Amazing.  However, will it get any treatment it deserves?  I am afraid this may get dumped with some shitty transfer.

Probably not.  It looks like it's just a routine catalog release.  Probably nothing in the way of significant special features.  I'm just hoping for a good transfer at this point.

The people on the blu-ray.com forums seem to be a bit concerned about Disney's spotty record when it comes to live-action releases like this as well as Michael Mann's tendency to revisit his films for the worse.

That cover is FANTASTIC.

Also coming out in March: Powell and Pressburger's The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp, which I can't wait to see in HD.

Also Chaplin's Monsieur Verdoux, A Man Escaped, The Blob, and Fritz Lang's Ministry of Fear. March is a goodie.

3/12

Please clean-up and color-correct that release!

Based on the treatment of Dick Tracy and Rocketeer we'll be lucky if the movie is on there.

That does not bode well for THE INSIDER.

Long story short, Amazon had Star Wars The Complete Saga for $69.99 a while back. I was clicking through on my cart to see how much it would be including shipping. Well, I clicked enough the order accidently went through. Don't play around with your Amazon cart until you've had at least four cups of coffee. redface.gif

So to hell with it. I finally own the Star Wars blu-ray set.

Send that shit back.

Yeah, send it back, albeit with a possible restocking charge, or with the return shipment cost. I'm not so schooled on their policy in matters such as these.

You might also just try and catch them before they ship it and cancel the order. Maybe they'll understand that it was an honest mistake.

Nah, I'll keep them. I hadn't planned on buying them right at that moment, but I would have eventually got them. I doubt they'll ever go below much below $69.99 anyway. If they do, they'll probably release a bare bones set without the special features discs.

You always get me Amazon! Damn you! Well if I can sell my DVD masterpiece collection and my blu-rays of Psycho and North by Northwest maybe I can end up spending under 100.

It's a Gold Box, so act now!  Act now!

Oh I did. Just after purchase plotting.
The Rocky Undisputed Collection bluray is 20 bucks on Amazon (it's out of stock so you have to look at the additional options to find it). Can't say I've even seen Rocky 2-5 all the way through, but couldn't resist this deal.

I'm so poor now. Damn holiday sales.

Got the Indy and Potter 7/8 UCE for Christmas. Now I have to find someone to bribe in order to take my Crystal Skull single blu off my hands (yes, I have now owned the movie twice... oy.)

I also own it separately.  I can't bring myself to get rid of it because the special features from the single aren't in the box set, even though I know I'll never watch them.

You know what you could do, Mike? Buy mine cheap. Then you could watch the special features on my disc, while still holding true to your declaration of never watching them on yours.

Hmmm.... no.

So, for Christmas, I have amassed the Coen Bros 4disc set (plus No Country), the Planet of the Apes 5disc, the Tarantino 10disc, Moonrise Kingdom, and TDKR. All on Blu. I'm kind of bewildered as to what to do. Family of movie nuts!

Can you point out which ones I have to blow to get that same type of treatment?

Got a few blus - ET, Indy, Lawrence of Arabia, Drive, Shutter Island, Finding Nemo and a few more.

With Indy - I have a question.  Does anyone else's Raiders lose focus from time to time?  Mine does it a ton - especially in the beginning.  Overall, the sound is great, but I am disappointed with the picture of the first flick.  Detail is alright, but the colors are a bit muted, the grain is insane and it just doesn't look much better than upscaled DVD.

Oh, and Lawrence of Arabia is ephing GORGEOUS.

Agreed on LAWRENCE OF ARABIA.  It's absolutely stunning on blu ray.

The Finding Nemo blu ray is also gorgeous, not surprisingly.

Looks like Rolling Thunder is finally getting a proper US release.

Vengeance is coming on April 9th!!

Picked this up over the weekend:

Looks like I'll be on a Hitch binge the next couple of weeks. So far I've watched Shadow of a Doubt, which is nice and clear but naturally limited by the age of the film, and Rear Window which has a stunning transfer. Every last detail of that amazing set jumps out at you. My budget wasn't really healthy enough to splash out A$100 on a box set, but Considering it works out to less than $10 a film it was a total bargain.

I don't have the Blu Ray, but I saw the restored version that they used for the Blu Ray transfer last Summer and it did indeed noticeably lose focus from time to time. Very strange.

And I agree with your assessment of the picture - We saw it IMAX style, and it really didn't look much better than my DVD copy in terms of detail.

Stuart Gordon's Castle Freak is coming to blu-ray on Jan 14th from the UK distributor 88 Films. Good news is the disc will be region free. It's got the original 1:85:1 remastered transfer and DTS-HD Master 5.1 soundtrack as well.

Any thoughts on Legend (1985) for $8? Generally speaking I like Scott, Cruise and fantasy, but I must admit that I am not overly familiar with this particular film.

It's a pretty fruity flick. A rare example of decently budgeted Hollywood fantasy before LotR came along.

It's worth seeing as a curiosity. Tim Curry makes a great devil, and if you ever had a crush on Mia Sara it's worth your time.

It's fantastic from a production design standpoint, but it's a tedious film to watch.  Mia Sara is gorgeous and Tim Curry is a scream as Darkness, but Tom Cruise is pretty much all thumbs as he bounds about the set.

The Universal Monster blu-ray set is on sale on Amazon for $80, which is still considerably more than the UK region-free version apparently.

Aaaaaaand it's pushed back again to mid April.

I just did a comparison check between the two: Ordering the region-free set from Amazon UK to the states is still only $42 total, with shipping.

I saw a review that said there's something weird with the menus if you play the UK discs on a US player.  Anyone know?  I have a PS3.  Also do these have all the sequels that the DVD sets had?

Edit: Ordered it off Amazon UK.  Man Brits really ruin covers with your stupid rating icons.  Hopefully my credit card company doesn't charge me for a UK charge.  If not you can't beat that $42.

Fuck, we've been doing some  renovation bullshit at my house, and I noticed by unopened copies of the Godfather Trilogy and Apocalypse Now are missing from my unwatched drawer. I'm probably going to have to write them off, because there's no telling where the fuck they are. I'm probably overreacting, but that just ruined my goddamn day.

Best Buy is doing their Upgrade and Save program again.  Bring in a DVD in its original packaging and get a $5 coupon that you can use towards any Blu $9.99 and above.  Offer is going on from now until February 2nd.

Speaking of Best Buy.  If anyone is looking to spend any Christmas money on the Avengers on blu, don't come to northern Colorado.  Contrary to their website, not one of the 10 stores I have been to have one copy.  Not one.

Really? Damn.. The Best Buys near me always seem to stock on on hit movies.  I saw about 200 copies of the Amazing Spiderman just hanging out the other day.  Then again, I wonder if they just order one huge order and just let it be.

Oh they had many copies of Spiderman.  They had even more of TDKR.  A buddy bought me TDKR as a gag gift (knowing I dislike it).  It was his version of an elaborate gift card.  I tried to return it - which was a disaster all unto itself... I wanted Avengers instead.  I have had to order, the biggest movie of 2012, on the website because the stores don't carry it.  So bizarre.

The company just did a pull for a massive send back on the DVD stock to clean up after the holidays. The shelves in most of the stores are pretty bare and stock counts might not be accurate because the stuff might be in the back packed up.

Amazon's deal of the day is the GODFATHER trilogy for $17.99 on blu ray.  Kinda hard to wrong with that.
