MARS VOLTA- Bedlam in Goliath

Okay, this band always gets extreme reactions, but keep it civilized people.

Myself, I was a big fan of the first album, 2nd & 3rd one didn't do it for me, although I still could appreciate the musical craft. Live shows remained a must-see though.

Been listening to the new one for a few days now, and it's definitely on the level of the first one for me. Has a chance to grow towards being my favourite MV album so far. Back to catchy songs with furious riffs, with the jazzrock noodling they explored on the previous two nicely incorporated in the songs. The musical trickery no longer gets in the way of the catchiness. It's still dense & overwhelming as fuck, but not in a tiring way methinks.

If you're a prog-hater, this one won't pull you over to the other side. But the preposterous background story they concocted for the album (check the website) and the hilarious webclips they made for 3 songs already (check youtube) make me suspect they're a bit more tongue in cheek then many give them credit for.

Count in me in with the Volta lovers.

I actually really dig Frances and Amputechture, but De-Loused is essentially my favorite album of all time, nothing they've done has even come close.

So far everything I've heard off Bedlam is phenomenal, but I'm waiting for my copy to arrive before I check out the whole album.

Can't wait for this one. Scab Dates is my favorite actually, with De-Loused coming in second.

This is a great album. Not their best - but tons better and more focused than Amputechture. Energetic and crazy from start to finish, no filler. Some strange vocal effects, but it's all part of their progression. Their new drummer is less rock, more crazy fucking grooves and massive beautiful overplaying. A perfect replacement.

Great album.

Great album.
The drumming is outta control, hard-hitting, thump thumpa, YEAH!
I listened to this for the first time today, twice, in my car - and right now this stands as my fave MV release yet. Probably the funk.

Can't wait to get this sucka.

I've heard about half. The best compliment I can give it after first listen is that it actually sounds like music. I'm not a big fan of this weird Billy Corgan-ish whine that's infected Cedric's voice in spots, but otherwise, I'm liking it.

This is good to hear. I loved De-Loused, thought Frances was really good, but had to skip through a bunch of white noise to get to the good stuff. Amputecture cut the white noise, which was a plus, but replaced it with what I thought was a bunch of pretentious musical masturbation. I figured that this new one would probably be even worse, but from what I'm hearing, I'll have to check it out now.

Holy fuck this album is super! This is one of the rare cases where the almost 10 minute long song is my favorite, and gets more play than any other. I can't stop listening to this fucker.
