AP-In an open letter to syndicated Hollywood newsmagazine "Entertainment Tonight", the killer "Zodiac" has condemned this year's Acadmey Award nominations. "Zodiac", long thought deceased, came out of hiding to voice his displeasure that the film, ZODIAC, did not get one single nomination.
The film-directed by David Fincher and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo-is a sprawling decades spanning police procedural epic that shows how Zodiac's grisly killings effected San Francisco's police force, and the city's leading newspaper-The San Francisco Gazette.
ZODIAC is considered to be David Fincher's best reviewed film, and was among many critic's top 10 lists this year despite being written down as a box office disappointment. This brought the elusive serial killer out of hiding.
Zodiac, believed to be behind as many as 30+ murders during the late 60s-mid 70s, said in his trademark typo-laden letter:
"This is the Zodiac speaking, and my film is fucking amazing. Unfortunately, not any of the ingrates that vote for the Acadmey Awards would know, or judging from the box office recepits, no one else either. This is unacceptable. Even though my film goes to great lengths to document my rain of terror, I do not have a personal biaz towards it. [David]Fincher's meticioulous attention to detail is evident. That opening shot of San Francisco? All of that was CGI! That shot alone cements Fincher's legacy in cinema history. In past films of Fincher's... it seemed like he paid too much attention into production design and style-usually negating narrative and performance. Not in my film. As maverick reporter Paul Avery, Robert Downey Jr. gives a charasmatic performance that's just pure dynamite! Jake Gyllenthaal's performance completely conveys the hopelessness of chasing a ghost. Trust me, Jake's got game! Each of these actors deserve, at least, to be nominated. As well as awards going for production design, editing, Fincher's tour-de-force direction, and Best Picture.
You know NORBIT-FUCKING NORBIT- has a nomination for best make-up? This is completely egregious. If these nominations aren't amended ASAP, I will resume my hunt for the most dangerous game of all: MAN."
At press time, its unclear if the Zodiac wants to either firebomb a daycare or go on a sniper spree on San Franciso's upcoming Special Olympics event.
The special edition of ZODIAC was just released last month. SFPD highly encourages Oscar voters to pick it up.
Retired Detective Dave Tosci: "Yes, it would behoove the Acadmey greatly if they picked up the SE screener of ZODIAC. It really is something to marvel at. I may think that the Zodiac Killer is a subhuman piece of shit, but he's 100% correct that ZODIAC is a virtuoso accounting of events of the killings. It isn't your typical serial killer film, it owes more to Alan Pakula's 70s films such as ALL THE PRESIDENT'S MEN and the PARALLAX VIEW."
Added Tosci: "I'm not just saying this because Mark Ruffalo gave a kick ass performance of me, by the way. I'm saying this because I don't want any 'tards clipped off. That would be some grueling paperwork for my boys in blue."
