"Runnin' With The Devil" Vocal Track Only

Don't know what the point is, but it's interesting hearing DLR cut the vocal for the song. If you listen closely, you can hear the song track playing while he's singing to it.

So it's an acapella? Nothing new. How do you think people do Mash-Ups?

It's the track from when DLR recorded it for the album itself. Here's the info from the accompanying post:

Very recently, the wife and I were giving a Mancunian guitarist a ride to a downtown airport hotel after he had just played the big arena north of Atlanta. When he saw that Van Halen were scheduled to play at the same venue in February, he proceeded to tell a very funny story about when he met Van Halen in the year after Diamond Dave was kicked out of the band in 1986. Names and places to this story are unimportant (if I were telling the story in person, they obviously would though) but he tells of Sammy Hagar being overly friendly, Eddie Van Halen looking like a smiling retard the entire time on stage and Alex being the worst drummer he'd ever seen. Utter hilarity.

Then again, if Van Halen just kept with what worked, the "dark years" (aka "Anything With Sammy") would never have happened. Sure, they had number one songs and albums, but dammit, Dave was the soul of the band! The zen-cum-slapstick comedian of the group! I defy you to prove me otherwise.

It's "David Lee Roth" at all times unless you ARE in fact David Lee Roth in which case you may refer to yourself as "Diamond Dave." Enough with the "DLR" nonsense. Show some respect.

It's very rare for people to get a copy of such a clean vocal track.
Mash ups are done in people's basements in a very sloppy way, this is the actual studio track with zero effects or reverb.
It's also unique because it's such a hugely famous song. I wonder how they got ahold of this.

The music in the background is bleed from Diamond Dave's headphones.

That was really cool to hear. Thanks for sharing the link.

Imagine if the recording industry had used formats like SACD and DVD-Audio to include bonus features like listenable, separate audio tracks for songs. The ability to easily listen to Neil Peart's track on "Camera Eye" or just the Edge's tracks from "The Joshua Tree" would be something of a novelty, but it would be a tasty novelty.

I'd pay between $5-$7 more for a high fidelity CD with bonus features (commentary by the artist?) over an mp3 version of the album. But once again the RIAA has outsmarted me. Curses!

His improvisational efforts are ... unique to say the least.

And this only proves that while he may not have been the strongest singer in the world, charisma goes a hell of a long way when you're the frontman.

I know nothing about music, but I'm frankly amazed at how much of the song doesn't require his participation.

Well, he's on the chorus with Michael Anthony, that's just not on this track.

Speaking of, I understand that the Navy uses all of Michael Anthony's separate audio tracks to beach whales.

Was Dave dissing himself when he referred to his solo group in its later days as the DLR band?

If I knew how to make my own ringtones I'd certainly make a ringtone out of those first few seconds. Gold!

As much as I love classic Van Halen, this really proves the argument that Dave can't sing for shit. The guy puts on a hell of a show, though.
