Knight Rider 2008 - Page 2

Halofan1, Then The Wire is not on an actual television? Also, I hope my trip lasts at least 26 episodes during the 2008-2009 season...unless that gets derailed by an actors strike.

I dug it.. I want some more of it.

Doug Liman's Knight Rider has a few kinks that need to be worked out, if it gets the green light for a season order. Less problematic family relationships, more action, with a clear mission. The pilot did not need 2 hours...90 minutes would have sufficed. However Justin Bruening fits the part well, and the new K.I.T.T. is fantastic. The Shelby Mustang 500GTKR is so far the best part of the pilot. Val Kilmer's voice is perfect for the new K.I.T.T. and the car and new Knight Rider work well together. Hopefully turbo boost will be added to K.I.T.T.'s arsenal. While the hip hop version of Stu Phillips classic theme is not perfect...it is growing on me. Hopefully NBC will bring this Knight back to Ride in Fall 2008.

So given that Michael Knight was kind of like a modern day knight, and given that his name is Mike Traceur, does that mean he does parkour?

I don't know if that would be awesome or not. And other than the dumbness of having the character be Mike Knight (Jr.) why does he have a different last name than his dad? He takes his mom's name or something?

It's not bad so far, and Val Kilmer isn't annoying (though he deserves better work, get back together with Mamet), but it seems rather lightweight. I know that they can't go around killing people all willy nilly, but it seems like there are opportunities for them to take out their enemies, but don't. It just keeps them in danger so why? It's the 21st century. Jack Bauer can go vampire on people, but KITT can't even run into a guy shooting at him and his passenger?

With nothing else on, I would watch it. But, this is taking away Rock Band time that I can't get back.

Wow, I think that was probably the most coherent post you have made on the boards, duke. Bravo.

Okay, so does the nano thing add mass to the car? Because an SUV going full out into a Mustang, even with the MBS, is going to lay that fucker out, even if the thing stays intact. Or do the laws of physics no longer apply?

It's a Sci-fi show, Neo. It doesn't have to make sense.

You're reading too many Marvel comics.

This show is craptacular.

bad
The whole thing looked more like VIPER than Knight Rider to me. Especially the car morphing.
I fell asleep sometime after Vegas and woke up at the end when the Hoff was saying he was daddy. This moved too slow, and the Ford commercials drove me nuts.
I didn't think it was horrible. The car morphing is a bit stupid though. I do like the color change though. I'd give it a go if NBC picks it up this Fall.
Car morphing? Looks like I missed all the fun!
Not really. If your goal was to make a fun stupid show..........then do that. Show had almost no action. Just alot of long shots of Willard running and Val Carmer driving.
The problem I had with this new Knight Rider is that the first 90 minutes the hero, his Mom his ex gal pal, her Dad, are on the run from the bad guys, and in the last 15 min the new Knight Rider Mike Traceur defeats the villains in a scene ripped out of the videogame Burnout, meets his Dad, and joins the new Foundation Of Law And Government now financed by the FBI.

I think that the new heroes name is not Knight because that wasn't his Dad's name, til he joined FLAG. Also, the filmmakers might not have remembered that Michael Knight was originally Michael Long.

Honestly, the original show had a lot of that happening too. Viper had least had a car with machine guns and missiles.

NBC's Knight Rider takes the top spot Sunday Night!

"ABC grabbed the biggest audience on Sunday night, but NBC's updating of "Knight Rider" helped the Peacock to a demographic victory. "Knight Rider" delivered a 7.3/12 (and a healthy 5.1 adults 18-49 rating) for NBC."

Wait, Knight Rider debuted?

I'm sorry, I was busy watching 31 days of Oscars on TCM to pay attention.
BillyLove, According to the New York Daily News tV guide Knight Rider will reair on Saturday night on NBC at 9 PM.
I don't understand what the big deal is... I remember the pilot for the first Knight Rider and for that matter, the Team Knight Rider and this was a ton better. Sure, it drags in spots, there's exposition and crap but the elements are there for a nice fun, mindless hour of television. Kilmer's KITT is fantastic. The new Hoff isn't devoid of life and the new bonnie is super hot. The FORD plugs gave me confidence the Human \ Car buddy cop chemistry is there and they can get it right plus the last 15 minutes worked. Now that they got writers I'm sure the first 'real' episode will rock. After all I think they were stuck with this being a 'finished' script and couldn't polish it up due to the strike.

