Knight Rider 2008

"Knight Rider - A shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist. Michael Knight, a young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless, in a world of criminals who operate above the law."

February 17 marks the return of Knight Rider in a tv-movie that may serve as a pilot for a new series. It's a continuation of the campy series with that new guy being Hoff's son. Hoff has a cameo, so has the old KITT. The new one is a Mustang with all kinds of new features... but seemingly without turbo boost.

I don't know why, but during work I've lately been revisiting the original series. It's easy to see why kids loved it. Hoff was quite charismatic and his banters with the car and Devon were as fun as the ridiculous action sequences and hand-to-hand fights. Also, some bizarre stuff. Hoff clone. Possessed Hoff. Hoff under the influence. Singing, dancing Hoff.

Certainly no one can replace the persona that is the Hoffster, but maybe this new series is worth something. At least better than Bionic Woman and Connor Chronicles. What do you think?

Will Arnett is the new voice of KITT. I'll tune into the tv movie just to see what they have him saying, but nothing else is really exciting me about this.
If that's him in the commercial it's like Will Arnett trying to do a tough guy voice. It's not bad, but I can't stop imagining GOB trying to be badass.
GOBB as KITT? Colour me skeptical. Also I am not that impressed by the new Mustag KITT.

Nevertheless, I'll definitely be watching it if it ever comes here in Singapore.

Chris Myers, I just read a preview of NBC's new Knight Rider on comingsoon.net, there is a website as well. I cannot wait to see if NBC can make a good sequel to one of the classic tv series ever...Knight Rider. Knight Rider is one of my all time fave series. So I hope NBC will produce a new Knight Rider series as good as the classic original. The cast looks solid and the actor playing Michael Knight's son seems like a good choice as well. The only question I have is who plays Bonnie originaly portrayed by Patricia McPherson? To me the choice of the Shelby Mustang 500 GT as the new K.I.T.T. was an exceptional choice, as the new mustang designed by Carol Shelby ( designer of the Shelby Cobra during the 1960's) is a truly fantastic car. It also sounds like that the series will have a similar tone to the original...unlike what happened with Battlestar Galactica, and The Bionic Woman. I read an article with Glen A. Larson a few months ago in the british magazine Sci Fi Now, where he said...Knight Rider was a modern interpretation of The Lone Ranger. I hope this new Knight gets a green light for a few seasons before Riding into the sunset.
Wait. Lone Ranger? So it's racist? Fuck you duke fleed for wanting this.
Ive never been a huge fan of the Mustang, mostly because in Florida at least, those things are a dime a dozen but from the commercials KITT is actually starting to grow on me. I dont have any clearly definable reason for this, it just seems slightly less absurd as time goes by. I do like it better without the super shiny and insanely lame Cobra logo on front now that its just all black. Maybe its a lesser degree(slightly) of product placement that I like, maybe Im just drinking more than I used to...who knows?
Neoolong, The Lone Ranger is not racist. Knight Rider features a hero and his mighty steed (K.I.T.T.) bringing law to the lawless just like The Lone Ranger. The Lone Ranger is also the grandfather of...The Green Hornet. John Reid was the last surviving Ranger in a sneak attack orchastrated by ex Ranger Burt Cavandash. Reid was saved by Tonto an Indian Scout who would become his sidekick, and together astride their horses Silver and Scout fought evil in the old west. Britt Reid took up his grandfathers mantle as...The Green Hornet. He and Kato (played by Bruce Lee) fought crime while driving their specially equipped car...Black Beauty

Just came in!

Val Kilmer has just replced Will Arnett as the voice of KITT! Due to contractual difficulties with GM (which Arnett has a contract with), GOB has just been forced out.

I hope he goes Gay Perry on this.

Aw hell, I would watch every episode of a Knight Rider series in which Mr. Bananagrabber was the voice of KITT.

So Fleed, what's your take on Kilmer?
My reaction to Kilmer's signing is the same as Moe's.

For a TV-movie, they're sure pimping the hell out of it. Still, I suppose the kid in me will watch.
I watched some scenes the other day. It looks like crap. I mean really, really bad. So don't get your hopes up. Sorry to be a downer, but I don't want anyone getting too excited.
So, when are we finally going to get that K.I.T.T. vs. The General Lee movie we've all secretly carried a torch for, lo, these many years? What? Just me? Oh, ok.

