New Beverly Schedule (Commando at midnight!) - Page 2

Marilyn Chambers tribute screening at midnight. I hate all of you.
Damn. I'd go but my trench coat is at the dry cleaners.
I will be in LA from July 26 - August 1.

Stunt Rock is playing on July 31. Let's do this.

Fair enough. I'll see if I can make it.

The Irene Dunne double feature is more to my taste.

What time do people tend to start lining up for a midnight show? Or can I go get a ticket when the BO opens or what? Someone help a tourist out.
In the past I've just gotten tickets when the BO opens, but I haven't been to any midnight showings at the New Bev (just the Nuart), so I'll shut up since you were asking about midnight showings.

Depends on the film, I remember showing up for Roadhouse about 45 minutes prior and no one was really there. However a huge line formed about 20 mimuntes later.

I'd say give it about a half hour to 45 minutes at most for special stuff. But for lesser stuff? You'd could probably show up ten minutes before. The only other reason why you'd want to show up early is because it can be a bitch to find street parking.
Yeah, I'd say give it 30 minutes before showtime AFTER parking.

STUNT ROCK is terrible. Just a warning.
Killjoy. So I shouldn't save you a seat?
Evil Dead Triple Feature!
August 28 & 29

Never seen any of these projected. Time to change that.
Yeah, my head kinda blew up when I saw that announced on FB.
I'll be there with my boomstick

...and I of course mean my penis.

They promise to get new seats if they get 3000 facebook fans. Add them!
So, who's going to Movie Orgy tomorrow? How early are you going to show up?
New seats went in on Wednesday, they're great. I'll definitely be there tomorrow.
I'm going an hour early and I hope that that's enough time to get a seat. I unfortunately work until 4:15.
I'm in town on vacation, and am tempted to make a day of it. 4pm seems early enough to me-- yesterday the line started at 6 for a 7:30 show. Valentine's Day Massacre was genuinely good and Corman was in fine form after.
Sucks that they don't do the Movie Orgy more than once.
Well, that was the second screening of it. And it went AWESOME.
People joked that they could play it again post Gremlins, and I'd have been tempted. Particularly as I had a group of friends show up at midnight wanting to know how the Orgy was. I told them that if it plays again, they are dropping everything.
I desperately want this fucking thing to go on a roadshow, as I just couldn't afford an L.A. trip right now. Goddamnit.
THE MOVIE ORGY was such a blast. The clips from Speed Crazy alone made it all worthwhile.
While I agree, Ratty, there was alot of greatness in that. I LOVED the "Sensitive people need gentle medicine" ads. The last one was amazing.
"She can cook. That's more than most of them can do."

Incredible. I'd watch it again today.
I was mesmerized by that Andy Devine clip of the cat and mouse band. Just a perfect mix of hilarious/creepy.

This was the best way to watch cheese like The Giant Claw and Attack of the 50-Foot Woman. The full-length version of those types of films are usually a chore.
Second time seeing it, 100% brilliant all around, especially with the new additions. Speed Crazy and "At least she can cook" still kills, but the College Confidential stuff intercut with "My dog Checkers" is the secret weapon. And where the hell did he find that footage of the sleazy NYC guy's brutal evisceration of the Church? I wouldn't be surprised if one of his buddies shot that. I sincerely hope this becomes an annual event for the New Beverly.
God, so much to love. I kind of wish that the midnight movie had been Matinee, since so many bits from the Orgy are quoted/reprised in it. That whole Art Linklater "white rats" thing, the "Why, why?/I don't know, I don't know" bit from the locust movie.

Really, I want to know more about that Bufferin campaign. Shit was ahead of its time.

So this was a five hour clip show?
It's the Birth Of A Nation to modern mash-ups.
It should honestly be taught as a class to anyone wanting to edit comedy.

No.
This is driving me nuts, does anyone remember what rock song was played early on, before House Of The Rising Sun, before the Beatles, before War Babies?
I recall excessively sanitized versions of "Runaround Sue" and "Hound Dog". Then there were the awful pseudo-rock numbers from Speed Crazy and College Confidential.
Runaround Sue, there we fuckin' go! Thankee sir.
Yer welcome. Attending tonight?
I wish. It's been a lean summer unfortunately, and my three movie ticket purchases for the month are Basterds, District Nine, and the Indiana Jones trilogy.
Stormin- you should buy yourself a discount card the next time you are flush with cash. It's 36 bucks and good for 8 showings. Only negative is it's not valid for Grindhouse/midnight or triple feature showings.
It's not the trilogy, it's just Raiders and Temple.

Tonight was amazing; MATINEE is a masterpiece. I'm not comfortable calling it Dante's best film, I'll settle for calling it his most personal. And MIRACLE MILE is one of those great small movies.
Fuck. I'd always take the Bev over the Omega House Egyptian, but I can't not have any Last Crusade, this probably being one of the only opportunities to see all three of them on the big screen.
The real problem here is that with one show each per day, you can't choose which order to view the films. I'd prefer to get Doom out of the way first.

P.S. After the late show of Miracle Mile last night? Mant!
Goddamnit I knew I should have gone yesterday.
Regarding the Indy trilogy: Raiders, Doom and Crusade will be playing together at the Egyptian on August 22.
Both Cold Turkey and The President's Analyst were terrific. Dante related a story about Paramount pulling Analyst out of theaters, because of the thinly-veiled spoof of J. Edgar Hoover in the film.

Cold Turkey plays like a prototype Coen Brothers comedy.
The 'missive' from Theodore Flicker was the highlight of the night.

And the Cold Turkey print was gorgeous.

I heard that song on the radio last night, and the image of the Nazis bouncing up and down to it came into my head. What a great image to forever be associated with that song!
