I'll promise to play nice.

It's a limited edit. You can't edit past an hour again. Makes it hard to keep up my movie journal.
Why do you need it to last longer than a proofreading session? Just curious.
Do the movie journal when the blogs are setup. Just a suggestion.

From what I can tell from browsing the blogs already up, you can't edit once its posted.

It's too late, Diva. We all read your post about The Joker killing Heath Ledger.

Speaking of which, how the hell do we sign up to create a blog? Every time I try to create an account the form clears out and I'm stuck with an empty form.

SOMEBODY HELP THE STUPID GUY!!!!!

Never mind. Found the community thread. You know, right above this one.

I'd rather have reputation back than this. Even if we all had to start over. It was one of the better ways to judge what impact your posts had.

Where did reputation go? Why are some posts missing but not others? Has anyone posted as to whether these were conscious choices, or whether there's some sort of technical problem?

It will also make your moustache look ridiculous.

Hmmm... not really. I got loaded with rep due to Diva's My Ass thread and another time I made some witty comment. So having lots of positive rep points doesn't mean you're a quality poster.

Having it back wouldn't bother me. What bothered me about was when people wouldn't explain WHY they gave you a neg rep. If they're disagreeing with something you're saying then post about. Or at least explain why.
I'm glad rep is gone. Are peoples feelings really hurt by getting boxes? It would've been cooler if it had actually affected some hierarchy of threads/posts.

Not saying it does. In fact, maybe the public "score" doesn't even have to be there. I did like it, though. when someone would comment on a post I made through the reputation system. Some of those comments weren't vital enough to interrupt the flow of a thread for but still worth expressing.

This kind of 'thumbs up' could still be expressed via PMs (I think) but it seems less likely to happen. I'm not real torn up about its absence and I don't want to get on the team's case about it. I just thought it was a nice feature.

I'm with you. I'm not sure what flyarz is going to do for fun, though.

I agree with this post. Hell, I'd give you pos rep for this... Oh, wait. Seriously, I could care less about the green/red boxes by my name, but I did like being able to give/get quick feedback without having to leave the thread (PMs) or interrupt the flow of thread communication ("Good One"/"You Suck" posts).

Off hand, I'd say "engage in a continued sense of moral and intellectual superiority".
If you want to compliment someone on their postings, send a PM. The rep system was in theory a good idea, but people ruined it.
I still don't see how the rep system was ruined.
Maybe ruined is too strong a word. But it was definitely being misused to drive up rep unfairly and unnecessarily. No disrespect, but your tactical strike experiment pretty much proved it could be done.

I'm guessing some people don't like the fact that many of us had maxed out on green boxes, thus making those less worthy somewhat indistinguishable from our intelligentsia. Hell, I'll freely admit that I got tons of rep from pretty stupid posts that jettisoned my stock upwards. This is, in part, why I don't care if we do away with the green/red boxes. I do dig, however, the convenience of being able to quickly (and privately) comment on someone's post.

Yeah, but so what? Did you actually try to use those boxes to quantify chewers or something?
I liked it because it let me send a hearty lol to a person without interupting the flow of the discussion. Who cares how many red or green boxes people had attached to their profile?
I don't, and I'm kind of embarrased that I'm talking about it this much. I'm just saying, if I had to choose, I'd be pro-no more rep.

However, I agree that the "comment on this post" feature would be one that should stick around. I liked that one.

I somehow lost custom user text and avatar...?

I still don't understand why if you don't care about the boxes but like the instant feedback aspect.
Because I like being able to comment on a post without having to type up a long PM. Which totally contradicts what I said before. I guess if I had to quantify, I'd say "I'm for rep if we stop talking about rep."
I meant, why were you in favor of abolishing it altogether. But you answered that question. I think.
I... I think we're in agreement here.
Well, shit.
Now what do we do?

But it might.

I had just max'ed out before the revamp, and I'd like to think it was largely on the quality of my posts. I was kind of proud of that. I go out of my way to not be snarky, and post interesting threads, particularly on Creature Corner. i think I was only motivated to neg rep twice, and that was before I had 4 greenies of my own to do any harm with anyway. Also, I think rep was a large part of the reason we all have our circles of friends. Surely not the only reason, but I know I like to go around after it's come around and be good to those who've been good to me, when they do something cool.

Then again, rep was what caused the Crisis on Infinite CHUD Boards, so maybe its demise is a good thing after all.
I'd like to echo Iggy here.
Thank you.
Me three, Iggy. Another thing I liked about the rep system was it, in a nutshell, gave you an immediate visual on who was generally respectable and who might be questionable. For instance, seeing the red boxes next to Don Piano before I'd read any of his posts was a nice tip-off that other people thought he was a waste of time. After reading a few of his posts with an eye towards it, I saw that the majority was totally on the money and added him to my Ignore List right away. Saved me a lot of time reading stupid posts in a bunch of different threads and gradually noticing they were all by the same person.

Plus, I was just starting to get a lot of green boxes and, I'll admit it, I was proud of them.
I can't tell you how many of my rep comments were along the lines of "Spreading rep so I can neg rep ____________ again."

Ahhh, the infamous duke fleed campaign of '07. I abstained from that one, myself.

Yeah, but I'm afraid that I joined in on the SM campaign.
I only got a couple of those greens. I also abstained from both rep nuke mission tactical strikes, but from where I sit and what I've seen, SM deserved his more.

But I made this point in a thread on that subject some time ago, even if you acquired rep in that fashion, it almost certainly wsn't totally random; the person giving you pos rep to neg rep the Swede or the duke or the Don did so (as opposed to just giving it to the 1st Chewer he saw) because for some reason - most likely the quality of your posts, from that person's perspective - they deem you worthy of the rep boost. One thing I learned over the years is that personality, often but not always coupled with ability, is a large part of what gets you where you are in any endeavor; school, work, life in general. No shame in being helped along in that fashion, IMO. And no matter how many you got, it took thousands of rep points to get to the max level. Nuke missions couldn't have been the only thing putting you over the top, if that's where you were.
I liked the rep system because it was a quick way of someone telling me that they appreciated my post without clicking on my name, selecting "Send a PM", typing out a big long note (or a shorter one, but you get the idea), and hitting send. With the rep system, click on approve or disapprove and it was done. Sometimes a comment was left, sometimes not (and true, some of those could have been "I'm leaving you pos rep so I can neg rep someone else", but who knows? If there's no comment left, then it's not carved in stone that this was the intention). I know everyone here has said we can take it to PM, but since that takes longer, I'm not sure everyone will take the time to pull up a PM and type it out. Instead, we may wind up clogging the threads with quoted posts of "Nice one!" I just think the rep system, as long as it's not abused in the ways detailed by those who are glad it's gone, is a cleaner, faster way of telling someone they're appreciated.
Meh.

I had a lot of rep 'cause I'm a dope-ass motherfucker.
Completely agree with Lisa and Iggy.

Although I did get neg rep once just for talking to Duke Fleed. I found that amusing.
Hey, don't feel bad. Despite the fact that I was lucky enough to have reached "Blown someone" status, my first two reps were neg reps. I don't even remember why, but I thought I was toast around here.
at least you won't get neg-repped for talking about rep anymore...
