. Brad Pitt played me in that.

Well, he had the same name as me in that.. ..same first name anyway.

Autographs are $5, pictures go for $10, form an orderly line please, no shoving.

[But seriously, that character minimum sucks if that's accurate. Curse my 5 letter board name!]

When I go to the blog section, the first page shows me "1 - 5 out of 23 Blogs", but there's nothing to click to see the next 5 blogs. Anybody know how to do that?

Also, I'm still getting that fucking Safari warning every time I open a new page.

EDIT: same thing goes for the "All Members" page. I can see the first 9, but there's nothing I can click to see the next 9.

Same here. And I tried with my Forum name, Jan_Travolta, JanTravolta. It just blanks out again. I don´t even get an Error-message or something.

To the people who successfully logged in, what browser are you using? Is this maybe a Firefox problem? Would suck, because I don´t want to get near IE.
I'm using IE and haven't had a single problem so far.
Besides the non-Alpha, all the names that don't work seem kind of short? Diva, jayf etc.

Is there a min lenght to the user names?
I'm guessing 6 because Eileen made it in.
I made it in and I'm using IE, so those are probably the requirements.

(I can check to see if there are problems with Firefox when I get home.)
Could it have been set up to let anyone already with a message board account simply port that into a Community account? Unless the point was to separate board personas from Community personas, but that seems like an unnecessary distinction.
Yes. It would be great if people would just keep ther username on their different toys.
Otherwise insanity will break loose if one has three different names for chat, boards and community.
The two systems are made by different companies and use completely different back-end user ID systems. Integrating all the different community functions of the site into a single username would require some software development that I don't think anyone was prepared to do.

Alright, it wasn't the username at all. It was password restrictions. A 5 letter word didn't work, but a longer one (using #s and letters) did. Should have some kind of error warning message for that.

Logged in, I could not update my pic as of yet. And my age/sign are all wrong (31? Leo?). Can I fix that? I chose the correct dates initially. WTF???

Ahhh! Thanks so much Sir!

Now I am in.
I registered a few days ago under the name Brendan. Cryptic, I know. I'll give it a few weeks before I really start to do anything with it. Let everything cool down around here.

Did you? The dates go dd/mm/yyyy. I wouldn't have known except when I tried to put in my birth day (19), the drop down menu only went to 12.
the same thing happened to me when I tried to register earlier.
I couldn't create an account using FF, but was able to using IE. Maybe that's something to try for FF users?

I haven't noticed any differences running between the 2 browsers with whatever functionality there is currently - just with the signing up.
I joined up as Nexus-6. Not sure how much I'll use the blog feature, since I already blog on Myspace and don't want to cannibalize my own stuff, but who knows?
So... who wants to be my friend?!

*crickets*
I don't think the friending feature is currently working - I've tried for the past 2 days and none of my adds seem to do anything.
Wait, we're not allowed to curse in our blogs?
Once the programmers get to this, all you want to do will be allowed.

Rath, as a [sometime] site contributor, you can do a CHUD Blog in addition to or instead of this. Consult Mr. Fischer if that appeals to you.
That might be pretty cool. I'll have to think about it, though, and what angle I'd want to take if I did do that. Possibly rip off Sepinwall and comment on all the TV I watch.

That'd be me.

I would have stayed consistent but since it was a community sort of thing, I figured real name would be better. I'll try and sign things with my MB ID so that people will know (this is assuming of course that anyone would care.)

I loaded up a few of the things I wrote for the Sewer Cewer Newsletter - that's how I got the drop on everyone.
And I am all about the fuckin' author blogs. I think CHUD is about to hit a serious Renaissance, except without all the little boys. Well, maybe more little boys.
I posted my first blog, I would certainly appreciate the input of anyone who reads it. Please keep in mind I am not in anyway a professional writer, and aside from posting here never write anything. Ever. Thanks
post #50 of 63
Trejo doesn't want to take as a username.. and I can't decide between Trejo-fu or Trejaculation.. my real name can only be pronounced in an ancient tongue humans are unable to replicate, low gutteral growls and something that sounds like twisting metal and the tearing of flesh... so there goes that idea

Help!