Change the General Lee to the truck from Maximum Overdrive and then you have my attention.

Other than fleed, I don't think anyone was in danger of getting overexcited about a new Knight Rider.
Well there's no helping fleed. I thought it might be fun, but after what I watched the answer is: No, it won't be fun.
Tati, I think Kilmer should be fine as K.I.T.T.

Misfit...there is no danger in getting really excited over the new Knight Rider as if it is a hit, that launches a season order...then along with The Unit, and Chuck there will actually be 3 good series to watch.

Mattioli, If there were a K.I.T.T. Vs The General Lee film it would be cool. The important question is...who would be the new Daisy Duke and Bonnie K.I.T.T.'s Mechanic?
K.I.T.T. = Kilmer's In The Trunk
I doubt this is getting picked up for a new season. Then again what do I know, Americans tend to like crap which goes back to Devin's THUD column the other day.

KITT already went up against a super-powered semi (piloted by a goateed evil twin Hoff) in the original series. I think that was a two-parter. And if I remember correctly...NBC pulled out their wallet and paid for the Stones' "Gimme Shelter" in that episode.

Alright, I've embarrassed myself enough with the richness of my Knight Rider knowledge.
Jefelee, K.I.T.T. went up against Goliath and Garth Knight twice. K.I.T.T. vs K.A.R.R. was another epic episode. My favorite ep was the 3rd ep of season 1 when Michael and K.I.T.T. vs a motorcycle gang in a town where the cowardly sheriff constantly arrests Michael instead of trying to stop the gang from destroying the town.

Casey Moore, The original Knight Rider is a classic. If you don't like it why watch the new one.

During work I've now seen all original Knight Rider episodes and clearly, the new series doesn't need much to reach it's prior "quality".

In the final season Hoff gets to fight Robert Englund in the Universal Studios, also, Ninjas, Ken Foree, Nicholas Worth in a tank and for fucks sake, Commando's VERNON WELLS. That made me happy.

B-movie sparks aside, the rest is quite lame. Bad stories, bad fights, tons of repetitions (e.g. in the final season Kitt gets to have Super Pursuit Mode - up to 300mph - and from that moment on, they use it in every fucking episode) and a lot less fun your nostalgia might lead you to believe.

I have to agree with this. The series was never good in any straightforward way. It was fun because of how absurd it was, but that was about it. It's a holdover from the 80's that people are nostalgic about.

Hell, at least Viper had a car with missile launchers and shit. Even if it didn't talk.
To each his or her own...but I bought all 4 seasons of Knight Rider, and to me it is a great series worthy of anyones top 5 list. It had great characters, action, car chases, evil villains, and a good amount of humor, what is not to like about Knight Rider. I hope the new Tv film lives up to the standard that Glen A. Larson and Bruce Lansbury created 26 years ago...a true classic.
Anyone here seen VIPER? It's a Knight Rider Clone that looks very similar to the Knight Rider 2008 coming out next week.

Never seen Viper, but I saw about one episode of Team Knight Rider and the tv movie Knight Rider 2000 - both beyond awful (though X-Files' Skinner does chew major scenery in there. Man I miss that guy).

There's another tv movie I've never seen, Knight Rider 2010. It seemingly has NOTHING to do with the rest, but still someone thought it'd be cool to use that name for a flick. Some kind of Road Warrior in bad.
Actually, now that title kind of sucks. I mean, 2010 is in two years. And are you saying that Road Warrior is bad? Is that what you're really saying here?

Viper was neat for its time. Both of them. It was Saturday afternoon action tv. You go in with low expectations and you're entertained.
Ign.com has the trailer to Knight Rider. Also included is some behind the scenes work. Hopfully NBC's new Knight will Ride to the top of the ratings charts allowing the K.I.T.T. 3000 to race to a green light for a series commitment from the network. Only 8 days till Knight Rider.
Don't hassle the Hoff.

haha this should be exciting.
I'll be giving this a try.

But KITT here looks terribles, and the Stars are from some Day Time Soap so I am not exactly keeping my hopes up.