The only part that fell apart for me was when KITT was being shot up because he was offline, since after all the original series it was like a spray that made the car invulnerable or something.. seemed kinda lame.

Now if they just had another illegitimate son of Michael Knight's being the bad guy behind this whole thing, that would be gold.
I don't think it's so bad, but I do think it just doesn't make me, as an adult, want to watch it during primetime. It just seems like an updated Saturday afternoon tv show like Supercop, but I really don't watch those anymore.

As for the car's invulnerability, what happened to the formula that was used to make the original KITT bulletproof? It seems like they should have used that underneath the nanomite repair system. It was lame, as Snaieke said.
Oddly, I can accept the bizarre sci fi elements like self repairing cars alot easier than I can believe that a Focus is in anyway able to keep up with a 500 horsepower car on a mostly empty road. Even a standard Cobra should have been able to win that race without any problems and yet the bad guys stayed right on their tale for an extended period of time.

The molecular bonding shell was destroyed by a Hassellhoff lookalike villian named Garth in the Original Series. Remember Goliath? The Monster truck. KITT was heavily damaged and Bonnie replaced the Molecular shell with extra Turbo boost instead.

I am indifferent on the series. I'll probably watch it as some harmless fluff.
I sort of remember that part. So, basically the formula is lost then since they don't reapply it. That makes sense I guess.

Though the use of a computer controlled armor when they talked about not using fancy tech like hydrogen fuel cells or other such power sources is kind of ironic, even if it is necessary.
Snaieke, Don't get me wrong...I enjoyed the new Knight Rider, however the worst part of the telefilm was when they were telling the new hero about his past as the bad guys were surrounding them instead of having Sarah mention it earlier. Now that FLAG has been re-formed maybe the filmmakers can concentrate on producing enough action i.e. car chases, an occasional bar fight, or having Mike rescue a damsel in distress. It would be preferable than learning Mike and his Mom don't talk, Sarah doesn't talk with her Dad, or that Dr Graiman and Mike's Mom had an agreement that he would raise her son since Michael Knight was busy saving the US from it's enemies.

As I recall, the formula for the Molecular bonding Armour was divided into two parts. Devon had one and another person had the other. No one had the complete formula.

Garth managed to obtain Devon's portion and managed to devise a chemical spray that nullified KITT's armour. The person who had the other half was killed.

As a result, the formula was lost for good.

It could have been worse. But also, better. Let's give it a try for 2-3 eps.

I thought this was really horrible. I only watched half, but decided I'll be watching my Lost season 3 DVD instead of finishing it.

Does anyone read Maxim? If so...buy the September Issue with Anna Kournikova. Not only are there pictures of her...there are 4 or 5 pics of one of the best reasons to watch Knight Rider...Deanna Russo. Instead of the whiny, gal pal of the new Micheal Knight...she kicks ass and takes names, as a martial artist par excellence, as well as a dead shot with a sniper rifle. That is another way to improve on the original Knight Rider...add run n' gun action, a beautiful side kick, and a K.I.T.T. 3000 that transforms into other vehicles. Since Deanna Russo has a featured role in the action maybe she should get her own vehicle as well. She could ride a missile firing motorcycle ala Street Hawk, on missions where more firepower is needed. The new Maxim is also the NFL preview issue, and several cheerleaders are featured, including a Miami Dolphin gal.

I'm not the mindless bashing troll type, but seriously, this was fucking hideous. Just awful on every conceivable level. Not even in a fun trashy way like the original, just plain BAD.

That having been said, I'll be checking out the new show, because I'm a sucker like that.

Although...

"The show will update the characters and premise first introduced in a television movie/backdoor pilot that aired on NBC in February. Bruening's character has been given a mysterious past involving his experiences in the Iraq War, and he will have disdain for Blackwater personnel in particular."

So... he's now Jake from Jericho?
Dr. Murder, No...He is Michael Knight, a defender of Justice...proving once again..."One man can make a difference" Wilton Knight in Knight Rider: Knight Of The Phoenix, from Glen A Larson's classic television series...Knight Rider 82.

