Lost World might, in the final summation, be Spielberg's worst film. Hook at least had Dustin Hoffman.

Watching Lost World was one of the first times I'd ever read the book before seeing the film--and I read it again just before the release of the film.  When they hit America, I looked at my wife and said, "Well, they've completely left the book behind now so I don't know what the hell is going on."

I liked JP III better than Lost World, most definitely.  Hell, I liked the JP Ride at Universal Studios better than Lost World.

JPIII is complete shit as well in my opinion.  Better then the Lost World, sure, but it's a bad bad film.  The Raptor traps, the Spinosaurus who can smash through steel fences but can't smash through a door... the rushed climax... the child and the phone.

The one scene I do like, is the reunion scene.  With the ringing of the phone, then the slow turn back with Spino just standing there.  That was a really creepy scene, and an excellent homage to Peter Pan.

I want to punch JPIII when the asshole is standing alone on the beach at the end equipped with only a suit and a megaphone.

On December 29, all the Harry Potter movies will be removed from store shelves, and placed into a "vault", the same way Disney does their movies.

If all the Harry Potter blu-rays end up $5 on Black Friday, well that would be just swell.

Going back and watching it, it just feels kind of weird. It's like Spielberg was bored one weekend and wanted to shoot a movie, and Lost World was the first script he grabbed. 90 percent of it is shot in California's coastal redwoods (Fern Canyon is used over and over again), and the rest is in San Diego. It doesn't have any scope (and isn't really trying for it), and there's none of the wonder that JP had.

Went to walmart and got

Children of Men $8

An American Werewolf in London $8

The Hills Have Eyes(remake) $10

Holy shit it's a great time to be a film collector. Going back next week for Beetlejuice, 8 Mile, Daybreakers, all 8 bucks.

Bestbuy.com has Rounders and Good Will Hunting for $6.99 with free shipping.

Saw Walmart's "Black Friday" ad. They're selling the bare-bones Inception for $5 this year. Along with Independence Day and The Princess Bride for $5 yet again. Pretty lame, unless some of the "other titles available" end up being something good.

I hope this is the last time The Dark Knight, appears in "Black Friday" sales. It's $5 this year, if people don't jump at that price, they're never gonna.

Shit, you can't even get Burton's Batman for less than $10, and it's over 20-years-old.

Picked up Gladiator/Braveheart for $13 on Amazon.

Thing is I'm going to sell Braveheart (I understand why people like it, but not my cup of tea) for like $12.

Hmm, this seems odd. There's 2 types of Blu's it shows for the search, one for $7 and one for $25. When you get to the age verification on the checkout, though, the description on each reads:

Rounders (1998) - Widescreen Subtitle AC3 Dolby - DVD

Good Will Hunting - Widescreen AC3 Dolby - DVD

(Notice the DVD)

However, when you get to actual checking out it reads:

Rounders (1998) - Widescreen Subtitle AC3 Dolby Dts - Blu-ray Disc
Good Will Hunting - Widescreen Subtitle AC3 Dolby Dts - Blu-ray Disc

I went ahead and got 'em and will do an in-store pick-up at lunch; I'll let you know if something shifty happens.

Between birthday $ from my mom and a Best Buy gift card from a friend, I bought a Toshiba BR player today for my bedroom upstairs.  I was hoping to fix my broken/overheated/YLOD PS3 and put it upstairs, but I haven't gotten around to it yet (my new PS3 is on the main TV).  The  player also streams Netflix, Vudu, Pandora, etc., which is something I was looking for.  Only $99, and my BB card covered half that.

Walmart's selling a 65" TV for $998 for "Black Friday".

I'm not sure of the brand but, damn that's a big TV.

Well I bought both of them and had them shipped to my home. Good Will Hunting got back ordered so I still don't have it but Rounders got here friday and it was the blu ray. Anyone scared off by that go ahead.

Does anybody have T2 Skynet Edition Bluray?  When the menu screen pops up, it lists your location, your ISP and your IP address.  Goddamn, that's creepy.

Yeah mine did it the first week or so but after that it no longer does it, not sure why.

So I was begged not to sell Braveheart. Really anxious to see Gladiator though.

OH and...

Might pick this up, along with a plethora of discs soon.

Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn 25th Anniversary Edition go to wal-mart now and get it, it's only 10 bucks and it's worth it. I sold the other edition for like 3 bucks and got this one. The transfer is a HUGE step up in terms of detail, grain and color and there are a bunch of special features in HD no less. Also managed to snag Swingers for 8 bucks which I also recommend.

Got T2 and Ernest Scared Stupid (shaddup) for $5.50 and $4.50 yesterday on Amazon (and used my $5 off a Blu for pre-ordering Super 8, so technically got T2 for $.50!). Not sure if the offers are still there.

Swingers, Rounders and Hostage at Target for 5 bucks. Picked Hostage up today. Pissed I over paid for Rounders, only by 2 bucks though :)

Ronin for 8 bucks at Best Buy!