Collider.com has 5 clips of the new Knight Rider on their site today...very cool indeed. Hopefully Knight Rider will get a season order. The fact that the new Knight Rider is a sequel to the classic original works much better than the weak updates of The Bionic Woman and Flash Gordon that NBC/Universal has attempted.

Val Kilmer seems a little off though as the voice of the KITT.
I have a comment, but first a story:

When I was four, the brass at the local JC Penney wanted me to be in a fashion show for their formal wear (yes, I was quite the cute lil' scamp; lord knows what happened). My folks were very excited, Mom especially (Dad I think was a little leary what, uh, the experience might do to me). I was excited to do it. My little girlfriend at the time, Stephanie H., was going to be in it with me and would be my date. The morning of the show came, and I sat backstage in a little white tux made for a four-year-old. And like the four-year-old I was, I changed my mind about everything and refused to go on stage. Would not budge. But everyone's here to see you, Mom was saying. Nope, not going. But you said you would! Nope, not going. But your girlfriend will be there, and she looks very pretty in her dress. Girls are gross. Not doing it. Mom and Dad were not ones to bribe, but were not above doing so in desperation. The show was about to go on, and I needed to be out there, if for no other reason than symmetry. Finally, Mom said what I needed to hear. You know that Knight Rider Big Wheel you've been asking for? Go on... If you go out there, we'll stop at Toys R Us on our way home and get it for you.

There is now a picture on my Mom's shelf of me at four years old, black hair in my eyes, in a shining white tuxedo, standing among smiles and flash bulbs at the end of a stage in a Jackson, Tennessee JC Penney.

The point is, when I was four years old I literally whored myself out for Knight Rider.

That's the long way of saying that I've not been expecting much from this newest incarnation of the show. My hopes for it were dashed the second I read that Will Arnett, and not William Daniels, would be the voice of KITT. The show was so silly, and Daniels infused that fucking car with unexpected humanity. I was more encouraged to hear that Kilmer had been hired, but with the clip I heard my hopes were dashed once again. He's completely flat, a human talking like a computer. KITT's not fucking Joshua. The whole key to the success of the original show was that KITT and Michael had what appeared to be, quite impossibly, a friendly relationship. Daniels was essential to that. Kilmer's a pro but he doesn't seem to get it, at least not at first glance.

So while I'd finally allowed myself to be excited about this, my four-year-old self refuses to watch.

I can't believe I just wrote this long a post about KNIGHT RIDER.

I can't believe you were a JCPenny model at the tender age of 4.

That Knight Rider Big Wheel was sweet, however. It had a hand brake so you could do rad slide-outs. My General Lee Big Wheel had more street cred, though.

Knight Rider Tomorrow at 9pm.
I may watch a little of this, or tape it, just to see Kilmer do the voice...

Oh wait, up against 'The Wire.' Anyone who watches this instead of that is a giant bucket of sadness.
I've seen the guy who plays the lead in other things. He's a dead fish. There's not even a Josh Duhamel level of charisma there.
Here're 5 clips of the TV Movie.

Check it out!

Val Kilmer sounds like hes doing his best robot voice impersonation from the commercials Ive seen, which is odd since the last KITT just sounded like Micheal kept a natural sounding british guy on speaker phone alot. So basically, everything about the car is far advanced from the original, except for the voice...thats where the budget at Knight Industries came up short.
Tonight we see if one man can make a difference...again. On this Knight I hope the winning Rider of tonights ratings race is NBC's new Knight Rider pilot.

RathBandu, I hope you enjoy The Wire...but I find that The Wire is not half as good as classics like T.J. Hooker or Hunter...clearly the 2 best cop shows ever.

Now...that's a highly original opinion.

I think considering the hype for the Knight Rider movie, the ratings for it should be fairly high and now that the Writer's Strike is over, the new TV Series is sure to be greenlighted (though I suspect they had always intended to greenlight it, no matter the performance of the pilot).

These posts are some kind of performance art piece, right?

im actually pretty curious if they are going to keep the music the same, because they damn better.

i hate the new american gladiator theme, so nondescript...the old one is classic.

NBC will probably fuck the music up for Knight Rider also though.

oh well...we'll always have the 80s

This is the funniest (and stupidest) thing I've heard, probably ever.

I hope you enjoy a quick, dumb, nostalgia trip. Rath and I will enjoy actual television.
