The Semi Official Blu-Ray Thread - Page 3

Every time I read about 3 minute loading times or having to download firmware updates & burn them to disk or just general player FAIL, I get the urge to go home and make sweet love to my PS3 and all its easy blu-ray glory.

Seriously, how difficult would it be to add a wireless network receiver to all new blu-ray players? It would certainly make life easier for the "average person"
I don't play video games very often, but I still hate myself for not buying the PS3 instead of a stand alone player.

It's almost as if Sony had some kind of plan......
I suppose this is an appropriate enough place to toss this. Amazon has a 3 pack of the HD DVD version of the Bourne movies going for $29.99 right now. I already have them on dvd so I'm resisting the urge to snag it. Seems like a pretty good deal, uh, if you've got an HD-DVD player. I do, and I'll be happy to snag some cheap stuff as it circles the drain. Little by little the price drops seem to be coming...

Edit: I'm glad that I have a PS3 for it's Blu-Ray adaptability as well. My mom recently bought a nice HDTV and I've been sort of rambling off to her about the whole HD-DVD vs. Blu Ray thing (she listens and gets it for the most part) so she knows she's going to end up witha Blu ray player at some point. I've already been telling her that a PS3 is probably the best way to go. Mine is actually at her place right now anyway... It's just kind of weird thinking that she'll be getting one for herself someday. Ha!

It seems the HD DVD player that Wal-Mart sells is at $75 now. Consistently.

You ever see the "average person" try to powercycle a router? Pfft.

But, yeah...I use a router for my setup and it works like a charm. Off the air downloads to the PS3, Wii and HTPC. Pretty nice all around. Not toot my horn or something like that.

It would be a lot easier to power cycle a router if they actually had a power button. Also, if they didn't use a weird term like 'power cycle' for unplug/plug in the cord.

But, then how are you supposed to make the middle aged shit themselves in fright?

Ha, I tried explaining to my mid 50 year old step grandmother what progressive meant and why 3 component cables are better than one composite, and nearly wanted to jump out the window after the 4th try.

Has anybody seen Pearl Harbor playing on Blu-Ray?

Holy shit.

NOW I'm fucking seriously contemplating getting an HDTV...
Why would anyone want to watch Pearl Harbor in any form?
I'd watch it. The war stuff and efx was good. What he does best, blows things up. I'd skip over the rest of the garbage.

Yeah, definitely worth a rental in a few years after I've finished putting together a higher end sound system.

I saw Blade Runner 5 disc blu ray for like $28 bucks somewhere.

I picked it up at Amazon for $28. It's a nice little set.
i just had my first double dip. I bought 2001 and -my God- it looks glorious. I need a 1080p set ASAP.
the 1080p transfer of 2001, to my jaded vision, eclipses viewing it in 1080i.

$10 off No Country for Old Men on Blu-Ray

If you can stomach going to Wal-Mart, you should be able to get it for around $14.

I would imagine that coupon comes with the standard DVD. I got a coupon like that with POTC:AWE.

Can you just print it out?
As a despairing member of the retailer ranks, so long as that barcode is scanable (and it certainly looks that way), then its money. This is great!

Edit: Well, it says do not double, but if i was at the desk, i wouldn't care one way or another.
Holy Crap. I'm canceling my Amazon order right now. With the 10 dollar giftcard i got at Best Buy last night this will only cost me 10 bucks. Thanks! And you can use some photoshop and get rid of that pesky "Do Not Double" thing just in case.
Isn't the "do not double" disclaimer aimed at grocery stores who advertise "double coupons"?

Hmm... maybe. Don't really think of grocery stores selling Blu-rays. Still things its like "do not duplicate" though.

"Still things"??? What the hell is wrong with me. Looking around I suppose it is correct that "Do Not Double" refers to grocery stores doubling coupons. Still seems odd. It does say do no duplicate at the bottom in really small grey letters though.
If anyone uses that coupon today, let me know if it works and where.
I just read that all the bonus features are SD. I don't really ever watch them but it makes me think that a better Special Edition will be coming eventually.
Eh, coupon didn't work at Wal-Mart. However, NCFOM is only $24.99 there.
You got hosed Nordling. Over at DVDTalk's forums many have said they used it at WalMart. You need to be more persistent.
Well, shit.
I managed to use the $10 off coupon at Wal-Mart. It didn't ring up, but I played nice with the manager so she manually gave me the discount.

yes, with wal mart, just behold the power of voodoo dick. In fact it kinda works everywhere except Lesbo Conventions. It works great there.

Get the manager out, during the mean time, try to quiz the teenager in standard multiplication, possibly in spanish if you checked out in Lawn in Garden or Hardware, and then compliment the high school drop out of a manager that she has a 10th grade reading level and that their eyes match their flag of origin.
Used the coupon at Best Buy. Walked out with it for 12 bucks and change.

I Am Legend Blu-ray Steelbook $34.99:

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/pro...62&catid=24080

The cover's kinda blah.
I liked I AM LEGEND, but not enough to buy it. Blu-Ray for me will be those extra-special films. In a way, Blu-Ray will decrease my movie intake, and that's a good thing (at least according to my wife).
I too wont be buying I Am Legend.

Yeah, this is an easy Netflix, if only to see how good the disc looks, which is its major selling point.

By the way, I've mentioned this in the No Country thread, but No Country has to be the best looking HD Disc I've spun since getting both my HD-DVD and Blu-ray players. It's incredible.
The No Country coupon I'd posted wouldn't scan at Best Buy, but they punched it in manually anyways. Such a good movie.
Just had to chime in and say: Holy Shit does No Country look fantastic in HD. That is all.
Just got word form the wife that Target accepted the coupon without incident.

That is all.
I'm going to try ripping off Wal-Mart tonight. I figure if I go a little later in the evening the mouthbreathers who have to work the late shift will accept the coupon without any argument.

I might try doing the same for No Country.

Sucks is I'm only going to be in the US for 1 week, so all my blu ray catching up will have to happen in there. Blade Runner I can't wait for.
Holy crap, the picture on NO COUNTRY is amazing.

Fantastic movie, too.

I got my 5 free movies finally (took like 2 months), but I can't wait to watch Superman after a very good smallville tonight.

The first titles it's going to impact will be Walk Hard and The Sixth Day. So, expect some time next week.
Woo The Sixth Day!

I can see the XFL in all of it's glory in HI-DEF like it was meant to be seen!

Patent infringement? This is interesting. http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3167062

I would love for that article to be true.

Since the HD-DVD thread is pretty much dead, I'll post this here.

Some dumb fuck actually paid $400 for a HD-DVD copy of Bee Movie:
