The Semi Official Blu-Ray Thread - Page 82

That's a great deal but the set with the book seems to pop up on Amazon for around $40 every other month.

But if I didn't have the book-set already, I'd be all over that deal.

I've only ever seen the original, and after hearing for so long about how excellent the series is, maybe this is the way to go. I'll ponder it today.

Any news on Lawrence of Arabia on Blu?  Prometheus got me itching for it.

Chronicle is on sale for $12.99 at Best Buy.

And he isn't just talking about in store. It's that price on the website and good news, they offer free shipping. So if your like me and you don't have a store near you it's a fucking steal.

And apparently on Amazon for 12.99 as well.

Little Shop of Horrors=October 9th. Digibook. Commentary. Behind the scenes. Outtakes. DIRECTOR'S CUT WITH THE ALTERNATE ENDING. Fuck yeah.

And man do I pity the poor fucks who blew $300 on that OOP DVD.

That is a pretty good cover. As much as I like Criterion and their amazing covers, I actually prefer the Region 2 special edition release cover:

I couldn't find a bigger image of that edition, but this is the edition I have. Not a fan of it enough to upgrade to Criterion though.

You were a fan enough to buy it the first time, why not ditch the shitty transfer for a newly remastered picture?

The Game was not terribly impressive on HD-DVD, either. I don't know if it was the transfer or the encode or whatever, but it desperately needed to be redone. I've yet to see a Fincher-approved transfer I didn't like, so this one should be the one...finally.

Speaking of Fincher-time, it's about time for Panic Room to get a Blu-release. But I could just see them plastering K-Stew all over the cover and saying, "Starring Twilight's Kristen Stewart!", then in tiny print with no picture:

(also starring Jodie Foster)

I had not seen the film before I bought that dvd(before blu-rays were even out in shops). And on that dvd I have the transfer is fine, especially when upscaled and certainly not shitty. I don't like it enough to upgrade it, and certainly not spending money on a criterion blu-ray of it and risking customs too. I only risk customs for films I really want from other countries.

A non-anamorphic picture looks fine when upscaled?  I'm not being difficult by the way.

^ The DVD release I have isn't non anamorphic.

Has anybody picked up the Gold Rush Criterion yet? The screenshots look great.

Amazon has a Nolan Collection going for $29.99

I doubt this set is of much interest to most of us here who probably already have most of his movies.

But still... pretty good deal!

No Prestige, no dice.

Oh shit.  I felt like I was forgetting something!

That's BOOLSHEET!!!

Must be because of it being a co-production with Touchstone.

Though... Memento wasn't WB either.

They should've swapped out Insomnia with The Prestige.

I like Insomnia. It's so un-Nolany. And I'm one of the lonely voices of dissent on Prestige. I would totally have bought that if I hadn't literally picked up Dark Knight on BluRay this morning. Ah well, that's what I get for upgrading on a whim.

In fact, that fucking sucks!

Uh huh.

It appears WB have held back almost all the copies of Blade and Blade 3 so they can release all three movies together on July 10th.

They just forgot to tell anybody, and people have been going crazy trying to find them.

Yeah apparently Amazon doesn't have the listing anymore and people are mistakenly buying the awful Canadian version. Best Buy had the pre-order up months ago and I bought it then, Wednesday my copy arrived but I guess im lucky because now it just says backordered. I guess they aren't getting new shipments until July 10th.

And speaking of July 10th, Frequency and Spawn(if your a glutton for punishment) also comes out along with Blade 2.

I've got that Blade blu-ray from Canada(Alliance) but knew at the time is was not the original ratio and so on. But it's a decent blu-ray, nothing special but certainly not awful, saying that, I did upgrade from VHS and wanted a steelbook edition(plus it's not avaliable on blu-ray here in the UK). I suppose in the future when the new blu-ray of Blade comes down in price or the UK gets an original release then I'd buy it and put it into my steelbook cover. But the Blade I have will do for now. smile.gif

Makes way more sense, really. The staggered release was kinda shitty to begin with.

If I had pre-ordered them from Columbia House, I would have them.

It appears the American release of Blade: Trinity does not contain the theatrical version, but the Australian release does.

Some Walmarts have their exclusive version of Transformers Revenge of the Fallen 2-disc Big-Screen Edition for $5. It's the one where the IMAX scenes change aspect ratio.

