Wha? I feel like a huge dick for spending 50 on it. Who do I know who'd want that for Christmas...

Its ok.  I feel like a huge dick for not already having it in my blu ray collection.

Jesus Christ, that is... I'd pay $25 for the first movie's transfer alone, or the Alien 3 documentary... INSANE!

Hell of a deal.  I think I paid $70 for it when it first came out.

I lucked into buying it with a birthday gift card, but it was well worth 50, much less 21. The documentary on Alien 3 alone is worth 20 bucks. One of the best blu-ray collections out there.

Is there anything on the blu-ray set that's not on the Quad DVD set?  I already have Alien on blu, and the quad on DVD, but I'm not sure I need to upgrade on the whole set since Alien is pretty much the only one I watch.  I know 21 bucks is a super great deal, but I am also super broke right now, thanks to my girlfriend having a birthday right before Thanksgiving, and within Christmas shopping time.

You can just get the Alien Blu for less than 10 bucks now. Still one of the best transfers I've ever seen.

The Aliens transfer is great, the Alien 3 sound/workprint version have been improved and (I think?) there's more that's been added to the Alien 3 doc. It also includes the doc "The Alien Saga" narrated by John Hurt, which was originally its own disc.

The ALIEN 3 documentary is now the unedited version.  You can see Fincher kinda lay into Fox, now.

Amazon has the Lord of the Rings EE blu ray set for 44 bucks today.

Gah!  I decided to make the splurge on that deal!!!

Same. Been waiting for that one to drop. Still waiting for the Indiana Jones set to drop a bit.

I refuse to own Crystal Skull. I'm willing to wait out the Indy set on principle.

By the way, the Barnes & Noble sale is still going on until the 19th, I believe.

Well the indy set is 50 right now. Have heard that it might drop to 40 on black friday.

40? I'll bite at 40.

I'll probably just buy the set and never touch Crystal Skull. I bought the Alien set and never loaded Resurrection...

Anyone seeing any killer deals on the 50th anniversary Bond Blu Ray set?  $100 is my price point on that one.

I paid $165 for it. I STILL think I underpaid for the Bond blu set. It really is glorious.

I see it for $150 pretty consistently.

The thing is, I have them on dvd already, and I've spent the last month going through them (in order) with my wife.  I'm not sure when I'd have the itch to watch them all again, so buying the set now would probably be a waste of money (it would sit on my shelf, unwatched for the most part).  I just can't mentally justify dropping that kind of coin on a desk ornament.

The BOND blu set ain't a desk ornament. It's a family heirloom.

Just curious: are the individual blu rays that you can buy at Best Buy/Target/etc the same blu rays that are in the Bond set?  Do they have the same features, documentaries, etc?

I owned the Bond dvd set & all of the docs & features I saw in those 2-disc dvds were in each of the new blu discs. In fact, they've all been reframed & cleaned up for the blu set. It's actually pretty impressive.

I feel the same way about the Jurassic Park series.

The Extended LOTR blus have momentarily dropped to $43 for the Black Friday sale at Amazon.

Hmm...

It is $45 this week at Fry's. Maybe a $5 difference is worth it just so you can avoid the madness of BF-providing you have a Fry's in your area.

Final reminder: Last weekend for the Barnes & Noble sale. I managed to get Rashomon, For All Mankind, Three Colors Trilogy and Dazed and Confused during this run. Woo!

The Bond set is going to be Amazon's Gold Box Deal of the Day on Saturday Nov. 24.

The Alien Anthology bluray set is on sale next week at Best Buy for $19.99.

I can't imagine that it will ever get any cheaper than that.

Warner Archive Goes BLU Starting with GYPSY & DEATHTRAP Nov. 20 (with FEARLESS and HUDSUCKER PROXY coming soon)!!!

DEATHTRAP is seriously underrated. (Superman vs Alfred -ha)

The sale was actually extended through the 26th, for all those interested. Means that Heaven's Gate (to be released Tuesday) will also be part of the sale.

Best Buy has the first two seasons of Breaking Bad as "Buy one, get one free" for $11.99.

They also have the 4 disc/3D version of Prometheus for $14.99.

And as always, BB offers free shipping for all of their items.*

*I don't mean to sound like a shill, but Best Buy is REALLY trying to take it to Amazon.

Still overpriced.

Personally I've been eyeing this Hitchock Masterpiece Collection Blu-ray set. It is listed for $169 at Costco right now. Any news on how good the transfers are?

if it doesn't get within the $100 range I might have to force myself to wait till next year.

The quality is pretty variable. The bigger titles (vertigo, rear window, psycho) look great, but it is pretty clear universal cheaped out on some of the lesser titles (family plot being the most egregious offense).

As for the price, I would highly reccommend ordering it from the uk, where its only about 100-110. North by northwest is not included (universal liscensed it from wb for th use release, but did not get international rights), but that movie is readily available anyway.

I own the Masterpiece collection on DVD, so I'm hesitant to buy the whole thing again. However, I'd love to have Rear Window and Vertigo on Blu. I'm hoping they'll sell them individually starting next year.

Yeah, I also own the Masterpiece Collection on DVD (in that dust loving felt box) and I already own Psycho and North by Northwest on Blu-Ray.  I wish I could just buy Vertigo and Rear Window on Blu-Ray.  The Collection is $150 on Amazon.

What's the story about the Birds on Blu?

Wow, it was $209 when I put that link up yesterday.

Ack, the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Ultimate Edition came out and I had no idea.....might have to break out the credit card for that.

There's a huge sentimental thing my family has with Bond around the holidays, as we we used to do marathons of all the VHS tapes back in the day.

So picked up the Bond 50 set. I do have some of them on blu already, but since I'm going to give the Bond 50 set to my dad, it kind of offsets.

Quick! Amazon's got the Bond blu set up for $129!

I love how Game of Thrones is still $45.00. That set is worth every penny though, even without the George.

Best Buy has had it at that price since Sunday.

I'm holding out for $100.

Scooped up the LOTR:EE Blu set from Amazon for $40. I'm not the franchise's biggest fan, but, you know...$40. Hope to get The Prisoner complete series on Blu tomorrow for $22.

Me too :)

After seeing so many new big titles I bought like a month ago now on super duper sale, I'm thinking of never buying blu-rays on release day again.

Yeah, I just yelled at the still-in-the-wrapper Jaws and ET Blu Rays that are on my shelf, having cost me 2x what they are now. They are such assholes.

+1.  We must develop patience for the months of September and October.