Of course this Knight does not ride alone, as Deanna Russo supplies martial arts expertise, and sniper skills along with the secret base that is The Foundation For Law And Government, and their various support team and vehicles.
I was being facetious.

Michael Knight has "a mysterious past involving his experiences in the Iraq War" and "disdain for Blackwater personnel".

Jake Green (from Jericho) has a mysterious past involving his experiences in the Iraq War and disdain for Ravenwood personnel. Ravenwood being a TV version of Blackwater.

Fleed trying to drum up more publicity for the show?
The first episode is currently available on Hulu here, and oh boy is it a stinker. Can't really think of any redeeming qualities at the moment, although I found it amusing that Billy from Battlestar Galactica is in it playing a character named, appropriately, Billy.
Watched 30 mins. I wasn't bored, but it's certainly not must-see TV. Kilmer's pretty funny. And The girls are hot, especially Paula Garces. Lets hope Dutchman shows up and spys her banging knight or something.
I would like to see someone eliminate Billy. Maybe the director of Knight Industries could kill him before he gets exposed for being...EEEEEEEEEvil. To me there are alot of high points in the first part.
1) The action is kick ass.
2) Deanna Russo is beautiful when she is kicking ass, in her underwear, and jump starting her relationship with Mike Tracer...who is now re-born as...Michael Knight.
3) The fact that there is an EEEEEvil villain for Michael Knight and K.I.T.T. to take down eventually.
4) Just like Michael Bay's Transformers...K.I.T.T. is more than meets the eye...because of his new Transformations. Maybe K.I.T.T. can eventually turn into a speed boat and the Peter Gunn music can play ala the 80's classic video game...Spy Hunter.
5) Val Kilmer's best acting of his career as K.I.T.T.
6) The fact the episode begins mid mission.
7) The K.I.T.T. Cave and Transport plane are very cool indeed.

I will definitely be watching the first ep of the new Knight Rider next week. Thankfully there is one true 80's action series airing today. Hopefully David Hasselhoff can return as the original Michael Knight during one of the sweeps month.
Amazon Unbox had this for free download to my TiVo. I watched 5 minutes and was blown away by how crappy this first episode was. I never watched the movie but wow, not interesting at all.

Tonight the...Knight will...Ride at 8pm.

Tonight... television dies a little inside.

"Val Kilmer's best acting of his career as K.I.T.T."

Fleed - that's the best one yet. Justify that statement.
BLuelouboyle,Val Kilmer is well cast as K.I.T.T. as he is more humorous as a supercar, than anything else he has been in since...Top Secret.

Dr. Murder, I agree with you Tv does die a little tonight when...Lipstick Jungle airs. However, Knight Rider is a breath of fresh air to the rest of television. Finally there is an action series that is just about the hero, and his team, fighting bad guys. Sure it looks like the head of Knight Industries is a villain, and Sarah's father looks pretty bad at the end of the episode as well, since he seems to be partly responsible for what the new Michael Knight doesn't remember. It also seems that the producers are adding a secret past for the former Mike Traceur just like Logan aka Wolverine in the X-Men franchise. While the episode is not perfect, there are scenes that take a little long, like when you see the engine warm up to utilize...Turbo Boost, instead of instantly as in Glen A Larson's Knight Rider. I think after the new showrunner continues to fine tune Knight Rider, it will race to the top of the ratings race. I can't wait to see it again toKNIGHT!

Right. How the hell did that show get a second season.

And I dunno if it's just me but the souped up Mustang sticks out way too much. Especially when it's in the mode with the body kit, spoiler and hood scoop. I mean I always thought with the original KR that the Trans Am was supposed to stick out somewhat but also blend in a bit. This fucker doesn't blend in at all.
Paul755, The new K.I.T.T. does blend in, all the extras pop out when the car is in attack mode.

Torn to shreds by the press, as you'd expect (and as the show deserves).

I know people working on this show and even they don't like it.
I know there's a lot to pick apart with this travesty, but this stuck out to me for some reason. I mean, they're supposedly on a top secret military plane, and the fucking font is some low grade greeting card bullshit. What the hell are the set dressers thinking?