Oh my yes: Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection on blu-ray, 10/2

From Digital Bits:

Quote:
Universal Studios Home Entertainment has just announced the Universal Classic Monsters: The Essential Collection Blu-ray set for release on 10/2. Included in the set will be Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, Phantom of the Opera and Creature from the Black Lagoon. All films will be "digitally restored from high resolution film elements in perfect high-definition picture and perfect high-definition sound for the first time ever." The set will also include a 48-page book "featuring behind-the-scenes photographs, original posters, correspondence and much more." It appears from the press release that all of the extras these films included on DVD will be carried over, and you'll also get a never-before-seen featurette about the restoration of Dracula. On top of that, Creature from the Black Lagoon will be included in both 2D and Blu-ray 3D, recreating the film's original 3D theatrical release!

Happy Halloween, everyone! Cannot wait.

That universal monster box is spectacular. And it makes so much more sense than the monster-specific DVD boxes from the Van Helsing release. They were kind of cool and all, but it didn't take too long to discover I didn't want to watch Dracula's Daughter. I might have to grab that, depending on price.

Also dependent on price would be the Blade pack. Love the first two, but Christ do I hate Trinity. And I just know I'd end up watching it another couple times, just to give it a chance. It deserves no more chances.

Amazon and Best Buy both have Sherlock Holmes: A game of Shadows for 15 bucks. Best Buy has free shipping on all blu-rays. And im not talking about the movie only edition, im talking about the one with the special features and DVD.

For today (July 4th) only, Amazon has the complete Twilight Zone series for $179.99 .

That's a great deal, but it's still too rich for my blood.

Well good news is that Blade is only like 10 bucks on Best Buy's website. Blade 2 is like 15 so buying separately is no big deal. Blade 2 is supposed to look pretty good and have 7.1 audio and a brand new commentary with Del Toro.

Paranormal Activity 3 Blu-ray is 5 bucks at wal-mart.com.

Update on the upcoming Lawrence of Arabia Blu, from The Digital Bits:

Quote:
The first big piece of news we have today is more Rumor Mill-worthy, except that it comes directly from Sony. The studio is holding a special screening of the new 4K digital restoration of Lawrence of Arabia at the Academy on July 19th (tickets are available at the linked site). This means that sometime between now and the 19th, you can expect Sony's official Blu-ray release announcement as well. And in fact, today we have a few details on what you'll find on the new Blu-ray. Planned as either a 2-disc or 3-disc BD set (we're working to confirm which it is), the disc will include a pair of new Blu-ray exclusive options including the Peter O'Toole Revisits Lawrence of Arabia featurette and an interactive Secrets of Arabia: Picture-in-Graphics Track. It appears that the set will also include most (if not all) of the previous DVD special features, including at least 5 legacy and vintage featurettes (Making of Lawrence of ArabiaA Conversation with Steven SpeilbergMaan, Jordan: The Camels Are CastIn Search of Lawrence and Romance of Arabia - the latter newly restored for BD), original Newsreel Footage of the New York Premiere and a gallery of advertising campaign material. Note that this is a tentative list - we expect full official details soon. But it does appear that Sony is prepping an awfully nice release for high-definition. No street date or SRP yet (this should certainly be a major 3rd or 4th quarter release), but we'll bring them to you as soon as Sony makes the official announcement.

Sounds pretty incredible.

The Criterion blu ray for HAROLD AND MAUDE on is excellent.

When I had more money, I was like "Awesome! B&N Criterion sale!"

These days it's more like "Fuck. This is going to fuck up my Criterion Blu-ray sales on eBay, not that anyone was buying them anyway because everyone's poor like me."

Firstborn is coming July 31st. It's Robocop snorting coke, and beating teenage boys. Also, Robert Downey Jr. playing that same character he did in every 80s movie. Not to mention smokin hot Terri Garr goes from soccor mom to party girl in a week.

And Sarah Jessica Parker.

Dvdbeaver says it's bare-bones, with a crappy transfer. Amazon says it's $24.99. I say, move along.

Out of the blue, Columbia House offers me free shipping because it's my "anniversary".

Not sure what that's about, but I picked up Blade, Barberella, and Spawn.
