That's true. I just checked out the images. Did the movie ever look that bright? I doubt it.

DVD Beaver says the DVD copy that comes with The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, looks like a Sony DVD-R with the title written in black marker.

Cute.

Heh, reminds me of the Bootleg Edition of Army of Darkness that did the same thing.  And the cover looked like a paper bag.

Jeffrey Wells (an avowed hater of the 2009 BD version) posted a pretty good assessment of the new version the other day -- he loves it, and thinks it accurately preserves the gritty visual scheme of the 1973 theatrical release.

(Literally about an hour ago, he also ripped the Blu-Ray.com reviewer-guy a new one for his defense of Friedkin's indefensible original transfer.)

Traded in my Indiana Jones DVDs to Hastings today, bring on the blu-ray set!

Woah! When the fuck was this announced?

Ralph Bakshi's Wizards (35th Anniversary Edition)

I haven't seen this since I was in high school (way back in the 90s), but I remember it being equal parts weird/interesting/somewhat goofy.  Looks like they put some effort into the hardcover book and art.

Holy shit, thanks for the scoop on that. WIZARDS is a longtime favorite of mine. I saw it in the theaters (thanks to my older brother) and countless times on cable. A revisit on bluray should be awesome.

HAROLD AND MAUDE. Fuck yes.

Yeah...between 39 Steps, Harold, Shallow Grave, and Malkovich, Criterion's already made this coming summer far more wallet-rapey than I'd prefer.

Disney just announced a treasure trove of catalog titles for the fall, and luckily it includes these 3, which have been on my "most wanted list" forever:

Atlantis: The Lost Empire

Grosse Pointe Blank

Ed Wood

Blade and Blade: Trinity are coming June 19th. No word on Blade II for some reason.

I know, some speculation that Del Toro wants some involvement but I doubt that is true. Im buying Blade, fuck trinity.

Arachnophobia's also in that list. My worn out VHS tape can now breathe a sigh of relief.

In other news, Blade 1 and Blade Trinity are coming in June. No Blade II, though. Because I'm an optimist, I'm choosing to believe Guillermo held that one back for a CG spit shine and some new features. But dumber shit has happened.

EDIT: DAMMIT, BARKATTHEMOON

How cool would it be if del Toro went back and improved the CG in that flood light fight sequence that he's been giving shit for years???

Would anyone complain?

Probably.

I don't know, I just hope he doesn't replace all of their weapons with radios.

Would love to see that as a special feature just for giggles!

Also, maybe it's for the best that Blade II isn't ready yet.  It prevents them from releasing the movies only as a trilogy pack.

NOBODY HAS TO GET TRINITY!!!!

Are they going to clean up the La Magra stuff from Blade?  'Cause that CG has not aged well.

Your opinions hurt Ryan Reynolds' feelings.

I know it's been said, but the Game of Thrones Blu is the finest set I've ever seen. Beautiful image, incredible features, and the most useful dashboard implementation ever.

I think I'm the only one excited for Dick Tracy.

Ive just started tearing into this, but I'm finding very few other examples to argue with you here. The hand-drawn History segments with the cast narration are worth the money by themselves.

Being able to summon a character bio of Septa Mordane on the fly is what pushes it over for me. It's the first set in ages I expect to fully exhaust.

WB has a few good ones coming this summer.

Personally interested in

Mean Streets

Frequency

Outland

That'll be nice, but doubtful.

It's got a NEW del Toro commentary. Interesting.

Alien Anthology is only $43.99 on Amazon right now.

Yeah, what was wrong with the old one? Im not complaining but is is weird they bothered getting him involved. It wasn't like the Mimic which had a brand new directors cut and no features before the blu-ray release. I do love the commentary with Wesley Snipes and Goyer because they seem so happy..........until Trinity.

Just picked up American Psycho and Winter's Bone on Blu for $5 a pop at Wal-Mart. They also had Way of the Gun but I have it on DVD already. Otherwise they had dog farts like Still Waiting and Employee of the Month.

Yep, the "shark shot first" argument would would blight movie forums for eternity.

Spielberg finally caved on the "Shark" documentary? Consider my 25 bucks already spent.

Who am I kidding...for that new transfer, it was ALREADY spent.

Psycho is available on Amazon for ten bucks. It looks beautiful, highly recommended.

Also, the Kubrick collection is 60% off right now. Sixty bucks for nine great movies. A bargain.

Damn, and I was one of the impatient idiots who bought the Kubrick Blu-rays as they came out. Still haven't pulled the trigger on Spartacus, though. Scared off by all that negative DNR buzz. Hoping Criterion eventually gets around to it. Who am I kidding, they'll announce it the week after I cave and get the current edition.

Very curious about that Kino "early Kubrick" Blu with Fear and Desire and the short films, too.
