We've been using Sound Miner to dig for FX at the studio for a while now but it's freakin' expensive and buggy as shit. We just ran a test of Snapper by Audio Ease and it held up to some pretty rigorous trials. It's free for 100 days (fully functional) and only 79 bucks.
I apologize if this sounds like a shill but it's a pretty sweet deal and will help if you're doing FX in either Pro Tools or auditioning sounds for use in AVID or Final Cut.