Right now Amazon is having a pretty great deal on those Digibooks from WB. They are all about 13 bucks which is pretty good considering they start out at 25 and never go below 22. Among the ones I saw were

King Kong (1933 the one I am getting)

Batman

JFK

Seven

300 complete experience

The Green Mile

Poltergeist

the exorcist

Goodfellas

I have JFK and thought that was great. Anyone else like these and which are can't miss?

Well the transfers on all of the films are pretty great except for Goodfellas and (some say) Poltergeist. I personally own Batman and Green Mile and I can recommend them both. IM not realyl into fancy packaging on movies but I must admit I dig those little books.

I scored Pulp Fiction for 3.99 on amazon today.  Also nabbed Xmen First Class (9.99) and Memento (8.49).  Great deals all around IMO.

However, the best deal was the three Bourne flicks.  I went to Target because I heard they were ramping up for Black Friday and had some decent deals.  I was walking along and saw a sign for $5 Blurays.  So I shimmied on over and saw all three Bournes.  I nabbed 'em and looked them over.  5 bucks had to be wrong, but everything seemed ok. I started to make my way to the front...but, I saw a second end-cap with all three Bourne flicks.  They were 9.99.  Fuck.  I found a price check machine and they rang up 9.99.  Damn.  So, I spent the next few minutes comparing the cases, yet they all seemed the same. I asked the media rep to check into it and he rang everything up with his "gun".  9.99.  Curses.  Then he proceeded to check everything on the shelf...Avatar, NCIS seasons...all 9.99.  Clearly pissed, he said, "the wrong header is up, but I will honor the price.  Just tell em up front."  I ventured up front (sure to have grabbed his name) and told the cashier.  She was just as excited as I was.  However, she had to run it by her manager.  The manager was a smidge displeased and made sure I knew "what a deal I was getting."

So, yeah.  Each Bourne on Blu for 5 bucks each.  Fuck. Yes.

So went over to Amazon and managed to grab the following for 55 bucks

Jurassic Park Trilogy

King Kong 1933 Digibook

Scarface Limited Edition Steelbook(Seems only to be 11.99 if you click the link on bluray.com)

So that kills my budget for black friday. Thats ok though. Seems the chain stores are dropping the ball this year anyway. The Wal-mart list sucks.

Why not grandma or aunt silvia?  Rocky is perfect for all genders and all ages.  Hell, if my bro in law got me even one of the Rocky movies, I would hump his leg. (is it obvious that I love Rocky?  all of them? yeah I'm that guy.)

Aussie Chewers may want to take note of a couple of  long-awaited blu releases this week: JB Hi-Fi have Miller's Crossing for $16 and Planet of the Apes (Original) for $20. Picked up both yesterday, so have my viewing for the weekend sorted.

Just got back from Walmart. Bought a bunch of discs. The $5 Inception blu-ray is the one with all the special features. Got X-Men: First Class for $10. The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly for $5. Got the Lord of the Rings combo packs for $5 each. Got the Mummy movies for $5 each. Got the X-Men movies for $5 each.

It was a madhouse, but I was in and out in less than a hour. Didn't even bother to go to the video games, it looked like the Battle of Pelennor Fields over that way.

got some games and regular DVDs for a great deal too, but these are the Blu-rays I scored.

Is the First Class one a steelbook? that's a bargin if it was the steelbook - gorgeous design.

Walmart was selling Scarface in the plastic case for $10. A little birdy on bluray.com told me the steelbook was also ringing up $10. So I scored the "Limited Edition" steelbook with the 1932 version and the art cards for only $10.

^  Indeed a bargin! That's going for £17.99 most places here, that's about $27/28. And that's without the 30s Scarface.

So fucking angry about The Prophecy blu-ray. Couldn't Echo Bridge get From Dusk TIll Dawn, Equilibrium and The Prophecy right? Fucking assholes.

Gotta agree was looking forward to Prophecy and Equilibrium and to hear the transfers were awful bummed me out.

The Equilibrium blu-ray I have looks absolutely fine and a good transfer, if you can get it from Canada by Alliance.

Or if you don't mind spending an insane amount and having the stupid title of Rebellion instead - the Japanese release is suppose to be amazing.

Both Canadian and us got blu-rays with the wrong aspect ratios. Although I think Canada got at least a 5.1 track. Echoe bridge only got 2.0, fucking pathetic.

It's still a good transfer - it looks fine and dandy on the screen. It's a long way from 'awful' and more importantly a lot better than the DVD. So it's better than nothing.

If you want the original aspect ratio, I think you are going to have to get the Dutch release. Why can one country do it, and not others, silly.

Actually from what I hear the Japanese version is the best. It has the correct aspect ratio, DolbyTrueHD 5.1 track and it's Region Free. Problem is it's out of print and it cost like 50 to 80 bucks last time I checked. I like the movie but holy shit. Although im about to pay 34 bucks for the original Fright Night on limited Edition blu-ray so maybe one day............

I will say though if anyone wants a better version of From Dusk TIll Dawn go for the Canadian one. The transfer is better and it's the same price.
