Has anyone here seen this film? I'm curious if it's worth buying blind.

I've seen it. I was interning at Corman at the end of the 90's and one of my jobs was to catalog tapes of all their films. I wound up watching The Intruder in its entirety because it was so good, and Shatner is fucking awesome in it. It's also reputedly Corman's favorite of his own films.

I thought it was solid, nothing more. Like all films that deal with racial tension, it involves bigoted characters that get under your skin and aggravate, so you soon find yourself getting involved in the story. Charles Beaumont script does go for the juggular straight from the start with "nigger this" "coon that". I knew what the film was about but still, to hear an elderly lady within the first five minutes proclaim "i do believe that old boy has nigger blood in him" did have its desired effect. I was pretty shocked.

Shatner is great as the agitator. I don't think i've ever seen his grin look so crooked and deceiving and he's just as strong when the charming facade is dropped and he's forced to reveal how pathetic and weak his character really is. It's quite the brave performance from him.
